Well no. The impetus for my post was relating to the OP gloating in Carlton's misery.

Fact is, we suck too (recent form excluded). So gloating in Carlton's misery seems hollow given our situation. So I basically saying "Hey, don't worry about Carlton, worry about us". As in, if given the choice of what we have now (Carlton suck and we suck) and what we could have (we make finals, Carlton get decent), I'll take the latter.

Ed I wasn't gloating. I was bathing in the karmic beauty of long-term, recidivist campaigners losing and losing. I never rejoiced in Fitzroy or the Swans having epic losing streaks. Carlton are different. They are pestilence of biblical proportion.

Carlton are shit. We can gloat. Gloating wont make Collingwood any better or worse. It doesnt affect the outcome.

But yes as per an early post of mine, I'd like to see Carlton (and Essendon) continue to rot while we win at least another 3-4 flags. Winning just one in their era of shitness isnt enough to make up for all those years.

Your theoretical still sucks. In choice between Collingwood making the finals and Collingwood not making the finals, its obvious what we all prefer, regardless of what Carlton does.

Although I wasn't old enough to endure the pain of the 60s, 70s & 80s. I can hear it in the voice of the older generation of pies fans. I can feel it.

From a young age it was instilled into me to hate Carlton. This was easy to do, as I started attending big games in the early 90s I felt the mutual hatred and was subject to taunting and ridicule after a Loss to the Blues. This was coming from grown adults.
It was a much wilder time in the crowd I would agree, but seriously?

I remember crying after the game in 1992 in our 100th anniversary game. I was gutted last year when they rolled us in our 125th year celebration.

I went to the 2011 GF. Sitting behind me were a couple of Blues supporters who obviously were AFL members. All day they were giving it to our players, calling them ******s, duds etc. I can't stand people in the crowd who don't even celebrate a goal or a speccie for either team, but would rather abuse and make fun of a teams misfortunes. It's simply pathetic. These blokes took up a couple of seats on GF day to laugh and celebrate a Collingwood GF loss.

I HATE Carlton... I always will. A Carlton loss is equal to a Collingwood win.

Ed not sure you can ever justify not bagging Carlton.
