Maybe McMahon can provide the stability and leadership along with Firrito, freeing up JMac to instead focus on playing a decent game of footy and offering run and carry as well as poise and positioning. If McMahon positions himself well and reads the game early then his lack of explosive pace won't be such an issue.

I don't mind the move, interestingly though at the start of the season if you'd have told me McMahon would be in the 22 at any stage this year (let alone this soon) I'd have said our season must be screwed. As it turns out..............

I think it's a good story. He could easily have collected his last pay cheque and just had a piss around in the VFL before going back to the SANFL, but he's clearly worked his arse off and got himself into a position to be selected, which is at odds with what I've heard about his attitude previously. He could still have something to offer.

I remember it well. Night after night I'd be sending and receiving abusive telegrams to and from fellow North tragics complaining about selections and the like. Zondor sent me his standard 69 telegrams, although the last one was actually a fat-o-gram he'd met on Macauley Rd. FACT!

I don't understand all the Ziebell haters. He's one of the more consistent guys in the team. Plenty of others that need a rocket before him.

Never said I hate Ziebell, and I'm not advocating he or Cunners be dropped, he's the vice-captain so he's unlikely to get dropped anytime soon anyway.
Just my opinion that the Atley/Ziebs/Cunners group has been gifted games early on, which we probably had to do at the time, but a problem from that is that group knew they'd play every week. Only Wright was the one dropped routinely and he knows where he stands, perform or I'm out.
Basti was dropped and now Atley. That's a message to those guys to start performing consistently.
I just think the Wood/Turner/Dumont group are being made to earn their games much more that that first batch of youngsters and they should be hopefully better off for it, that's all I'm saying. Just seems not all players are being held to the same standards, which doesn't happen in good sides.

I reckon this discussion will soon outrun the sympathy for * board and it's only round ten, Richmond have just beaten the Purples, our former captain is coaching the opposition and i've marked my calendar for today as the first time i've agreed with a Robbo take on North Melbourne - buuuuuut I can't stop myself from saying/writing/typing one last thing : the selection oddity where no-one over the age of 24 gets dropped is obviously becoming a time-honoured tradition and won't change in this testament. Just hoping El Capitan doesn't do any more damage to the hand and the boys give 100% (i'll be able to tell , because the game isn't on the box over here and i'll be on the afl site adding up the stats and listening to the radio)

McMahon looked pretty good too just quietly. Was really cracking in in the tackling drill, moved quicker then I've seen him move for years.
I wouldn't be against giving him a call up.

He's exactly what this board is crying out for, reward for effort. He has worked his arse of to get back to fitness and has consistently gotten praise from the 2s coach. He might not be as talented as Atley or Mullett but he makes up for it with smarts and heart.

Oddly though people are calling for changes but would probably complain if we gave McMahon another well deserved crack.

Nah, I know there's a fairly high level of hysteria about, but I can't see people walking into that one. It'll just make them look stupid.

Very happy for Scotty. He's earned a shot (via hard work) and I'm actually kind of excited to see him back in action for us. Clever player and tough as nails. Beautiful user of the ball, too, which should tick a box that people have been crying out for. Really hope he kills it.

Did you ever not see Pagan or Barassi coach? They said much worse publicly than what we've where said. Oh and by the way, they won premierships for us.
