I have to confess that I sent an email to the club tonight, asking them to cancel the automatic rollover on 3 memberships that I pay for.

My financial support shouldn't be taken for granted, and I want to see what unfolds over the coming couple of months.

Did you happen to catch the article this week on the AFL website taken from an interview with the head of the football department Brad Lloyd.
That a key player in the football club serves up that kind of garbage in the days following the butchered season where a premiership was on offer is quite bewildering if not disturbing.
Keen to see the follow up from the board/executive after the pledge given by the president in his latest letter to members …

No, I didn't catch it. Probably just as well.

he's a liability imo.

Let me say this in no uncertain terms.

I am beyond angry with this football club

We have a slew of highly conditional footballers on this list (I have written about 3 of them recently y in this thread) so what do we do?

We advise one of the few who refuse to take a backwards step and consistently gives it their all, from most reports I've seen is well liked by the playing group, etc. that he's free to look for a new club

Until this football club makes the difficult decision to no longer accept conditional footballers on its list and to promote players who are culture positive we have no chance.

Whoever's decision this was needs to GAGF.

I think you know the core of this one wick. Friction.... Sides were picked.... One party was pushed the other wasn't...

Dude, I'm not even angry - like I would normally be frothing at the gills, but this just makes me sick in the guts.
So if they claim to be making the tough calls, the height of hypocrisy is keeping Fantasia on the list.

EDIT: One last thing. From all the hype over the last few months, those Camporeale boys better be absolute magicians, because the hordes have put sooo much stock in them.

If we dont absolutely crush it on the trade table and draft, there is going to be some heads on spikes outside of Princes Park.

Strong sense that the club will make a bunch of list management decisions that will be the beginning of the end for this list’s window.

Can you provide more info on this issue you're referring to? Feel free to PM if you don't want it in public so to speak.

On the one hand I kinda get it. Kennedy just a victim of having too many similar types on the list - if you're going to trim one out of Cripps, Cerra, Hewitt and Kennedy in the hope injecting more run its probably him. But yeah on the other it's a pretty bad look especially considering the way things played out in the last game, as Wickzki said you at least know he's gonna put in every week. Potential to cause some consternation within the locker room for sure.

But the real head-scratcher for mine is Owies being told he's free to pursue deals with other clubs too? Not perfect I know but the bloke just kicked 33 goals, our only goal kicking small/mid forward who looks remotely AFL standard currently. What, we're just hoping against hope that Motlop and Durdin come good? WTF is going on :drunk:

Carlton trading away draft picks for elite players is annoying, I cannot tell BF about which players I WOULD HAVE picked in the draft for years to come!
Weird take. Some of us may just think we are oversubscribed on “elite” talent. We have too much of the salary cap tied up in too few players already for mine. No desire to quit on any of them, but continuing to exacerbate the issue makes little sense.

Our coaches are too reliant on the obvious and are reticent to be creative with the list. When those last two roster games demanded “desperate measures” they were shown the bona fides of some players they did not rate as ready or able, and some in unfamiliar roles who proceeded to thrive.

We don’t have a Dan Houston clone coming through, but do have a handful of players capable of meaningful roles in the back half or between the arcs. Probably a couple who could be small forward options as well, who have not been tried their in their time at the club (Biyd, Binns)

This is the Chicken Little Thread, I am allowed to be a chicken little :p

On a side note, my only issue with Houston and personally the only negative is the allocation of cap space towards such a player. I can jump on board those arguments, but nothing else makes sense to me.

On one hand, I appreciate that when the thing that causes players to be injured is no longer happening, we should have less injuries. On completely the other, I take genuine ****ing issue with the reality that before the elimination final we had an injury list a good 10 players long where right now - as of the 13/9 - there are only two players receiving surgery in Corey Durdin and Charlie Curnow and no other injuries in ****ing sight.

Were I willing to wear a tinfoil hat, I'd look at the arcane coincidence that aligns holiday period with perfect list fitness levels.

You don’t go in for surgery with hammies, calfs, abductors and heart strings

Thanks to Bletch, this was the state of play as per week of first final, who else should have gone in for surgery that wasn’t punted already?

2024 has certainly been an interesting ride

From the coaches, list, development, club, etc, are in a great/best position, to the complete opposite late in the season, to now back to being in the best position ever, again

Strangely, with a number of durable types departing, (and thankfully some injury prone ones too), but with the inclusion 1, 30+ year old and couple off 18 year old kids incoming, supposedly our list will be better in 2025

I stopped listening to anything coming out of the club over the off-season after the 2022 debacle, actively avoid it.

Talk, talk, talk... it's pointless. Show us.

Supporters are saying with a 30+ year old and couple off 18 year old kids incoming, our list will be better in 2025?

News to me, seems optimistic lol
Not that a chicken little thread is for analysis.

The list profile of our starting 28 or so players is in a good place.
Not many over the hill people, plenty of kids starting to hit their prime years.

I'm not as bullish, Cripps still absolutely carries us and is 30 start of the season next year. But its more the mental aspect imo, pretty fair sample size now that we just can't put it together across a full year or deal with expectation when we look like we should get something done, whether it be making finals or finishing top 4. I think '25 will be more of the same unfortunately, we'll put together a decent month or 2 of footy at some stage, everyone gets excited, they'll finish top 4 etc, before falling in a heap again. Outside an absolute dream injury run with no stars going down and 90% of the rest available for most of the year I just can't see it happening.

Who would you have as the kids starting to hit their prime years just out of interest?

Cripps is in the perfect window.

Walsh, Cerra, Curnow, Harry, Weitering, TDK, Kemp - They're hitting that sweet spot in age.

Cerra/Walsh/TDK - Those are three players that had interrupted preseasons or seasons.
Those are three names that have potential to be top 50 players in the AFL.

Holland(s), Motlop and Cowan have growth along with a Moir.

The only real player that may be trending downwards in our starting 22 is Newman.

Just got that nice spread of players at all ages and most of the core is in that sweet spot 24-30 range.

See that's the thing, our fitness side of things being an absolute shambles was the primary reason for that fall. When we managed things better, we had a better run last year, even when we were gassed in the PF we were super competitive. In contrast to this year where half the list was practically hobbling around.

If we can get that fixed, we will go deep. The one big question though is that if it was a taxing gameplan that created the issue in the first place. Because no matter who's working on fitness and conditioning, if our gameplan is too hard on their bodies, they're gonna taper off at the end of the year.
