Yep. Has Webb was our 2nd best player in any game, like he did in that loss to Geelong first time round? That was one of three times he was in our best 8 players in a 4-game period, according to AFL Player Ratings Points.

There are preconceptions surrounding Jong's games that people simply can't dismiss. Like how because how people he has athleticism, but doesn't always use it, somehow equates to playing a poor game? That's just an illogical process of thought. If anything, his lack of use of his athleticism has actually helped his game - he used to take the game on, and be fumbly and put teammates in worse positions with disposal, after he tried to use his pace. People will find any reason to criticise him.

Webb had 6 kicks and 3 tackles across the 2 games he played. That is an extremely poor return. It is simply illogical and biased to suggest that wasn't worse than all but maybe one of Jong's games for the year.
It's unbelievable how critical of Jong people are. Some bang on about how good Suckling is (which he can be) but Jong has actually played good games for us (not Hawthorn) in big games. F*** me, if the rest of the team had had Jongy's 50% goal conversion rate in the EF last year we would have won the f'ing thing. And no it wasn't Roberts fault either, but conversion in front of goal that ultimately cost us. He's played well in big games against quality opposition away from home. He has some runs on the board and is deserving of a bit better. Libba, Wallis and Macrae could well all be gone. Who's left, the Bont on his own to do the heavy lifting. We're gonna need Jongy and Stevens (both fringe) for the rest of the year including finals. I wish them every success.

Last week Jong was putrid. Absolutely putrid. One of the worst games I've ever seen from any player.

Because that is still recent, and his most recent game was just ok nothing special, people are digging into him more than usual.

He shows good signs and has potential, and has played some great games. But he needs to do that again, now, rather than just being a passenger or actively hurting the side like he has recently.

Know this will be unpopular, but I would consider playing Boyd on the ball and keeping Adcock. Rat is not yet ready for the full time mid role, Dahl and Clay are still adapting and Dunks still green. Need some grunt and experience in there
I'm thinking Boyd to return the midfield now.

Colourful adjective aside TT, was it any worse than Suckling's? I'd agree that Jongs first half last week was bad. His second half however was OK and at times good when the team was 2 rotations down. Libba was a non event the whole game (we can reasonably guess why but it doesn't alter the fact). The board tends not to be very even handed with Jong. He's not a superstar but few are despite the commentators labelling of all and sundry. He played very well in last year's EF and has played well several times against good opposition interstate in wins we all remember. He's going to get more opportunity and we'll need him in finals.

Holy shit the Norf Board are ******* pathetic, read their changes thread for our game, disgraceful

Lets win just to shut that pathetic excuse of a supporter base up, piss poor form, some of the biggest bunches of chips on their shoulders from that lot

Might be time to bump that build a bridge thread, they still haven't gotten over Bont

Trawl ate fast saw
Thought would be. The guy needs a rest

Predictable isn't it. Play a ruck short for most of the season, expect them to get hammered every week by two opponents, then watch your rucks go down with injury and exhaustion one by one. Hawthorn, Sydney, Eagles, Giants, Cats, North all play multiple rucks to share to load, because they know it's a 22 round season. Really hope Bev and the MC have a good think about this strategy next year.

It was worse than sucklings yes.

But you missed the point of my post. I agree with you. I'm saying because he's already a bit of a scapegoat here, and he's played a very bad game recently, he's getting much more hate than usual.

But like you said, he has played very good games. He needs to show that now though, not a year ago. Because at the moment the Jong playing currently is a shadow of the Jong that played in that elimination final last year. He's capable of it but needs to get back there, and can't keep coasting off some good games a while ago.

I'd like him to show more agro tbh as he seems like a quiet guy who gets pushed around a bit. ironically he got rubbed out for 2 weeks ( unfairly IMO), but someone other than a Stringer and Libba needs to step up and show a bit of mongrel.

I don't know that he's coasting but rather trying, as all players do from time to time, to recapture 4 quarter form (and we have more than 1 player in that category at the moment although I don't dispute the effort of this particular list generally). Perhaps it's as much an if and when with some (clearly not all). I'm very much the when he puts the 4 together not if and it'd be good to see that from norf onwards given our state. I don't think we're far apart on this TT.

Well the norf board think bont will get "payback" after his comments post last game.

And the theme is making fun of the sogs being brave with injuries. Some of their comparisons between our outs and theirs are laughable to say the least

Desperately hoping Minson comes back in. Not sure what he has done to get on the wrong side of the match committee but their determination to keep overlooking him has cost the team dearly.

Bringing in Hrovat and Webb seems a no brainer from the VFL reports. I would also like to see Bailey Dale come back in.

Depending on other player availability, I think that Clay Smith needs to go back to the VFL this week. He has been quite poor for the last two matches. Unfortunately he also seems to be one of those players that can do no wrong in the eyes of many. I see that some posters are calling for Adcock to be dropped despite him playing a very solid game. If he had turned in a performance like Smith did, people would not only be calling for him to be dropped but for him to never be picked again.

The experiment of Hamling as a key forward was also a bust on Friday. Like many others, I think we need to play Boyd predominantly up forward, hence the importance of bringing Minson back in.

If Boyd,Suckling aren't right as Bevo alluded too. Sounds like Dale will be. Give Toby another week for match fitness.Hrovat unlucky. Jong just holds place because of no Libba,Macrae or Wallis so need his contest. Need two rucks with Boyd staying more forward as good as he was last week IMO.Hamling didn't show enough as forward.
