I wish I’d responded prior to the game but I was going to pretty much say that Laird>Keays>Crouch>Sloane in terms of our midfield setup. Sloane didn’t deserve his spot in the midfield. Crouch, despite his deficiencies is still better than our young mids and while I wouldn’t mind him not being in the centre, I understand why he’s there. Laird and Keays, despite not being complete players, more than hold their own against most of the other top mids in the comp… as Vader had said previously, the fact that those four are all similar is the problem. I’m glad they didn’t have Sloane in the centre and the fact they persisted with Berry was fab.
Super glad with how the team went about it today. Laird with a game high 10 score involvements, an assist, and a goal. Again, I reiterate, the idea that he isn’t damaging is bogus. He performs just fine. And until we have a Bontempelli or Neale or similar clone then he stays in our first rotation.
