Maybe but you need to determine if the coach had any part in the decision. What I mean is did the doc tell him that a test was not warranted, and did he say I believe AFL protocols should be taken. Head of football for sure. Are the AFL players association having any input into this? They will be vocal on any concussion litigation on future cases.

Is it out of the realms of possibility that Port and the AFL are desperately trying to control the media narrative before announcing punishment. They feed information out to media partners, then try to gauge public reaction, then craft a sanction so that Port are mad that it was too heavy and everyone else is made because it is blatantly insufficient?

Does that sound plausible or does it sound made up?

In any case a $20k fine has already happened so it's more than that. $50k would seem insufficient.... But $100k with 50k suspended can be spun as a $100k fine which seems big, but is really an insufficient $50k.View attachment 1763093

Plausible?
It's literally the AFL system they use on every single issue.
They wait to see if the media grabs it, then they feed the media what they want, then they gauge public opinion, then they come out with a ruling.

The AFL are consistently about one thing - public relations.

“Absolutely it has been a tough week for the club, we have had some issues that we would much rather not have had but they are being dealt with the best they can possibly be dealt with,” he said on Thursday morning.

“On reflection Mark has said he should have done the full test.

“It is a big mistake, but nobody sets out to make a mistake in anything we do particularly as a doctor he has done great service for this footy club for a long time.”

Dr Fisher will travel with the Power to Geelong to take on the Cats.

Hinkley said he still had full faith in him.

“I think that is a really tough question to be throwing out. Do we lack trust in Mark Fisher? No we don’t,” he said.

“He said he got it wrong and I think we should be able to look back at the runs he has on the board, he has done a lot of good things in his profession that we should give him some respect for.”

Runs on the board? I'm sorry, wtaf?

I'm amazed the doctor is letting them put all of this on him.

Yes, but apart from Aliir, and Jones, and Butters, and Jonas, and Mayes, and Hartlett, and Ebert, he's been great.

2 last year and Hartlett a few years ago. Poort are clearly the WORST at following protocols. As Crowey said the other night if Crows got fined a ridiculous 50k for taking masks off on flight then this incident should be a MULTIPLE of that, perhaps 200-500k, in terms of seriousness

It is obvious that, in circumstances where a doctor may be overwhelmed (omg two players instead of one!), the obvious approach is to be overly conservative, not the other way around.
They’ve never had a problem keeping me waiting. Even if I’m the first one for the day 😆

Its interesting reading when the AFL signed off on last years knock between Jonas and Butters, how prominent the role Chris Davies played

Hinkley stressed he had full faith in club doctor Mark Fisher and football manager Chris Davies, who were on the bench as the two bloodied players left the field.

"I have a doctor who has been with our footy club for 25 years and the conversation between our doctor and our football manager (Davies) ... was these boys, they have no issue with concussion," Hinkley said post-match.

What was Chris Davies view on Saturday night, seeing as he seems to be integral in making these decisions?

"So if anyone has a challenge on that, and they feel more qualified than Mark Fisher ... feel free.

"But I think you need to be really, really sure, that you're not trying to umpire or make some calls from outside the fence when you have no knowledge.

"Do you think a doctor of 25 years would take a risk with concussion, with the seriousness of the injuries that go on now with concussion?"

No I don't, but here we are ...
