Have not been impressed with Redden since his move west. But i think he has been building nicely this year, while not dominating he has done some nice things, he tackles hard and i like his aggression, his disposal has been good he just needs to be more aggressive with his kicks which will come with confidence. Hopefully he keeps improving.

Can anyone confirm this, coz I never saw him get sent to Martin once. That still doesn't excuse the others who did **** all and have been quiet for most of the season. It also doesn't explain the inclusions, or the non rewarding of Sheeds WAFL form.
look i didn't get to watch the game properly last week so i won't comment on His game but he has always been that 22nd man in the squad. In a fairly contested style game 11 of reddens touches were contested and as a mid he won a fair few clearances which hutch didn't and he had a few tackles as well. Its common knowledge that hutch always need to perform a bit better than redden to keep his spot even if redden was rubbish. I also noticed the week before that redden stepped up when we needed to in the last. I don't think masto comes into the conversation cause he is a totally different type of player and hence one of redden and hutch had to go and both were line ball decisions.

Dropping Masten is stupid concidering we dropped another runner in jetta who kinda was average. I personally would have persisted with jetts but im not overly dissapointed by the dropping.

Agree on sheed tho.

we need more run this week so i wouldn't be surprised if yeo, nelson and wellingham go into the middle or a wing this game.

I'm not sure what Hutch was doing in that game he barely got any contested possessions and didnt register a clearance. If we are using him as an outside player there are better options. Anyone can play a lock down role. As for Masten the general consensus is he has been good so far this year it sounds like you just hate him. Redden got plenty of tackles and clearances plus more disposals than the 2 dropped. Sheppard is a defender so irrelevant.

Butler has obviously been brought in so we can move either Wellingham or Nelson up the ground.

Masten had one ok game, but has been shit in the others, and we've had many guys try the lock down role over the years with limited or no success. Hutch has been the best at it in the last few years. It's not irrelevant that Shep has been shit, we should be dropping guys out of form no matter where they play. Hutch can play more varied roles then Redden can, but everyone just loves to drop Hutch and Jetta so I'm not surprised that very few people think it's ridiculous to bring in an old defender who should be back up and a kid who hadn't played for two weeks. If anyone should have come in it should have been Sheed who had 37 possessions in the WAFL.

My favourite Facebook comment is the one that begins "My god why doesn't Simpson read our messages?" Because he's busy coaching the ******* team you clown.

Having said that I really don't get these changes. I like the selection of Butler which will hopefully release Wellingham further up the ground. I don't get the Duggan selection though, his form hasn't demanded selection unlike Sheed's.

It's an issue of player type. We need someone who can run and carry and deliver the ball which is not Sheeds skill set. While Duggan hadn't really earned his spot, he will probably go better than Jetta and we couldn't replace Jetts with another one paced inside mid.

That being said how Redden gets a game over Sheed is beyond me.

Masten had great first game at two ok-good games after than. Redden offers more as the 4th on baller and with no sheed he becomes pivotal. We areally dont have a second tier on baller or on ball devision so that 18 touches,11 clearances, 4 clearances and 6 tackles isn't too bad. Hutch's congestion work needs to be better tbh even if his work on the outside is better.

We'll have to disagree there Vish, Masten has been shit in two games and ok in one other for me, he just gets a free pass for some reason. Anyway it doesn't matter what we think, the MC has made its stupid decision as per usual and we just have to watch this team cruise around thinking they're heroes for making a GF a year or two ago. Ill leave you guys to discuss it ad nauseum.

Sorry but Masten has actually been pretty damn good this year, even Dark Sharks has been pumping his tyres.

i thought masto was good and ok v sainst and i think a lot of people who hate him also though similair. I watched the tigers game interrupted and few drinks in so not too sure.

* disclaimer watched this game while few drinks and while interrupted

surprised to see Gaff have 17 of 33 touches contested and have 7 clearances. I know many complained he was average on the weekend but its good to see Gaff have an influence when the game was no where near his terms and made a few inroads. He is not the type that will never look a flashy when its a heavily contested game but i would suspect if the rest of the team got up and took us home, gaff would have been commended as he played out of comfort zone and supported us through the middle when he hasn't in the past.

granted melb were poo then.. but this:

Shuey!!! Sheed, Duggan, Masten 's kicking! And what we should/could be capable of

That was when Gaff's kicking was elite as well. Last year we tend to bomb it long this year simmo wants us hitting targets but kicking so far has been poo. Hopefully in the coming weeks guys lik Gaff, duggan, sheed, shuey, mitch, masto and etc hit their straps. On paper we have a good kicking side.

I disagree, Redden,Shep, Masto were all worse, and Hutch at least kicked a goal, plus he can play a lock down role if needed. Jetta has speed and foot skills we can use. As I said before, Butler is a defensive bsck up and Duggan hasn't played for two weeks, nor was he in great form when he did play. It's a stupid decision by our MC which is now becoming renowned for strange decisions.
How has Butler's form been in the WAFL?

We were killed by a smaller, faster forward line last week and Butler helps address that.

Duggan is fresh after being the travelling emergency last week and replaced an ineffective Jetta who lacks intent and work rate.

Nothing baffling about that really.

Before you melt just wait for the late changes. I think Simpson has a surprise change and reshuffle for tonight coming.

What exactly does Hutch provide over Redden and Masten?

For the team, Redden is 2nd for tackles, 3rd for centre clearances and 4th for clearances on limited game time.

Masten is averaging 25 touches per game and has been handy in-front of goal when the opportunity arises.

Hutch is only averaging 16 touches per game and not providing much else. He can play a lock-down role, but he hasn't been. Fair enough if he's a specialised tagger, but that's not the role he's been playing. I can see why he's been dropped. With Sheed playing so well in the WAFL too, he's unlikely to be back anytime soon.

Really glad to see Duggan in the team, hopefully he cements his place there. Super important player for us.

Lewis Jetta - Put a line through that name for the rest of the year...

This is 100% accurate

Must be reading our posts here on BF.

I've been saying this needs to be done this year now we have multiple quality options / depth playing WAFL.

Yeo and Barrass are great intercept marks in defense, you don't need three of them, that's poor defensive balance, we do need one tall who locks down on the oppositions more dangerous tall forward.

Playing Vardy, Kennedy and McGovern forward is a nightmare for the opposition. Darling plays the roaming HFFer and rests in a pocket when Vardy rucks and Giles hits the bench.

Just do it Simo FFS!!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

Are you Tim Carrier?

Bad jokes aside, the situation described there is due to Darling / Vardy et al having no influence on the game forward. Or at the very least not enough to draw a tall defender away from Kennedy. If you take that as a personnel issue, the by all means, McGovern forward. But if you're like me, and think it is a coaching issue, then Turbo's not going to help the situation.

Why do I think it is a coaching issue? Pretty much every zone entry focuses on Kennedy's movement. Lacking Naitanui or Lycett forward, Darling is often the man attempting the block. Hill plays for the misdirected kick. Cripps tries to crumb but doesn't seem to get the positions right. Hungry hungry Lecras is usually the decoy or second lead.

And it's that predictable. It works most of the time because LeCras and Kennedy are really good players. But Simmo and whoever the forwards coach is at the moment really need to get the team to stop using Kennedy as the focal point, as we're worse than any other good team at being one-dimensional.

He always harps on about Gov swinging forward...Now that Barrass has come on and Emac is a lot better than last year plus we have Schoey who is more than capable down back we have the troops to do this!

If we are playing a team where we need the extra defender i feel we need to drop a ruckman.

How the **** haven't we seen a plan B to "kick it to Kennedy" when he has two or three blokes on him and he can't get anywhere near it?

Is it a problem that noone else in the forward line is standing up or is it a coaching issue?
