Don't disagree with this but I don't think we can drop a midfielder to bring in the other defender to replace McGovern down back. If McGovern goes forward, I am not sure we can play Vardy, which raises issues of whether Giles can shoulder the ruck (or Giles goes out and Vardy shoulders the ruck). We seem too tall with Kennedy, Darling, McGovern and Vardy/Giles in the forward line - even if Darling roams further up the ground, especially as we don't have real forward crumbers in the side. I think one of the reasons Simpson doesn't move McGovern forward is we always play two rucks. In a game when we are struggling, it should be done a lot more but starting that way structurally we seem too tall unless we drop another tall.

Must be reading our posts here on BF.

I've been saying this needs to be done this year now we have multiple quality options / depth playing WAFL.

Yeo and Barrass are great intercept marks in defense, you don't need three of them, that's poor defensive balance, we do need one tall who locks down on the oppositions more dangerous tall forward.

Playing Vardy, Kennedy and McGovern forward is a nightmare for the opposition. Darling plays the roaming HFFer and rests in a pocket when Vardy rucks and Giles hits the bench.

Just do it Simo FFS!!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

I agree with McGov and Barass playing the intercept backmen, but three is too many. So Yeo goes to midfield. When Eric (banana man) was playing well he also was good on the intercept and as a bigger body option. We've got ShowField as an option too if we need a more mobile running backman. I'd rather have Yeo and Wellingham go into the centre. Hurn, Masto and Jetta should be used at halfback/wings to deliver ball out of defense. Kicking and or carrying the ball. Butler is also decent kick both sides of his body and can carry. His spot is shared with Nelson, who is his apprentice.

We have the best forward options in our clubs history IMO. But they cop so much crap ironically and unfairly because our midfield has been mostly bombing bandits. Which is therefore a personnel issue not in the forward line - but in the centre. And also coaching issue by playing the same plodding bomb squad players and/or accepting or coaching their bombing ways (if that's the strategy geez!!). Granted, with Nic Nat out we rarely see a clean centre break away from us.. But even when he was playing we get sharked way too often in the centre bounces. We need our mids to clear and or carry the ball to at least the front of the 50m line to draw out defenders and give our forwards space to lead and or compete without being double teamed. That's why Wellingham and Yeo (with Shuey-Sheed) should be there and we might have half a chance of busting out of centre bounces and scrums they mostly end up becoming. If no one comes to them they take inside 50 and shoot themselves. There goes your "predictability" and JK only focus. Which makes it easier for JK anyway too! They can't afford to scrag the ba-jesus out of him double teaming.

Our forward line has been structuring up well for mine. The issue has been we're getting toweled up for pace in the middle which is leading to slow-ass entries.

We seem reluctant to transition the ball from half back like we had over the last couple of years. Butler will release one of Wellers or Nelson, I think, and I think that's more important than swinging Gov. Duggan - assuming he's up to muster - will help with run and carry too.

Also, someone needs to tell Shep he's left his handbrake on.

Shep plays best if he cops a heavy knock to the face, then he wakes up. We should call him Joe Frazier.

Because of Nelson, Shep has been playing Butler's role from last year.

Shep was average most of last season and that wasn't because of Nelson.

We got career years out of Shep and Wellingham in 2015 and they gave us huge drive off HB with run and carry. They are both down (or have simply returned to their mean) and consequently we look one of the worst sides in transition since 2016 as we only seem to have the option to kick.

Firstly Yeo is starting to play great footy in a settled position. No way do we stuff him around like last season moving him around playing different roles.

Agree that being too predictable kicking inside our forward 50 doesn't help JK but last week we ignored his leads quite a few times in the first half. That's all good if the second KP forward is reliable and can take the heat. That's the problem here, Darling is struggling as our second KP forward. Last week we should cut him some slack because he rolled his ankle in the first 5 minutes but still soldiered on but we desperately need to find a way to get more out of both JK and Darling more consistently and most definately playing away from home.

Gov as our CHF and releasing Darling more would help three ways, JK would be better off, Darling as well and we also bring in a true lock down tall backman. Our back six are not tight enough IMO, we have Gov, Yeo, Barrass, Wellingham and Hurn all playing loose and looking to take intercept marks. That is not a balanced defense, its a loose defense and its bleeding too many goals. We need one lock down KP defender and we have two pretty decent ones playing WAFL.

Apparently darling will play with his injured ankle as our medicos guess it poses no risk of further damage.
Your thoughts on our medicos Scott?

I don't agree with moving the best CHB in the comp forward on a whim that it might work.

This is the match committee who took arguably our best ever small forward in his prime and on a whim decided he was a midfielder.. played him out of position for years! All but ruined the blokes career until they finally put him back where he belongs.

Don't often agree with Brad Hardie but he's made some decent points:
I can see why they played Jetta last week because they needed his leg speed on the open spaces of the MCG however, he didn't utilise it anywhere near enough.
...
If they're playing well in the reserves, they Eagles should give them a run of games in the side to build their confidence instead of bringing them in and out.

Next week we read:

" Darling out for Five as ankle takes longer than thought to heal ."

Sadly that's about how much faith I have in our Medicos .
