Love the tough guys who bag WHE for being scared. An extremely durable player. Never been dropped. Some players need to be outside - that's their job. He played well last night.

His mark and handball (Thomas????) that lead to a DeGoey mark and handball to Mihocek in the goalsquare was the pivotal moment of the match . We were never going to lose after that.

He did some nice things, but he just goes missing for me and I don’t like soft players, but that’s just me. I doubt he’ll get dropped anyways. He goes missing for games, and never gets dropped. So doubt he’ll get dropped after being half useful.

There is a difference between being an outside linking player and being "soft". FWIW there would be no player in the AFL you could legitimately describe as "soft". It's pretty insulting, not to mention ridiculous, to direct that towards a guy who will end up playing over 200 games. Go ahead and question his form, but it takes more than a little intestinal fortitude to run like hell to create space and then take the grab.

But I know, deep down, your real problem is with his age ;)

Trust you enjoyed JT's 100th!

Ofcourse it takes courage to play AFL football. However, there are times he anticipates contact, panics and fumbles. He did that at least twice last night.

Hahaah! That Pendles thread will never be forgotten.

Hope it was his last! Surely you don’t think 4 goals in 11 games is acceptable?

Just can’t see us winning much this year if we are relying only on De GOEY & Cox. Stephenson can’t do much from the grandstands.

I think JT probably deserved to get the chop when he did earlier this year, but since his return he appears to have been serviceable. Hard to tell from just the TV as the small forwards are often doing work away from the ball.

I would like to see Stevo back, but not at his current form. If all is right in terms of his training performances (ie. that he isn't still struggling with whatever it is he has had - the blues, glandular residual), I would give him another go against Port.

IN: J.Stephenson
OUT: C.Brown

if we are to make a serious impact in finals we need Stepho fit and firing. He needs to come in, we need more goals.

B: J.Madgen, J.Roughead, B.Maynard
HB: J.Crisp, D.Moore, I.Quaynor
C: J.Daicos, S.Pendlebury, T.Brown
HF: J.Elliott, B.Mihochek, W.Hoskin-Elliott
F: J.DeGoey, M.Cox, J.Stephenson
R: B.Grundy, T.Adams, A.Treloar
I: J.Noble, L.Greenwood, T.Varcoe, J.Thomas

Would certainly take a half fit Sier over both Brown brothers.

Praying Monday night is a dead rubber so we can rest Grundy. He looks more shot than Beams after a few finger paints.
Sier was average in his AFL stint this year I’d comfortably take both Browns over him when fit let alone at half.

Need a consistent team heading into finals - minimal changes

Out: C.Brown
In: Stephenson

We win this and we don't have to travel to Optus

Eh, for me at least WHE hears footsteps whenever there's a hint of a physical contest. Not someone I want near our finals run.

I think Sier was meant to be available for the last H&A game according to what I last read, but might have changed

he has far more positives than the questionable assertion re courage.
In fact the days of throwing yourself around are gone due to change of rules.
Eg Miller took CB legs with his aggressiveness at the ball - very common and no free kick in the past.
So holding back in contests is not always about courage given the recent rules changes sanitizing the game.

Stephenson is good at one thing, kicking goals. When he’s not kicking goals he isn’t doing anything else. He’s good at about one role, the lead up full forward role but De Goey is just better at it.

In 2018 there were longer quarters so he could rotate with De Goey more and we moved the ball better so he was still a partial threat as a half forward. Now our ball movement sucks and there isn’t enough game time to share in his preferred role for him to excel.

All our other forwards offer something when not the main focal point, Steph does not so I’m quite happy to leave him out.

Anyone think either Ruscoe or Atu could come into the side?
I think with De Goey and Mihocek we have enough undersized key forwards so no to Ruscoe and if Atu was any chance he would have used allot earlier.

I’m sorry but Callum Brown just had to go.Look at his stats last night.11 disposals at 45% efficiency. And - 42 metres gained!I don’t know how a young player can have negative metres gained, but that’s what he did.The kid just can not kick, pure and simple. That shot at goal where he tried to kick around the corner and just kicked it 20 metres sideways pretty much summed up how he plays. We are not a skilled side and we just can not afford to carry people who can not execute basic skills like kicking.

He was building nicely.

Quiet in his first game (but kicked a goal), 23 possessions and 8 clearances second start, and then 16 possessions and five clearances in his third game playing on one leg with 75% game time

Fair enough, but why wouldn't he be getting the center clearances if he is fit? It's largely a matter of him following the ball after his ruck clearances. I think injury is a more likely explanation.

I think he is getting to contested ball at ground level, but seems to be fumbling every time he gets the ball....

I don’t think there is much doubt he is carrying an injury. He can’t jump.

I watched the 2018 PF the other night to check Grundy - I can definitely say while his jumping looked ordinary for much of the season, last night his spring in the ruck was as good as 2018.
Clearly longer recent breaks have given him the respite he needed.

Starred round 1. Great first quarter against the tigers in round 2. Hurt his knee in that game and ever since he's gone from being a star ruckman to a solid ruckman. I'm guessing, but I reckon he's got something floating in his knee which requires arthroscopic surgery and not rest.

I think if he is struggling with a knee, Cox and/or Cameron would’ve done majority of the ruck work in the past few weeks. To me, if your available to play, your carrying general soreness, or some minor issue, but your still able to play your role in the team. A knee issue would be a real issue for a player rucking majority of each game, even more so in a condensed block of matches, which Grundy did. I thought he was good in the second half yesterday, and hopefully he can build from there, going into finals.
He was the second highest ranking player last night on the ground, so he isn't having a horrid season, just not one to his lofty standards.
