Without going into specifics, my job involves me being a subject matter expert and clients paying me for professional advice.

On more than one occasion I’ve been asked to sign off on things that were questionable at best. In some cases they could have led to endangerment of life. There was pressure applied to give things the all clear to save time and to save budget, which of course I did not - And insisted on things being done properly to ensure safe outcomes. Port's treatment of players with head injuries, and their response to this latest saga reeks of the exactly same thing.

My point is, these kind of things don't happen by accident. No doubt this incident, and others in Port's recent past relating to head injuries, indicate a culture of pushing for win at all costs at the expense of less safe outcomes. In this case concussed players being put at elevated risk of serious long term health problems. I'd be very surprised if the experienced doctor had not received any systematic pressure whether communicated on the night or implied through the culture of the football club.

This almost certainly goes deeper than just the doctor, who they are now trying to throw under the bus to get themselves off the hook and take the focus off their own ingrained cultural issues of not taking player welfare seriously. Koch potting Mayes' partner this morning was insensitive and another terrible sign for how seriously they treat this issue, even after all that has happened over the last few days he still couldn't resist. Disgraceful.

Wow 5AA in full protection mode now.

Rowe's opened the show with full credit to Port, boxes have been ticked CDs been great, Koch's been great. Why are the AFL taking so long, it's Wednesday.

Then read out the Tweet from Sam Mayes partner, had a rant about her using social media and it being horrible which basically ended with him saying she's not helping anyone before yelling "Shut up!"
No doubt Cos Cardone had a word.

Dance Rowey Dance.

Port puppets having a go at Mayes partner reminds me of Essendon having a go Kyle Reimers. How dare she give insight into what happened at Port…

Doc must have forgotten a few of these points I think.
That's actually the World Medical Association's Declaration of Geneva, not the Hippocratic Oath.
There's no legal compulsion to take either oath though and many medical schools don't enforce it

However, I hear in the induction to Port Adelaide, new staff and players are given a tour, history lesson, read the Creed and are made to take the Hypocritical Oath.

Not at all surprised the boys club at Port got to the Adelaide media. Can only mean that bigger sanctions are coming more than a fine and are prepping Adelaide media for all the it's us against the world type calls they'll be getting. All this does is give Sam Mayes and his partner more reason to sue.

Some of his sponsors / advertisers are PORT supporters ......thou shall not upset the money people

Trust me, this is the angle 5AA are coming from

I don't think the clubs need to lean on Rowe. He's always been a "club guy" whose first instinct is to back the clubs in all circumstances unless the evidence against them in overwhelming, and even then declare it a storm in a teacup.

There's a reason he's lasted nearly two decades in a prime time radio role. The clubs know he will always have their backs.

And the same argument can be made about this doctor. Chances are that the club didn't have to lean on the doctor to turn a blind eye here... rather, they will have chosen to employ the kind of doctor who will do that naturally.

The real question the AFL should be asking Port here is why the same doctor is still in place, going through the same process and making the same errors as the last time they got fined. Why didn't that fine do anything to prevent the same situation occurring again?

The first time, Port could blame the doctor for making a bad call. But if it keeps happening? At that point you've made a conscious decision to retain this guy and give him authority over player safety, despite him demonstrating he shouldn't be trusted with it.

I caught a bit of 5AA on the way home last night, they were talking about this issue. One of the ads they ran was for a mob looking for volunteers to participate in migraine research. Same ad again this morning. Did LOL.
Any truth to the rumours Jones has already signed up...

Yes the longer this plays out the more I get the feeling there is more to this than just a Doctors bad call. Here's hoping the AFL really do want to investigate this fully.
The AFL protect everybody but at least they'll do the pantomime so that every club knows it's not ok.

What did Koch say about Mayes partner?

Because I would have thought the people shitting their dacks the most would be the directors

Ports an employer and if the board knew there were unsafe work practices, they’re on the hook personally.

When Rowe interviewed Carr yesterday he asked him 'were you surprised that Aliir came back onto the field' and his response was something along the lines of 'what are you trying to do here Rowey, get me to slip up or something?'.

It clearly touched a massive nerve.
And then the Advirtiser posted this story today about how Carr smashed Rowey in the interview and put him back in his place... yeah because that is the big story that they should be focusing on and not the actual story about Port putting their players in danger by ignoring the concussion protocols 🙄

Absolutely.

I wonder if some high up people at Port believe the hysteria around concussions is way over the top and that the health effects are overblown. Which then flows down

Well said, but I feel it goes deeper than systemic pressure. You only have to look at the manner and timing to just how quick Aliir was thrown back out onto the ground and the outright insane attempt to manipulate the concussion procols by claiming Jones was not subbed off with concussion. The Doctor on his own back would not do that, let alone do it multiple times in the past. The anger from ex Port players who suffer from concussion symptoms indicate this is not simply a result of a doctor making mistakes.

The only reason Port are throwing the doctor under the bus is smoke and mirrors.

1. If the Doctor takes the fall, they won't suspend a Dr because Port can argue how dare you argue with a Dr when you aren't Drs. The old Covid Marshall hide behind the Dr.
2. If they do this long enough, loud enough and they ensure the dr is well looked after as to have no leaks, the AFL will have no choice but believe the Dr did it and put to rest a possible investigation into this being a club strategy which would open the door into club wide sanctions and punishments.

Make no mistake, this is and always has been a club strategy. Everyone knows it, the AFL know it. The problem is the AFL dont want to admit it has a rogue club by making such a determination.

What the AFL need to do is force Port out into the open. the clever strategy here would be to dish out the punishments that make Port upset enough they look to appeal or threaten court action. Which if this happens the AFL lawyers can remind Port that the onus would be on Port to prove this is Dr error. The interesting thing would be just to see how quick they take the sanctions. Make no mistake, I think they will whinge and complain but but they wont take it any further.

This is a strategy, they are the only club with what seems to be continued dumb luck when it comes to players never having concussion on match day.

These interviews from Koch, Carr and Davies have unwittingly exposed Port. For a club crying 'woe is us, drs fault' there is an unusual amount of thought going on as to what they say and how carefully they say it. No doubt through a lawyer whose schooling them on what to say. Carr alone slipped up with that comment and frankly Rowie is so piss weak he should have ripped Carr a new one. Penberthy wouldnt have copped that shit response. This is the issue with some in the Adelaide media. They allow both clubs to get away with a lot in interviews.

Implies that there is something to hide as well. If he was already being honest what is there to slip up with
