Carlton will beat St.Klda

Brisbane?

The first time Jono Brown can remember having 2 games in Melbourne 6 days apart and the Blues only just flopped in.

Brisbane without Merret desperate enough to put Bradshaw on Fev.

There will be no such worry finding a matchup for the flimsy Carlton forwards this week.

Carlton should match up pretty well on the Saints, although the Saints are a consistent four-quarter outfit this season and we still have major fade-outs. Both back-lines will have their work cut out.

St Kilda are playing good footy at the moment but I look forward to seeing their first loss because I among others think they will crumble back into the shit they usually play. Geelong will smash them in round 14 and show them up as pretenders.

As for the weekends game. Carlton probably don't have the eveness over four quarters just yet but still a very good chance if we play our best. Our midfield should provide us with alot of opportunity to kick a score.

I just can't see Carlton kicking the score to beat us; we have numerous match-ups for Fev. And I think you'll struggle to curb our forward line. I don't think it has been hurting them just yet, but I think Waite is an enormous loss for the Blues, and by the end of the season his injury will be talked about as a critical moment for them.

Should be a great game though I'm really looking forward to it.

And BTW the DVD jokes are just so unfunny now its ridiculous.

I think you're right, will be interesting to see who goes with Riewoldt this game with no Waite.

If we're going to even challenge you it will all start with tackling and pressure. If we're not 100% in those two areas we have no chance.

Love the way the St Kilda mids go about it, probably the hardest working engine in the competition going the other way.

How about in round 2 when Merret was playing, we still won. It is gonna be a tough game for the blues.

For this weeks match the Saints will probably field their best team for the year.

Milne and Gilbert will both be back.

King will quite likely get suspended, but Gardiner will come back. Of the two Gardi has been the much better player this year and so MacEvoy will be an ok fill in for King, but MacEvoy was not so good a fill in for Gardiner who has been tapping superbly and doing very well around the ground.

Max came back last week and will be better for the run (sorry Fev)

So that will give the Saints their best 22 for the year, better than any team yet fielded.

R Clarke will most likely be dropped due to 2 poor games...but the other omission will be stiff.

So IMO the Blues will face a harder task than any of the 11 other teams that we have so far faced.

If Carlton really are coming, they have to make a statement and no better statement then to beat the Saints in Rd 12 on a Friday night.

At the moment there are only three teams; Geelong, Hawthorn and St.Kilda.

If Carlton can knock off the Saints, which i think they can..... then they really are coming!

Carlton by 8 pts

and you base this on recent form???? Saints 11 win in a row, Carlton 2 wins in a row. or maybe your baseing it on past encounters between the two teams in which the saints have won the last 12 by an average of 48pts.

Since the introduction of the draft, especially the priority picks and salary cap, the traditionally wealthier clubs, like Carlton and Essendon, have been less able to buy the players to help win them so many flags. Though Carlton obviously thought they could circumvent that with impunity. The old zoning system introduced in the 1960s as was unfair as some clubs zones e.g. Carlton's and Hawthorn's were far superior to others. So the 'we are a better club than you because we have won so many flags etc.' argument is a simplistic one at best.

From what I have seen of Carlton this year, they thrive on a free-running gamestyle, at all times trying to afford their talented midfield premium space through which to move and deliver.

They did this well for 3 quarters against Brisbane on the weekend, and essentially dictated how the game was being played.

Against teams like Collingwood, the Eagles and the Dogs, Carlton duped them into playing this style once more and - let it not be mistaken - wiped the floor with them as a firing Carlton (with Fev on song) is a dangerous outfit.

It is no surprise to me that Adelaide handed the Blues their worst defeat of the year.

The odds will say that Carlton have no hope on Friday but this is not true.

I will be very interested, however, to observe how Ratten and his troops handle what St Kilda throw at them. They are going to need a Plan B or risk being blown away. The pressure which will be exerted on their ball carriers will be something new to them. Also, as has been mentioned, Fev will not have as easy a time as he did in Brisbane. Not by a long shot.

Our game against North on Saturday also demonstrated that with one of our key forwards being triple-teamed, the other is likely to kick a bag. Milne, Gilber and MG will be back, and the boys know if they get through this one, a 16 day break awaits.

In summary, it's not as one-sided as people may think. The Blues are quick enough and very skillful. Given room they will hurt you.

I can't see, however, the Saints giving them that room. Pressure is the buzz word of the AFL. The Saints have it in spades. And I can't see this group letting our growing dominance over the Blues slip.

Tip: St Kilda by 55.

nice to read a post from a Saints fan about Carlton that was well articulated and thought out rather than filled with hatred, envy and bias (Jeff Dunne take note).

I agree with all your comments but hope the margin is closer.

Yeah why didn't think of that?

Talk up Carlton's chances and then . . . predict a 9 goal spanking!! :D

TBH, I'm not as optimistic as Quixote. I mean we're in such shocking form and Carlton are taking the competition by storm. Frankly I'll be happy if we can keep it under a 90pt blowout!

Will be a very tough ask and no Carlton supporter can go into this confident. Everything will need to go right for us to have a chance.

Nice to see some fairly open mischief cough*trolling*cough from usual suspects though.

But seriously folks ... if you allow Carlton space they have the personnel to burn you. Ask Brisbane. The hallmark of our season to date is to deny sides that space. It seems it will be a battle of who executes their gameplan better.

I like our chances to win, and frankly expect to, but Carlton are not without a decent chance either.

Certainly a prosperous era of cheating, rorting and skullduggery. You should be proud...

So very, very true. I like the Saints, they (due to Barry Breen) cost us another flag. But I really respect that club & how they go about it. Give me a club with heart & soul against a "win at all costs inc cheating" anyday.

Brisbane ran out of defenders. Not good when Carlton's gameplan is kick it to Fev. Doesn't help either when raw defenders are being pinged when the FF stages for free kicks.

I'm confident we can shutdown Carlton like we have every other team this year.

Can't see their defense coming close to stopping us.

TBH, the main difference won't be talent. It will be in the coaching box.

This is very winnable for the blues. Since the Essendon game we haven't been as good, and the last couple we've been pretty awful, luckily playing junk sides.
If we play like we have the past 2-3 weeks carlton will win this. If we rediscover our mojo it'll be another 10 goal rout.Let's hope we come to play,be nice too see the arrogant followers of a hollow historied football club lose again

JD, argument-wise you're in the box seat as I can't see us beating you this week.

As usual the back-handed compliment of our win interstate on Sat nite. Must have been the umpires?

Love your passion if nothing else.
