Going to be a very tough one, obviously. Some question marks on a few Eagles helps, likely they'll risk them all I guess. McGovern would be licking his lips playing on a forward line that includes Cox.

I'd say Mayne comes in if fit. Sier too hopefully. Tyler Brown and Varcoe out, Stephenson to play forward

Agree, this will sure up our contested ball where Port got on top of us. Need to find smaller targets in the forward line and keep the ball away from Gov and Barrass.

This is a game where we need $7 million Brodie Grundy to step up. I know he's carrying an injury and nowhere near his best but we absolutely need him to nullify NN in the ruck and make the most of it when Allen is in the middle.

If there was any a week we need to have a good connection it's this one. We win the midfield battle, we win the game.

Rd 1 CC +10 (52 point win v Dogs)
Rd 2 CC +5 (Draw v Richmond)
Rd 3 CC +6 (44 point win v Saints)
Rd 4 CC +3 (2 point loss v Giants - should've won)
Rd 5 CC -4 (15 point loss v Dons)
Rd 6 CC +5 (32 point win v Hawks)
Rd 7 CC +3 (22 point win v Cats)
Rd 8 CC -3 (66 point loss v WCE)
Rd 9 CC -3 (12 point loss v Freo)
Rd 10 CC -3 (9 point win v Swans)
Rd 11 CC +4 (24 point win v Crows)
Rd 12 CC +1 (56 point loss v Dees)
Rd 13 CC -7 (30 point win v NM)
Rd 14 CC +3 (24 point win v Carlton)
Rd 15 CC + 0 (8 point loss V Lions)
Rd 17 CC -3 (22 point win v GC)
Rd 18 CC -10 (16 point loss v PA)

So effectively we are 6 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses (one by 2 points to GWS) when we win the centre clearance battle (so ideally we should be 7-1).
Wins against WB, Saints, Geelong, a draw with Richmond, and a win over Carlton. All teams around the mark (4 of them playing finals next week).

When we lose the centre clearance count, we are 3-4 but those wins came against Swans, NM and GC (16th, 17th, 14th respectively)
Losses were against Essendon, Freo, WCE and Melbourne. 3 games we would mark down as wins.

Bring the intensity, bring the fire and win the midfield battle and I think we win the game. I don't think we can win the game purely on scores from opposition turnovers or D50 > F50 scores. I think we MUST kick a winning score from stoppage work. Simple as that.

Eagles have bullied us far too often around the footy, even without NN. Yeo isn't playing and he's there enforcer, Redden will also be out. If there's anytime to beat Eagles it's this week. Greenwood to run with Kelly, Adams to go head to head with Shuey and then Pendles and Treloar to face Hutchings and Sheed you'd presume.

Can we get within five goals?
After the GWS team that beat us in the 2019 Preliminary Final, I'd almost rather WCE go in full strength.
100%. They could be missing their entire midfield... they'll throw someone into the midfield who isn't a midfielder like Petrucelle and he'll probably rip us a new one. Happened with Zac williams in that prelim. Makes me sick just thinking about it.

We all know Grundy has been well down on the last few years performance levels, but funnily enough he was rated our number 1 SuperCoach player against Port, the Pies are #1 in the league for hitouts in 2020 also.

Probably where the OP injury has really affected Grundy has been his follow up clearance work where he normally dominates. It has taken away one of his main weapons. I thought his marking was a bit better against Port. Unfortunately a couple of bad errors with his hit outs, especially the one where Dixon roved for a goal.

Any other coach - sier ruscoe for Thomas and varcoe put sier in the midfield and Elliot up forward have a forward line of
Elliot degoey Mioheck
Stevo cox WHE
Our coach - c brown for stevo
Forward line of
C brown degoey Thomas
Varcoe cox WHE
And wonders why we won't kick over 6 goals and why the mids and backs aren't confident enough to go quick inside 50

I've been waiting for us to flick the switch all year. As each new game comes around, I truly believe, "it's going to happen tonight". Nope. We have rarely got out of second gear. I feel our season will end ugly, just the way it has been played all year. We may grind and fight and keep the scores reasonably low without ever threatening to score enough to win. Can't wait for this abomination of a year to end. Very happy to be proven wrong-this is my very strong gut feeling.

We need a hard tag on T Kelly, by far their most damaging and influential midfielder in the centre.

Have Greenwood tag the !@#$ out of him, and follow him when he goes forward.

Without Kelly and Yeo (injured), the rest of the midfield rotation - Pendles, Adams, Treloar can at least break even with Sheed, Shuey, Redden

Like this idea a lot, Greenwood offers next to nothing as a forward and with the Eagles injuries their midfield is a bit weaker than usual. If Greenwood can give Kelly hell all day then we will be in a great position to win the midfield battle.

Can't argue, virtually nothing has has happened since the Geelong game that has given me any confidence we can do anything in October. We've been ordinary for two months.

Unfortunately the eagles game wasn’t an outlier as bucks once stated.

Robbo on AFL360 saying we're not good enough and writing us off completely. I hope they play that sh*t as a voiceover in the next "Behind the Pies" episode when we beat West Coast.
Can’t stand watching or listening to the bloke... but on exposed evidence, he’s right.
With WCE stars back, and our current lack of confidence and form - not helped by Sidey staying out, Stevo being well down, Grundy well down, coaches’ dearth of answers, getting smacked there last time, quarantine, and the passengers that Bucks either refuses to or can’t replace - we could struggle to kick 4 or 5 goals there

Notice grundy grab his groin against port?
Csnt remember what quarter think pendles went in a ruck throw in then Cox scrambled to the next one

That’s where stats are misleading. Most hit outs, yes, but a lot to opposition players. That’s when it’s actually worth losing this stat...

Wait... Grundy has OP?

"Forward Jamie Cripps will be available to play after returning to Perth for the birth of his first child after the round 14 loss to Richmond on the Gold Coast."

This is ****ed. The AFL should be moving heaven and earth to get us Steele back. It's not our fault Victoria is locked out of the country.

...

Even if he doesn't want to come!

To be honest I don't think Sides would be the difference between a win or a loss. Can win without him, will take a seismic form shift.
