Is it just me or does anyone else find these Cash Converter ads with highly paid footballers such as Cripps, popping into Cashies to pick up a bargain ,a little weird?
yeh to be honest thats the only reason I dislike Cripps (and Petracca). their cash converter ads ;)

Midfield battle of the 2 master and apprentices should be exciting: Neale/Ashcroft vs Cripps/Walsh. 2 Brownlow medallists and 2 future medallists ;)
You mean a 2 time brownlow medalist and the future 4 time brownlow medalist, vs a snipping hack and a middling mid

;)

nice revisionist history. there are many cases overturned on appeal. doesn't mean they're guilty.

end of the day he was cleared to play, earned the most votes and is a worthy brownlow medalist.
Many guilty men and women walk free today.

Fair enough. End of the day all of us didn't like to see it, but the carry on to cheapen Cripps' brownlow is a bit childish tbh.

This game should be a cracker, we're in s**t form but at home. Bris are in hot form but have questions on the road.

At the end of the day, Carlton had the Brownlow and Coleman medalists and still didn't make the cut, so think it says everything it needs to about individual accolades. I didn't like it at the time but honestly, probably a good thing because with our midfield spread now across Dunks, Neale and Ashcroft he's probably not going to rack up the votes by himself anymore. And that is a good thing for us going into September.

One thing's for sure, we are both going to find out something about our teams this year come Friday.

I've noticed you've moved on from "found innocent" quickly once the facts were pointed out. 😁

innocent/case thrown out/not guilty - take your pick :)
Excellent, I will continue to pick "Guilty but not suspended due to a technicality in the wording."

The AFL tightening the legal loophole used by Cripps' team was a complete coincidence. Oh well, luckily for Carlton he was able to get off and lead them to the finals last year.

Absolutely and have posted as such in game day threads. Find it quite odd watching a bloke on 1 million a year swooping in under the nose of a regular punter to grab the last cheap x box or whatever.

I don't think we will send anyone to Cripps early in the game.
Cripps is averaging a career high 29.9 disposals a game.
But this has come from handballs. His handball average is 20.3 per game together with a 9.6 kick average.
Last week Cripps had 6 kicks and 27 handballs.

Berry has only attended BCA's against Demons 71% and Dogs 35%. He may come in at some stage if we have a center clearance issue.
Depends on who replaces Zorko which way they may go with Berry.

Last week Rayner attended just 2 CBA's, his only 2 for the year and had i center clearance.
If they bring in Cockatoo for Zorko, Rayner could attend more CBA's.

When Zorko's replacement is named that will give us a better understanding of how we approach replacing his midfield & forward time.

HUGE match I reckon.

5-2 is a real tipping point as this part of the season. 6-2 is a great launching pad. 5-3 is middling. We also have away games for the rest of the year against Adelaide / Collingwood / Melbourne / St Kilda which all loom as more difficult. So if we lose this i struggle to see us avoiding more than 7 losses and hence not being top 4.

We would also lose a lot of the 'no good away from home' chat if we won in Melbourne on a Friday night. So far this year our TOUGH away games, against parochial crowds, have been a shocking loss vs Port and a lacklustre loss v dogs. We have done well to win on the road since but one game was a neutral one vs lowly North, and win v Giants at their second home ground at which they haven't won at since 2019.

Saints / Pies / Port / Geelong all have pretty easy matches. If we lose we lose a game to them all.

As to the match, simple to say but win the midfield and we should be fine. I would replace Zorko's midfield minutes with Berry and get him targeting Cripps. Carlton's midfield has been derided as too slow but that mainly applies when they don't win the ball. We should be wary of being too small ie. a starting CBA of Neale / Clugga / Ashcroft. Ashcroft has been fantastic but does drift in and out of games. To be expected with someone in their first year on the ball. The beauty of Dunkley is he gives us some size but also actually gets the ball.

My CBA midfield would be:

Neale / Dunkley / Berry most minutes
Followed by McCluggage / Aschroft
Cameos from Rayner / Bailey

Wing a combo of Wilmot / Ah Chee (comes in for Zorko) / Bailey / Clugga

I'm not sure what the key is but we have to figure out a way to get Rayner more involved. We often speak about how much of a bull he is. He is also highly skillful and calm. The left-foot pass in the Collingwood game off one step, in the second quarter, to Wilmot maybe? Sublime. On the wing on the weekend he got it in traffic and put out a perfectly weighted pass to a player running right on the boundary line who didn't have to break stride.

Prior straight swap for Rich.

I would bring Joyce in because i think he is a break-glass for Curnow.

So Joyce to Silvagni, Andrews to Mckay, Payne to Curnow. Payne's athleticism gives him the nod on Curnow. Harris has a good tank too and McKay is getting up the ground a lot.

Daniher and Hippy told to do what they need to every week - especially whomever is on Weitering - get the ball to ground as a minimum.

The other key to the forward line at Docklands is space. It's funny how everyone talks about it being fast and a key forward heaven. It being smaller i think the challenge is to give your forwards space and being able to use the corrier. The dogs cluttered us up a lot in round 3 on both fronts. We need 2/3 of our key forwards leading up the ground and creating space. And we need to be braver with ball movement. The 45 kicks / corridor kicks always look a bit risker at Docklands. We just would not pull the trigger v the dogs. We had no Rich but he has not been brave this year anyway. Kiddy was very out of sorts that night, i hope he has been told you are replacing Rich, get the ball in your hands, take the game on. Prior should be given the chance too - he's a good kick and importantly keeps the ball low. Mckenna is the other option to run it out. We have NO dare last time so let's hope we have learnt!

We'll go better this time around. We played Dogs with meddling form line and still trying to settle in the middle. Now Neale, Dunkley, Ashcroft are starting to blindly handball to each other running it out - there is lot more cohesion visible in our plays through the middle. Ashcroft is gaining confidence to take turns to go under the packs as well and not waiting on the outside anymore.

Just need to keep the forward pressure to the same level we had with Freo and North, we'll be able to score. Linc played so well in the last 2 rounds in terms of tackle pressure on the forward line, I hope he's fit to take on Saad. I'd put Joyce on McKay and take my chances with his poor kicking. Andrews being free as third tall will help support Payne in terms of running with Curnow.

If we bring 4 quarter effort, we'll have too much for them to handle.

'In some good news for Zorko, his strain is to his left hamstring and not his right'

Well that's just hunky dory then isn't it.

Whatever it takes we need him back this year.

I wish i had your faith!

I agree we seem to be going better. But if we lose this match then hard to be confident about that. It feels like a fork in the road to me. Would not shock me if we win well. But equally i can imagine a big blues crowd and a suddenly confident Carlton winning the midfield battle.

I would probably try Joyce on McKay and Payne on Curnow and see if Harris can float. Starce on Silvagni?

100% ideal scenario would be Joyce being able to play on McKay, with Andrews playing off Silvagni to impact the contest. The issue will be the former not becoming a liability for us.

We have 2 very winnable home games after this, if we can win this one we have a big chance of being 8-2.

I think Carlton played themselves back into form on the weekend and this will be a tougher game than people think.

Had us at 10/2 after beating the pies.

Only 4 games before the bye. Might as well give them an extra couple of weeks to build fitness
The depth is there to do it I reckon, and we probably need to confirm it now rather than later in the season
Yes it is a no brainer to keep them out till after the bye, give them both a good fully fit training block in the 2-3 weeks prior to the game after the bye.
