It looks like it will be a case of:

Out: Wingard, Polec, Pittard, pick 23, pick 30, pick 48, pick 50
for
In: Pick 5 (Rankine or Rozee or Smith), Burton, Pick 15

Just process that.

Let's say Wingard for Rozee - loss
Polec for Burton - maybe break even, probably loss
Pittard, pick 23, pick 30, pick 48, pick 50 for pick 15 - massive loss

What the hell have we done??????
I keep saying if our list management guys can't get our ruck list management right over 4 years, scared to get 1 extra ready to go ruckman, then what chance have they got to get the complicated shit right?

If what you say above turns out and is what we get, after starting off with 5 picks under 50, after doing all that pick swapping in 2017 and trading out depth payers in 2017, for 2018 picks as well, then we are stuffed.

They have been blinded by a couple of star SA kids.

But we will do a bit better than you posted. Pick 6 + Hombsch will get us pick 5 from the GC and we will also have 10, 15 and Burton.

If the super deal happens, 5 flows from Brisbane to Freo for Neale, then to Melbourne for Hogan and then to GC for May. There are side deals but this is how 5 will basically flow. I can live with 6+Homsch for 5 as an isolated transaction but after 2 years of pick swapping we have to find another tall young KPD otherwise it leaves another big gap in the list.

* Ex CEO Mark Evans becames GM Footy Operations before shipped off the the GC to save AFL's baby
* AFL brokered deal to get ex Hawk to become coach at Brisbane
* Ex President at Hawks after Kennett's first terms, Andrew Newbolt was appointed to the Commission within a couple of months of finishing up as prez. Is now #2 behind chairman Richard Goyder.
* Other ex Hawks serve in several key positions and committees at AFL.
* Ex CEO of Hawks Stuart Fox is CEO at MCG, helps with their stadium yield.

That's what happens when you win lots of premiership and have that 20 year run from 1971-1991 for 8 flags. The successful 20-30-40 year olds from that era become powerful and/or influential 40-50-60 year olds at HQ and around the game.

You might add: AFL steps in to “manage” the future scope of North’s Hobart adventure, so as not to upset Hawthorn’s Launceston cash cow too much. But I can’t point at a name so...

Bloody hell, for all the justifiable point bitching and moaning about the Vic old boys club that is AFL House, imagine if a bloody SANFL executive had been restructured into that more independent form back in the 1980s and made appointments on merit rather than on factional alignment and club lines.

We’d have been running the place in 1990 instead of being run over by it.

:(

Speaking of naming names and wild allegations, do we know exactly who is it in AFL House that approves seemingly rapacious trades so long as the right clubs are bent over?

Wouldn’t be some ex-Hawk or a “known associate” would it?

I'm still traumatized by last years trade. Didnt we swap 11 and 29 for 17 and 27? Something bizarre like that.

Can anyone walk me through what that was about?

You mean 2016? We swapped 9 and 19 for 14, 16, 30 and 31 I believe. We got Marshall, SPP, Drew and Atley. Swans got Florent and Hayward.
I get that all drafts are different but that year we downgraded our first pick in a break even points trade. This year we upgraded our first pick and paid a 50% points premium.

Hard to argue that we could have won both those trades... I guess we should take comfort knowing we dealt fairly with the other clubs.

Whether it's TRUE.

Fairfax Media understands that Chad Wingard’s move to Hawthorn, in exchange for Ryan Burton and pick 15 – and possibly something else – is potentially linked to these moves, with Port eventually ending up with pick five and losing pick six. They would also receive pick 15 from Hawthorn.

One is the possible involvement of Wingard’s move from Port to Hawthorn, another would be that Jack Hombsch would be traded to Gold Coast, which would receive pick six and Hombsch, in return for May and Kade Kolodjashnij, who would both join Melbourne. Port, having already traded down in the trade for pick six, would move further down to pick five.

The trade has been largely put together by the AFL’s biggest player management group TLA, which handles Neale, Hogan, Wingard, Lobb and Hombsch

That's it. But it wasn't for 30 and 31. They were 100% separate to that.

Who we got is irrelevant to applying that theory going forward

I think you are mixing up 2016 and 2017.

Port Adelaide got 14 + 17 + 31 gave 9 + 19 + 49
Sydney........ got 9 + 19 + 49.. gave 14 + 17 + 31

After compo and academy bids it became 16+18+33.

last year we traded many 3rd and 4th round picks between 2017 and 2018.
