What draft picks ?.
The Blues first pick this year is #28 which will probably blow out to #40 by the time the Father-Son and Academies are done raping the draft.
The year after we are then into Tassie’s turn to start plundering.
Their only choice is to keep doubling down for the next three years in the hope of jagging a flag.
Then they need to swap players for picks, or swap future picks. It was more of a theoretical needs exercise than an actual trade vision (i.e how they could get said players) though.
"Reordering" the draft works as a phrase, by the way.
My point being that they don’t actually have a lot to play with.
Poor draft picks in three horribly compromised drafts and who do they offload of any value without weakening the current team ?.
Pittonet, Acres, Williams, McGovern might be of interest to others but pretty low value.
Cerra they can probably cover.
Fantasia and Haynes surely don’t play next year so they also need to cover them.
There's free agency and mid-season draft as well. Or at the next draft they could try and get Tim Kelly, Tom Stewart, Sam Menegola mature age types that can contribute this window.
Either way, they need to try something. Their list needs some work.

Way too many list cloggers.
That's why we grabbed Jagga this year. Before all the compromised drafts get even worse.
We also have Cody Walker in the next few years so that's a potential top 10 as a FS.
We need to dump the current list management team, replace then with competent people and then start dumping all the wage thieves we currently have on terrible contracts.

List management a nightmare and outdated - Harry McKay overpaid, Adam Saad over paid, Zac Williams over paid, Adam Cerra over paid, Mitch McGovern over paid, the list goes on.
Blues best chance was 22-23 but the game is past them and their best players dont suit the new fast paced game and Vossy isn't a coach that can teach them to play the way they need to.
Missing out on Houston will go down as one of the worst things to happen to the blues this decade I am sure of it.
Injuries to Curnow, Walsh, Docherty, Martin and others at important times closed their window. If I was the blues I would genuinely start the rebuild now before Tassy comes in or they are done for a decade.
With the ascendent young hawks already better than Carlton it is really hard to see where Carlton can go from here. No success from what was a great list, no money in the cap to get better and a new team coming in to stifle any rebuild.
I could be wrong, hope I am not, but with 2 wins in their last 10 against bottom feeder clubs its hard to see the upside for the blues. McKay may well be one of the worst coleman medal winners ever and they always play better without him.
Edit: TDK would be crazy not to leave this club for a payrise and a better chance to win, not to mention the horrible fan base that constantly abuse their players.

I think its too late for a club like them to go rebuild before Tassie. There looks to be 2 drafts left (ignoring any 17 year olds that might get pulled out early) so you have to go hard now to get in all the picks immediately. I think Carlton have already traded out of the start of this years draft so I think they have to go all in on the now.
Whether thats more trades for existing players or free agents to fix the list issues I dont know. But I feel its too late for a draft rebuild for clubs that arent already set up for it now like Richmond

I think Richmond planned their rebuild well.
I mean they were prepared. When Gold coast got most of the 1st rounders in 2010, Richmond nailed most of their picks well from 2006-2009. Riewoldt, Cotchin and Martin were nailed in the 1st Round . Alex Rance was an early 2nd rounder in 2007.
Richmond is ahead of the curve again... If Tassie coming in the comp in 2027, Tassie will get a fair amount of early picks in 2026. Or if Tassie is coming to the AFL in 2028, then the 2027 early picks will be for Tassie.
Either way, Richmond will have lots of kids from 2023-2025 drafts.
Once Tassie get the picks, I assume Richmond will be on the way up and make finals in 2028-30.
Miss out on finals in 2031, then have a 4 year flag window in 2032-35.

I can't imagine a world where Newcombe doesn't get the 3, so if Cripps outvotes him it will be pretty controversial.

We've already got out first round selections for next year - jagga Smith
Throw in Cody Walker , Harry Dean as father/son selections, on top of whatever trades and draft selections, albeit 2nd/3rd pick, I'm sure they have already started the rebuild with an eye to the future

Father sons are a lucky way to skip the rebuild process a little. Good timing if they can come soon and cheap
Cody walker is tipped to be a top 3 selection, Harry Dean is rated highly as well. The timing will be good
They need to trade McKay. Said it two years ago and got howled down, but it was on the basis their list had so many holes they needed to address and 2 x primary KPF was overkill.
They’ll get massive overs for McKay, and they can use his $1m / year to acquire a gun and can take the top-10 draft pick you’d get to the draft.
McKay cannot kick for goal and is a liability when the ball hits the deck. He’s the player they can easily cover and would get overs in a trade.
They aren’t winning a flag with 1 x gun KPF and zero x gun small-medium forwards. They’ve got 2-3 years to take action before Cripps is over the hill.
