we must must must lobby for a priority pick to trade in a very good mature player.
... which, if you record the Lions results between 2012 and round 9 2018, they won 36 games of football in 7 seasons (before going on to win 5 games for the season, finishing with 41 wins across 7 seasons).

Remind me again a) how much positive attention their rebuild is getting now, and b) how much negative attention they got over that patch, hmm?

How starved of news are the media to rely on reddit to make a headline on the front page of the Age website?

Still, they do kind of make the case for a PP for us, if they still existed.

It's not that hard to avoid drinking if you know you shouldn't be. I'm going to Hawaii next week, normally I'd be drinking lots of cocktails on the beach but I know I can't drink at the moment so I won't.
stupid hawaii........

The way Andy Maher was talking on the Carlton Show, he obviously has a strong inkling or mail about Scott coming next year... might just be me reading between the lines but thats what I came away with.
Not always certain Andy's mail is as good as we think it is.

Have a great time MEB, heading over there myself on the 9th. Searching for a good sports bar to watch our game v the Doggies.
There's a good sports bar in Waikiki. Can't recall the name but its well known. And its big. I watched the 2010 GF replay in there.

I love them, but the boys on the Carlton Show might need a break.

Andy Maher insinuating that the monied interests of the club are pulling the levers, but NOT ONE EXAMPLE of it.

Then he argues for the Board to interview and appoint the next coach, and not a sub-committee with the support of a recruitment specialist. I don't get it. Are we going old school, or are we following the practice that the best clubs have?

The Carlton Show boys are giving into the hysteria.

If you're reading this boys, we need your show to be the one that sits above the noise. Doesn't mean you have to be relentlessly positive, but give the club credit where credit is due, and give us more analysis.

I realise it's difficult to have a weekly Carlton Show, when there's two simple realities:

1. The 50-100 games we need to get into our players before they're properly competitive is still 50-100 games. No amount of wishing can change that.

2. We've cut our list deeper and harder than any club in the history of the game. Cut the coach some slack.
Hear, hear. Spot on.

Foxtel really smashing Thomas, saying he has given up and shouldn't play again this year or at least make him stay in the VFL for a long time to prove he cares.

What BS he is one of the players I have watch this year trying his guts out on field. Yes he made a mistake but why do people want to crucify him

So that the story - after he's banned - becomes "Pressure grows on Carlton to recall banned Thomas", accompanied by Gerards Whately and Healy's "He had a few beers, surely that's no reason to ban a star of the game! Lunacy to drop one of their leaders when they're so bereft of on field leadership! Political correctness gone mad!" whilst Australians wide nod their heads whilst chuckling into their 7:30pm dinner and turning over to MKR.

Unsubtle as.

It's all just noise at this point, I don't know why people care what some external media "personalities" think about the team we support.
Just tune it out, honestly you'll be better for it.

Have to say that call by Andy about doing away with specialist committees to pick the coach etc was very hard to understand. He started by saying the board shouldn't pay some outside consulting group heaps of cash to make recommendations and that's a reasonable position to have. But why would creating a committee of trusted people to do the interviews, talk to people and make a decision be a bad thing? Would have thought that putting it on the board to make decisions would be playing into those 'behind the scenes money men' he was lambasting beforehand. Doesn't make sense to me.

Shan I took that part to mean that the pool of potential candidates is small and should be easily identified - and that the board (or sub section of) should be capable of identifying the profile and traits the team needs, select accordingly, and not drop 250k (his amount IIRC) on a talent identification company.

FWIW I agree with him - It seems to me the primary function of these things (talent firms) is to remove/reduce accountability of the board for the outcome of the hire.

Edit: just realised I’m probably not answering your specific question/observation in the slightest!

Think he's insinuating 1 person had too much control over the committee.

2. We've cut our list deeper and harder than any club in the history of the game. Cut the coach some slack.

The board and everyone at the club must have known that if this was the course, then the blowback that would come. If that’s true then the club has no choice but to stick fat for another 2 years.

If the board didn’t know they should remove themselves and sack everyone at the club on the way out. Total gutting.

They're fair points you make.

I actually thought it was refreshing to hear the passion in what they were saying.

I enjoyed the candid debate and conversation. At least we know other people are clearly hurting from our current situation and are desperate for success.

Definitely rather listen to an open, brutal and honest podcast than a wishful thinking and head in the sand podcast.

I suppose if you frame that discussion with that in mind it would make sense. Didn't pick up on that and it made it all seem a bit incoherent.
Only reason I think it may be that is he said briefly that if he didn't reign himself in he'd get into trouble/ cut off. He clearly knows something, either about how it was done last time or internals at the club atm and it's adding to the extra emotion in his message.

That part I was reading into a bit of board representation and what value some were adding to the club, and a bit of influence over board members by individuals outside the formal structure of the club.

I didn’t agree with it all but it was a great listen.
