What's wrong with Shepp this year. Has he been playing injured for usually he's Mr Reliable, but have noticed he seems a bit off this year so far?

Look, Vardy could well be. He showed flashes of brilliance in games for Geelong, but most of that was when he was played forward which WCE seem reluctant to do.

I'm ambivalent about Petrie. The thing about Sinkers was he actually gave effort, and seemed to fit in well with the club. I'd prefer his high effort / low ceiling over Jetta's low effort / (supposedly) high ceiling.

I also don't like the way he arrived at the club, like it was a foregone conclusion that we would trade for him without really evaluating his performance. There was one big season. There was also 3 poor seasons, and 17 behinds before a goal. It seems the club, as well as many AFL fans seem to weight the good performance much more than the bad.

You are absolutely correct. Jetta cost us a lot more at the trade table than Redden (Sinclair vs first round draft pick) but while Redden has been outstanding, Jetta was the primary reason we lost games when he was in the team.

The sad thing is, he helped cause the injury to his ankle because he did a bit of his limp body tactic. Its so unnecessary

On that - I think he's performed about as well as our other recent first round trade. The difference between both Wellingham and Redden, and the whipping boy Jetta, is effort.

Lesson learned might be to not trade first round picks. Or keep them. Newman / Sheed / Duggan / Venables are really yet to impact the club moreso than Wellingham / Redden.

You are missing a key point here. Newman / Sheed / Duggan / Venables were all 18 year old kids drafted on potential. Wellingham, in 2012, was already a premiership player and Redden had played 129 games for Brisbane. I think we were expecting similar results plus some improvement when we did those trades and so far Redden has been very underwhelming. Have a look at Redden record at Brisbane - he averaged 23 disposals in 2015 but it was about 16 disposals last year. At least Wellingham's 2015 was very good.
If Jetta is not putting in the effort he will be promptly dropped and that goes for any other as player as well. If that trade is bust then all we have lost is our previously rookie listed third choice ruckman. With Redden it is a first round draft pick down the drain - with Newman no longer on the list, Sheed and Duggan not developing as they should that a luxury we can ill afford.

This is what I just don't get. The Redden trade seemed so safe on paper, he's been pretty prolific and consistent for most of those games... He's still relatively young and I hold out that he'll become more comfortable as the year progresses. Definitely still has class extracting the ball, but can't get to the contests/put himself in the right spots ala Jetta.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if redden steps up when Priddis retires or is out. He played his best footy as the second on baller hff/wing is not his position.

Redden's role at Brisbane was roughly equivalent to what Priddis does here. He can't play that same role, at the foot of stoppages, so the impact is the drop off in tackle and possession numbers.

You've misread that. All I'm stating is our past 6 first round picks haven't really set the world on fire whether we've used them or traded them. So drafting or trading seems to be a moot point, we're not getting an impact player either way. Obviously the Jury is still out on the young ones but we can only judge on what we've seen.
