Will all this Cousins crap distract us this week?
I doubt it. I think even the media is somewhat over it. It has been so recurrent it is hardly news now. Sure, they will report it and hound him (and no doubt jump all over it if we make it deeper in the finals) but no one really pays much attention to it, other than for the complete sadness of it all. Even supporters of other clubs who use to love bringing it up shake their head in resignation that this seems headed for an unhappy conclusion.

Would love to see us throw the toaster and the sink at this game. Could give the Lions a bit of a shock.
They need to throw the whole kitchen cupboard, the fridge and freezer, the stove and everything in the back shed at the Lions....if for no other reason than to lock this in because Shuey might miss a final having a baby!?

What are peoples thoughts on this...? Just curious, anyone find it difficult to accept that a pro footballer misses a final and jeopardizes the whole team, the club and a seasons campaign because he needs to attend the birth of his child?
Do players try to plan births around the season calendar?

Yes I know, it's a harsh comment, but without Shuey we seriously risk dropping a finals game, the impact of that is huge..it just seems incredible? - not incredible that he wants to attend the birth and miss a game, but incredible is the resulting impact it will have...
Simmo rolled his eyes when the date/timing was first mentioned, as if to suggest it could've been better planned...

There should be a no sex rule over the holiday period.
Clarko enforced it during his premiership reign, good enough for clarko, should be good enough for simmo
I for one would... (don't need further distractions)
Kids are great, and attending birth is one of life special moments :)
But in my retirement years, I'd be a little salty I missed out on a GF or 2 ;) not to mention all the GF reunion pissups

As much as I love the club and want it's success, it's just a game. Would much rather the Shuey's as a family have the support of each other at a time like delivering their first child. How many other jobs would tell you "you're wife's pregnant? sorry you can't go"...

I think people take getting pregnant for granted - watch a couple struggle on IVF for years and see if that doesn't change your perspective.

This guy seems to think so

Oh absolutely! I appreciate all the birth/baby/family thing, but it's not about him not going as such, more about better planning...and just the amount of money, time and expertise invested by a club trying to reach finals let alone a GF, then to have your A-grade player miss a final or GF(?) to attend a birth, especially if said team lost the final or GF...it's a quirky conundrum?

It's not really something you can always plan for unless you're lucky.

Maybe it was a happy accident, should they have had an abortion?

Maybe they had been trying for months or years and not falling? I've been there. You don't take a break from that if it might inconvenience your work. You need to keep rolling the dice and cross your fingers you'll finally get lucky.

Let's be real. Shuey should be on the plane. This " you have to be there when your kid is born shit" is a new phenomenon. Not long ago men either waited outside or went about their day as normal. To all the men commenting in here, go ask your dad where he was when you were born!! The answer might surprise you.

This, I don't really care if Shuey misses the GF, I wouldn't begrudge anyone having a baby. My wife has lost 3 in the last 5 years, been going through IVF for the last 4 and I'd miss 100 grand finals to be there at the birth of a happy healthy one.

Not that long ago you couldn't vote if you had a vagina or coloured skin, either. Just because it's what we'd always done, doesn't mean it's what we should always do.

Best of luck to you both, mate. We lost one as well after a year of trying. I've never felt so helpless. Couldn't imagine what you and your wife have gone through.

Comparing this to racism and the vote is a stretch. I get what you are saying...but people miss this in the normal course of events all the time. Plus I'm a selfish POS and he should play.
