The games are scheduled for the GF not the semis. We finished top, won our qualifying, we get a longer break before the Gf.

It’s always been that way. There’s no shot the afl change it. With the pre finals bye, teams already lost one advantage of finishing top
That’s an explanation of how it should work. I’m only presenting a case that it’s not yet locked in and until it is a change of thread title might be appropriate. Perhaps the AFL might take the view of it being “JUSTICE” were we to receive the Saturday afternoon timeslot?

Certainly a bit worried the lack of announcement yet might mean they are considering looking after the team they manage (GWS)

80K plus Collingwood Supporters on a Friday night at the G Cannot wait for it......

Such a tough week for the selection this with nearly a full list to pick from.

All depend on where they plan to play Nick.

I want Nick Playing forward/mid he is so damaging with his foot skills.

Out Lipinski
In Daicos

Sub Ginni

#makeitlegendary

In many ways the PF is the last chance for us Pies fans to exploit our numerical dominance. As we know the GF crowd has a more even spread of members and supporters, plus neutrals, corporates, etc.

So let’s be very loud next Friday night! Can’t wait!

If we play Brisbane you would think the MCC and AFL members areas will be pretty heavily stacked the pies way

Would hope so, but in my experience of watching us in GFs from the MCC members, the non-aligned tend to barrack loudly for whoever we play. Just as I did in the recent Richmond GFs at the G. I even wore a GWS badge for the 2019 GF.☹️

Wow, a week after they beat us by 4 points in the rain? You must really hate Richmond. I can't even watch the GF in the years we lose a prelim.

I just realised that I have come close to fully grieving that 2019 prelim loss. The 2022 season helped immensely but then unfortunately left it's own trauma. Hopefully 2023 cures that.

Just got on pretty solid authority from someone who works in corporate at Carlton that they are preparing for a 4.45PM game in Brisbane next Saturday afternoon if they are to win tomorrow night.

A nice little curtain raiser for the Broncos game on Saturday night

Will Noble make the team this finals run?

Many are literally discounting him but it's tough... who goes out? Markov has been good

I've changed my view on this. I am being conditioned to think Fly and the selection committee pick the best available side based on match ups and game style for each game. I think Noble is still high in consideration and there are too many variables at play

What it does mean is training for 6 or so players for the variable spots would be intense therefore pushing the whole group.

In the ancient game🤣 the side was picked on position and form. Flys modern game is he has a squad of players from which he picks 23 every week. Our lack of injuries right now make this very competitive.

This makes me believe that Naicos will not be risked in any way whatsoever. He will need to 100% ready to go for a final.

Exciting times.

Markov is ahead of Ginnivan. Played more games. Shame if either miss now.

They play different ends. Doubt we’ll move from our usual 7 defenders, 7 forwards, 8 mids so if Nick Daicos is coming in and playing HB, it’s more likely a HB he’ll replace. If he’s playing midfield, it’s more likely a midfielder he’ll replace. There is some capacity to shuffle some deck chairs (ie: Crisp or Pendles more midfield and less defence; Lipinski more forward less midfield; WHE forward/wing) but they won’t change the 7-7-8 structure.

I think/hope it's Daicos in for Lipinski, with one of Markov/Nick/WHE moving upfield

Who’s locked it in? There’s been no formal announcement from the AFL and only journos have speculated on it AFAIK. With GWS potentially travelling home from Adelaide on the Sunday into a Friday match at the G I’d suggest it’s not 100% that we’re hosting on Friday night just yet.

Surely you’re not counting a Sunday flight as a five day break…..

No I never referred to number of days break. My point was rather that if they win there’s the slightest possibility the AFL may factor the Sunday flight into their PF weekend fixturing if it hasn’t been finalised. Based on the post from adamov13 I think we’re good (the key to the oil being good was the time because that arvo slot is never 4:45).

FWIW my POV on the break stuff would actually be more about nights in your own bed which in this case would be 4 between matches, but **** them we should get every advantage for finishing first and winning our QF.

why are we dropping Ginnivan??
Because he’s had a shit year and isn’t best 23? Why are we retaining him over guys that are clearly inside the best 23 is the more pertinent question.

FWIW spare me the “he performed well v Essendon and with limited game time v Melbourne” the Essendon match was a fill your boots one and he cashed in and we couldn’t move the ball off HB late game v the Dees so Noble was the correct choice as sub for that one.

I think it’s extremely unlikely that gWs will get a Friday night game. The top ranked team deserves an 8 day break to the grand final. It’s not our fault that Sydney Airport has a curfew.

Easiest selection ever. Daicos to HB, Markov to sub and Ginnivan misses.
I prefer the below, but I am just flat exhausted with Lipinski. Personally wouldn't bother with him for another week after his game against Melbourne, which was mostly a let-down (again). He has been far more down than up this season IMO. Hoskin-Elliott to play Lipinski's connecting runner role, Nick to launch our attacks from the backline. I think the speed aspect is more important to our style than what Lipinski brings personally.

FB: Howe - Murphy - Maynard
HB: N. Daicos - Moore - Quaynor
C: J. Daicos - De Goey - Sidebottom
HF: McCreery - Mihocek - Hill
FF: Elliott - McStay - Adams
FOLL: Cox - Pendlebury - Crisp
INT: Mitchell - Markov - Hoskin-Elliott - Cameron
SUB: Ginnivan

Might want to review that post TFT 👍

As it stands the thread title is wrong on the basis of your post and I’ll be ropable if it goes that way.

Lipinski was good v the Dees aside from a couple of iffy efforts, but they won’t drop him for that. Ginnivan is as slow as Lipinski and has nowhere near the sustained running power. Unfortunately Ginnivan left his run to late and Lipinski’s “dip” hasn’t been enough to surrender his spot this week at least.

Was he? In what ways was he good?

His ball use was top drawer. Chaining handballs and spot up kicking. For context on the night he was better than Jaicos, Elliott and McReery. Don’t get me wrong he’s on the edge, but Ginnivan hasn’t done enough to move past him. What do you think Ginnivan has done to move past him in the pecking order?

I agree Lipinski was good. I think there was one fumble under pressure which probably sticks out in people's mind. People need to remember that an excellent game from Lipinski is usually 20+ touches but a good game can still be 15 touches (give or take a couple).

I'm not saying he won't be dropped but I'd be very surprised if he is, especially in favour of Ginnivan.

His handball use was good, but I think top drawer is putting a bit of mayo on it. 4 clangers from 13 disposals isn't too flash. I'll give better than Elliott - I think McCreery was better with his territory gain & pressure. I think he had an equally poor night with Josh, but Josh has much higher standards.

I don't think it's a case so much of Ginnivan having moved past him directly, per se. I think Ginnivan as the sub provides us with more balance, x-factor, and variety than someone else. I think Hoskin-Elliott is a better option for Lipinski's role due to his speed, aerial ability and capacity for applying more pressure than a lettuce leaf. I also would much rather see Hill or McCreery as linking options further away from goal than Lipinski.

Given he seems to be a favourite of Fly, I doubt that he will get dropped. But I think he should. His defensive efforts worry the hell out of me, and I think he'll cost us dearly early on in a high pressure game.
