AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
i totally agreeI seem to recall that some time around about August last year, there was a thread posted suggesting that Carlton had now moved past St. Kilda. That Carlton were on the way up, and the Saints on the way down.
Carlton are on the way up, although they have a way to go yet. St. Kilda are much harder that Carlton, however, have a more consistent midfield, and should smash Carlton at both ends of the ground. Carlton will find it very hard to score against St. Kilda. We've seen that against a team like WCE they can score freely, but against a team like Adelaide, who have a tight defence, they are vulnerable. As a previous poster said, if Adelaide held them goaless for a half, imagine what the super-tight Saints will do to them. We also saw what Hawthorn's forward line did to the likes of Thornton - well the Saints' forward line is in better form than ours. Roo and Kosi should have a field-day.
Carlton are coming, yes, they won't be a genuine threat this year though. I really can't see them beating the Saints any time soon, especially given that they haven't beaten them for quite some time, and the current Saints team is the best I've ever seen them put on the park.
And which do you reckon he cares more about Jeff? Beating St Kilda or making the 8?
I trust your answer will be suitably condescending
Damn straight. You've had enough handouts, that's all you're getting from me.From personal experience, I'd say you'll be lucky to even get condescension Bourbons...
when in 2156??????????If Carlton really are coming, they have to make a statement and no better statement then to beat the Saints in Rd 12 on a Friday night.
At the moment there are only three teams; Geelong, Hawthorn and St.Kilda.
If Carlton can knock off the Saints, which i think they can..... then they really are coming!
Carlton by 8 pts
Getting under my skin?
LOL, who started trolling who in this thread?
St Klda? Can't even remember the last time Carlton beat us, i think i was in primary school.
wouldnt be suprised if carlton flogged st kilda. but i wouldnt be suprised if st kilda beat them by 60+
what about the last time St Kilda won a premiership? remember that?
Will obviously be an extremely tough assignment but I think we might be playing them at the perfect opportunity.
Their form the last month has been below what it was earlier in the season. They beat the Lions and Bombers by less than three goals. Both Melbourne and North challenged the Saints at least briefly and if North hadn't been decimated by injury, they might have gotten closer than what they did.
Carlton is a much better side than both North and Melbourne and if they let us get out a big lead early, it won't be easy holding us back.
With the midseason break just around the corner and the Geelong game coming ever closer, the Saints mightn't be focused 100% on the job at hand. Their tackling intensity has definitely fallen away - hard to maintain it over a course of a season.
Carlton on the other hand, will be highly anticipating this game. We'll go in considerably underdogs and for good reason but I imagine the boys would be rearing to go. Haven't beaten the Saints in yonks and a win this Friday will announce once and for all that we've arrived. Huge test for us and hopefully we'll lift.
Not favourites by any means but we're not without a chance. Should be a ripper.
And blues form in the last month? please be balanced in your assessment.
And for the record the tackles were saints 67 blues 44 this round.

We've won 3 of our last 4, but they were good performances rather than great performances. Our tackle numbers were down last night because for the first 3 quarters of the game, we mostly controlled the ball, but didn't convert our opportunities, hence why Brisbane were still an outside chance of winning at three quarter time.
For Carlton to beat St Kilda on Friday night, everything would need to fall into place for us. Our kicking for goal would have to be a lot better than last night & we would have to be applying pressure all over the ground. It would be a massive boost for our confidence to win this game, but the Saints are playing incredibly disciplined football.
1st v 4th. You would have to go back to the early '70s to find both of these teams in the Top 4 at the same time at this stage of the season.
We've won 3 of 4. I'm not suggesting we'll be favourites in the game but I'll be shocked if the Saints go through the season undefeated. While the Geelong game is an obvious one, I can't say I'm disappointed with playing them the week before the bye when they've been tapering off.
Carlton's gameplan doesn't revolve around high tackling - St Kilda's does. Our match was relatively free flowing compared to the scrap that North made it for a fair portion of the game.
