They're actually about to be rewarded with their 3rd spoon since the turn of the century. Second only to Carlton on that metric.

3 - 3 = 0.
The abacus strikes again

Emergency: completely non football related but a call to my fellow people here: I have had a scumbag in my hotel in Canada who has stolen my passport. Our flights back to Australia are tomorrow.

Has anyone ever been through this and can give me guidance on what to do asap?? I am a frequent Flyer but this has never ever happened before.

any advice will be much appreciated to help out.

Bloody Carlton supporter, I bet.

In all seriousness, I imagine seeking consular assistance is probably first port of call.

Left it in the bag all week, didn’t touch it or take it out. Don’t drink alcohol so didn’t touch it all week. I only go out with my other bag which I carried with me for research I am conducting at the research aviation center.

Went to check tonight as I checkout tomorrow and it’s gone… bloody Hilton hotel also.

Weird place to put out the bat signal…

Have not been through it but I suggest you call the Aussie consul over there, perhaps get in touch with the airline too. Get a police report if you have travel insurance and intend to claim flight delays due to the theft.

i just had this forum up, not apart of any other forums, and it is filled with fellow aussies.

honestly just hoping someone else might know exactly what to do, because the police here weren’t sure and the embassy doesn’t open until 8am

Not to mention the collective intelligence you've observed in this thread.

Why would you go anywhere else for advice on anything?

ChatGPT to the rescue, it got the countries backwards but steps are correct:

If your passport is stolen 24 hours before an international flight from Australia to Canada, here’s what you should do:

### 1. Report the Theft Immediately
- Police Report: File a report with the local police to document the theft. You'll need this report when applying for a replacement passport or emergency travel document.

### 2. Contact the Australian Passport Office
- Urgent Assistance: Contact the Australian Passport Information Service (APIS) at 131 232 (within Australia) or your nearest Australian embassy or consulate. Inform them about the theft and your urgent travel plans.
- Emergency Passport: Request an emergency passport, which is usually processed quickly for situations like this. An emergency passport might not be valid for long-term use, but it will enable you to travel to Canada.

### 3. Visit the Nearest Passport Office or Embassy
- In-person Application: If time allows, visit the nearest passport office or embassy as early as possible. Bring any available identification and the police report. The staff can expedite the process due to the urgent nature of your situation.

### 4. Inform Your Airline
- Flight Rescheduling: Notify your airline about the situation. Some airlines might allow you to reschedule your flight with minimal penalties due to the circumstances.

### 5. Prepare for Delays
- Travel Plan Adjustments: Given the tight timeline, be prepared for potential delays in your travel plans. If you can't obtain a new passport in time, you may need to reschedule your flight for a later date.

### 6. Check Entry Requirements for Canada
- Temporary Travel Documents: If issued an emergency passport or temporary travel document, verify that it will be accepted for entry into Canada. Contact the Canadian embassy or consult official resources to confirm.

### 7. Keep Copies of Documents
- Backup Copies: Always keep copies of your passport, visa, and other important documents in a secure place (digitally and physically). This can help in such emergencies.

### Key Contacts:
  • Australian Passport Information Service (APIS): 131 232 (within Australia)
  • Emergency Contact: For after-hours assistance, contact the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) on +61 2 6261 3305.

Act quickly, and keep in close communication with relevant authorities to ensure the fastest possible resolution.

It's happened to me twice, in two different countries! Both times they stole it my rental car, including my flight tickets. First time in Israel, the second time it happened in Italy. I was lucky in Italy because my cousin was president of a local police station, so I cut through all the red tape. In Israel was a bit more lengthy.

The main thing is you still have your airline tickets? Any other ID like your driver's licence? Contact your airline ASAP they're usually the most helpful (provided they're a good airline and you didn't go with a cheap one). Go get your emergency passport but if you can't I don't think they can legally refuse your entry at the Australian Border if your an Australian Citizen, regardless of whether you have a passport (I don't care what chat GPT says).

Issue would be boarding the flight without a passport rather than being refused entry to Australia.

For my act of kindness in pointing out your oversight, I suggest you take a dig at Carlton in return.

Where's our outspoken friend Arr0w been in recent times?
He's busy attending counselling sessions with Worm4.
After the Hawthorn game Worm developed an uncontrollable tick in his left eye and started sucking his thumb again like at the end of 2022. Wishing him all the best.

Etihad told me they would let me board if I couldn't get an emergency passport in time. The embassys or consulates aren't always open. Lucky I never had to find out.
