Would many teams fork that out for a full forward?
When you know you can feed them and they're kicking bags I wouldn't think it's to much of a stretch? Woorinen off the top of my head are competitive without a stay at home forward that I can think of with so many mids scoring, nearly everyone else relies on one and the better you can get, you'll chase them. That's why they shop around while they're worth something.

Woora did have Glenn Boyd at times and if there’s a gun full forward on offer to my club I’m seriously in favour of taking him

If your mids are that good aren't you better off developing your own young gun. The best forwards in the leagues have nearly all being locals. Carroll, thamm, Holt, foote, Anderson, Lloyd, Livingston, McGowan, Easton.

The grounds are that big if you have a powerful midfield your probably going to win

You could probably get a car full of Geelong league guns for 3k I reckon
Everyone would be doing that if it was possible.
He’s very handy but 2k is a lot of money. You could get 4 good players for that
I think the problem is finding 4 good players who want to drive up this way for $500 a game. If they are any good they will be driving past plenty of clubs willing to pay more.

Paying someone like Dunstan that money only works if he brings players with him imo. I’d love to know what forwards like Arho, Monfries and Eagle were getting. Even someone like Curnow is going to demand massive money.
Ask Quamby people the money they were offering to Central Murray players and not being able to get them last season. It’s a bloody tough job recruiting

Can't develop what you don't have hence the money for a genuine gun forward, could be wrong but hasn't been to many local forwards since any of those listed, and the ones listed were quite loyal to the area

Eagle was reported to be on $2800 a game and travelling from Adelaide.

Rumour at the time was 6000 to 8000 a game. Birchip must have Al Capones accountant running their books. Apparantly harvested over $800,000 in crop last 3 years, crop over 2000 acres
Do they have their own club run farm or do they rely on donations from farmers in the community?

Own farm. Rumour has it that 3 brothers who play there(1 x afl) who farm near Warracknabael have been known to pull into a chemical seller and drive out with ute loads of spray etc on the birchip farm account

Yeh wouldn’t surprise me with the limited games he was supposed to play, it seemed very unlike Tyntynder getting him in.
Clubs like Birchip can’t really offer jobs like other clubs can so they probably have to be a little bit more brazen getting around the cap.

Not sure many clubs can offer the jobs the vafa have on offer though.

Brad Carroll should be pretty upset, I'd doubt he'd have been paid half of that in his prime

Great point. Imagine if big Charlie was in his prime these days…could write his own cheque anywhere.

One of the best I played against and so bloody loyal to his club

Another signing for Boga, Lochie Laing from Maroochydore
