Lies, damn lies and statistics.
You really think Carrots uses the ball as well as Gibba, and better than Murph?

The stats don't lie, the just don't show the whole story.

Murph and Judds best is far better than Carrazzo could ever hope to achieve. Carrazzo at his best has good neat kicking skills, whereas Judd and Murph can put a kick to space for a forward to perfectly run onto. They're capable of much better things than Carrazzo skills wise, its just Carrazzo gets his throat jumped down when he shanks it because he doesn't do the amazing like the others.

His disposal isn't the best in the competition but why is he being so harshly criticised at the moment...? Look at the stats in 2011:

The stats don't accurately capture, though, the damning situations that arise most weeks... for instance where Carrots has the ball, in space, and has the opportunity to kick it 45m to a teammate making good position and he JUST. CAN'T. DO IT. There's no stat for that, but gimme goals go wanting often because of his lack of penetration and precision by foot.

I'm not calling for his head - he brings enough to the team, in my opinion, to more than justify his existence. It's frustrating, though, that opportunities go begging because his field kicking is so poor. He gets picked on as a whipping boy, but it's a team wide problem.

Over the next 12-18 months we are going to need to find a couple of players who have genuinely nice skills in order to "do damage" when we have the ball. Hopefully "Sugar" Kane Lucas can be one of those, but the jury is out there. If those players eventuate, it's possible Carrots finds himself on the outer, but until someone forces him out of the team, he's in there and doing the job.

Sadly our current other run with players just don't seem to be able to win the ball themselves at all (Joseph, Armfield). This isn't so much a problem for Armfield as he does his job excellently and mainly plays in the back half and not the midfield.

From what i've seen from Lucas this year hasn't been good unfortunately. His disposal was country league level in one match (multiple out on the fulls with low pressure) and average at best in the other. I think he will come good though as his disposal was quite neat when playing for the Blues last year. He is one who definitely could do the Carrots role if he comes along as we hope/expect.

I love Carrots. He is such a proud club man and team man and gives his all. He plays a role consistently well, week in week out. he doesn't make all that many mistakes either. Problem is, when he does they are usually out and out howlers that can and do cost momentum and goals. Which means that if a player can be found who can play his role without the mistakes he has to go. Until then his good far outweighs the bad.

I think we are a better team when Carrazzo is getting 30 touches and hurting teams and making them play tight on him which in turn frees up Murph and Juddy and Gibbsy. He is good as a stopper but more damaging when getting a heap of the ball. He can always stop players and play the tagging role but we need more from him than just this.

This is the most amazing paragraph ive ever seen on big footy !!!

Just staggering !!!

well hopefully we see an improved Carrazzo very soon! everyone in the 2's seems to be pushing hard for selection, and not many injuries either. that should put the pressure on!

I love him too and think that he is very much needlessly maligned. Saying that he had a howler on Friday but its what he does this week against Port that will define him.

I liked that he put his hand up and admitted what a shocker he had but the simple fact is that he is in our best 22. No one is close to costing him his position and the on field role he plays.

He bleeds blue and is a true clubman, I want him in the side just for that magical moment last year against Essendscum when he looked at one of their players and gave them a big whoa whoa. Priceless!

Anyone able to find that magical moment and post it?

Sure to get a few of the ill informed back in the Carrots corner!

I feel Carrazzo needs to be dropped for a week or two in order to regain his drive and want for the ball. He seems a little complacent and sure of his position in the side. Yet when performing at his best is definetely in our best 22
