They won't pick Moore unless they think he'll get through the game. How does Madgen stack up against a 4 quarter Moore?

Either way, I think Oxley and Murphy will go before Madgen.
Oh yeah how many of them has more got through this year? Of course unless they think he can get through but its still a huge risk with his history

With respect. The greatest risk to our chances of winning is being down on rotations. Because of Moore and others this year we have played 6 games this year down on rotation and lost 5 of them. Against richmond we were in it and then Shaz's injury sapped our drive (again 2 rotations down against richmond in the earlier game)

in an important final risking unfit or suspect players should be avoided. I've watched the Freo game 6 times now and can't believe that we aren't praising madgen, rather than calling for him to be dropped. I feel he is better than Dunn and this leaves us at an advantage not the other way around. If anyone in defense is a major risk it's greenwood...he is too slow to play on WC smalls....they will tear him a new one. The question is do we tag or not? If not I would replace Howe for him and back the backline that has saved us for the past few weeks. More praise for Maynard who has played very well over the past month.
Watched the replay to and thought Madgen was very good, wouldn’t drop him for Goldy or Moore. So Howe in for Oxley.

If we need another lock down defender I’m an Apples fan so would use him instead of Greenwood in defence. I would use Greenwood as a midfield tagger, which means Aish or Varcoe go out.

Murphy stays in for me as I think he could be anything and looks like one of those kids that can play a blinder in a final and in any position.

Treloar is the big query for me, do we play him or wait a week?

Curious how four players kicking thirty plus in a year has coincided in Collingwood making a Grand Final, and in two years (1935 and 1936 v South Melbourne) the Maggies winning premierships. Wouldn't consider the other years, considering the Colliewobbles were contagious!

All right lads, time to get some redemption for the 1980 debacle!

The last time the pies won the flag a moth flew.in my ear 5 metres from home ....had to gonto hospital....
I Would go through that pain again for another flag

Carn the bloody woods
when i was 7 a fly flew onto my eye and I squished it when i blinked and all i could see and feel was its guts until i washed my eye and even then i felt some of it was still around my eyeball, this has nothing really relevant to collingwood but thought i would share anyways.

Mr fumbles is not coming in after one half of a vfl game in the whole season. Not happening.

Guess we are going to have to do with Mr VFL himself Oxley. :drunk:

I'd rather Mr. Fumbles to be honest.

I'm no Oxley fan either and would prefer a fit Goldsack any day of the week, but Goldy isn't match fit and is a chronic fumbler which will only be worse with his lack of match practice.

People I think have a ridiculous romantic notion that Goldy can just come in and play good footy. He's not that good, only the best can do that. Treloar for example (and he's only been out less than half the time).

Fair point. I didn't see Goldy's VFL. Did you? I did hear he had an ok game though. I dunno man, I'd rather an underdone Goldy than an Oxley who has played a few games. Even without his match practice, I think Goldy can do enough to disturb the Weagles forwards. I don't expect perfection. Just spoils, handballs, and a few kicks. He can run fast too which will be good against Kennedy.

The thing is we are clutching at straws here. Oxley is an average player. I don't see how he stacks up against the Weagles forwards. Conversely, Goldy, even with his lack of matches and fumbles, can stack up against them. He has proven it in the past. Kennedy has been his bitch. Goldy also has finals experience.

But yes, I do understand your reservations. It will be interesting to see what happens. I'm sure whatever decision is made is what Bucks thinks we need to get the job done. But damn, our backline makes me nervous. Oxley and Magden, no offence, but damn. God help us.

Reckon we can win this game. Thinking back at our last encounter, we were all over them in the first half and should've been further in front.

Our biggest downfall that day was McGovern having free reign due to no Cox.

Add to that Moore getting injured in game.

Add to that Gaff out.
Moore didn't do his hammy though. He played out the game.

Add to this Nicnat not playing and potentially Treloar in.

CFC2010 re Cox and his kicking. He isn’t injured he just doesn’t get enough momentum through his kicking leg and trajectory to reliably cover anything over 45 metres. It’ll be a career long challenge for him because he has such massive levers.

Also he’s criminally overrated on this board by the looks of things! I think it’s most likely because of a dearth of alternative options and his story, but he is our worst regular forward behind Stephenson, JDG, WHE, JT and Mihocek. For some bizarre reason the ability to provide a contest now trumps actual impact on the overall contest...

Agree 1st paragraph, not so the 2nd. No he's not an impact player but structurally he has influence on the opposition. You know as well as anyone else he draws oppo KPD's purely on his size and the fact that his contested aerial ability is improving, no he's not Travis Cloke but he will still improve.

How many other "insignificant" types do we have that play their role to effect? That is something I think some of us forget Scodog, the way we play or Nathan's vision isn't so personnel reliant - hence the importance of our "fringe" types ala Mason.

Sure it'd be nice to have Trav, Tomahawk or Jack at peak but we don't, but what we do have is a potent combination with him in it.

Family always comes before club so whether Varcoe plays or not, wishing his sister, him and family all the very best with her recovery.

Whatever he decides regarding playing (or not), i’m Sure the club will both respect and support him. As should we.

He however, may feel it be better to be around team mates and play in the first final vs Eagles.

I remember Ron McKeown facing Melbourne in the semis of 1988 hours after his Grandfather has passed away.

Not hoping this will be the case for Varcoe but some players have solace in the game they know all too well.

Godspeed Travis.

Risks are the same for any member of the 22 to sustain an in-game injury. Did you think Appleby would do a hammy, did you think Aish would do a PCL, did you think Howe would get a major corkie, did you think Dunn or Shaz would do acl's? Shit happens, you can't exclude your classiest KPD option because you're scared. If he's judged fit, you play him. If he doesn't get through a game, cest la vie.

It was just that, "okay", on managed minutes. Even accounting for natural rust, those characteristic fumbles were still there. That will be punished in finals footy. On the other hand, he still has his thumping peg and our defenders were noticeably more disorganised when he was rotated off the field.

As to your second point, quick reminder that the last time the two crossed swords, Kennedy booted 5 on him.

Nope. He actually made it through that one.

How about 2 VFL games? There's another game he can play in this weekend, being a final there should be a step up in intensity too.
