That is true to some degree but you surely must see that the reason many many Port supporters are on here defending our club's fantastic bold move is because we are, as predicted, being absolutely abused and denigrated by jealous clubs and Crows Ambassadors. At least on here we can have our response, and yes the oppo and some press read this and many such as Snooping Crow are lurking. And yes we have a right to laugh at them and respond a bit. it will die down I am sure.
If you want to go and start slap fights on other boards, feel free, but don't drag it back here for a pat on the head.

So Chinese brides would never wear white?

I feel sorry for these dead Chinese sailors, seems they don't realise they are dead;

:)

The difference is that we are trying to ingratiate ourselves into someone else's culture. Brides wear white in China because they want a Western style wedding. Sailors wear white in China because blue and white are traditional naval colours. Same with their national teams. They already have a presence in China - we are trying to establish one.

Once we do that, we can wear whatever colour we want. But just in this embryonic stage, if we want to attract the maximum audience possible, it makes sense to switch to teal, IMO.

Heard this on ABC radio this morning;

Port Adelaide's Chinese investor keen on Kidman land deal and other business opportunities

"If he does become the owner of the Kidman properties, and he's a clear supporter of the Australian football culture, that would go a long way I think to muting criticism of that sort of purchase," Dr Groot [Adelaide University's head of Asian Studies] said.

"As we know, land purchases in Australia are very political."
I did a uni course with Dr Groot a few years ago. He talked a lot about the power of Asian soft power such as Japanese video games, cartoons ect. If this partnership works we could see Australian soft power influencing Asia. That has got to be good for the nation.

I don't pretend to be an expert on Chinese culture but I do understand that, like many Asian cultures, there are deeply ingrained superstitions the origins of which date back many thousand years. My understanding from my Chinese colleagues (I am part of a global team with colleagues in Shanghai and other Chinese cities) is that while these superstitions are very strong among rural peasants they are quite weak to non-existent among the younger adults of the burgeoning middle class.

Who is more likely to become a fan of AFL footy in China, and aging peasant still following the same traditions that their family has followed for thousands of generations or a young upwardly mobile urban middle class person who is increasingly embracing Western values?

Your reservations on colour indicate that your belief is that it is the former.

It is a very good feeling to see our club becoming the PAFC of old again! We have always been innovators, leaders but this is a huge move. This is just the public face and the start of a long journey, expect them to come at us for all angles. The AFL and governments, both state and fed know full well the importance of a deal like this as does anyone with half a brain.

A vic club would jump at it.

you'd be saying:
give us max 4 other away interstate games (average would be somehwere between 5 and 6 without a compromised draw).
give us another 'home' game from a membership perspective
give us a guaranteed payment of 500k, 1 mil whatever

from that you have no risk, you dont lose games in melbourne because you eliminate a potential 1 or 2 away games, and you gain exposure.

saying your club wouldn't do that is just doing it to spite port.

mmm nah, I'm pretty sure you and all the other TPFPers will continue to shit this place up daily with Crow related posts long after this dies down.

TPFP"rs ?

Nah, actually my belief is that it's best to not give anyone a reason not to reject us. If our Chinese staff don't see a problem with it, great. I'd rather wear the white. But I'm just saying that if they decide to go down the teal path to reach as many people as possible - especially knowing that those same peasants are the ones sending their kids to school to participate in Auskick programs - I'll understand it.

But these peasants won't be sending their kids to Auskick anyway. I agree a predominately white uniform may be a put off to them but they would never even get as far as considering the colour of the uniform.

Obviously a reminder is necessary: It is against the forum rules to take posts from one board and post them here without authorisation of the author.

Lets not worry about what other people are saying about this. We didn't do this to get recognition from Crows/Other clubs fans.

Well done PAFC, this is such an aggressive but well thought out move which hopefully serves as a template for future moves to other markets. Even if you tap into only the smallest percentage of the Chinese sporting market you will have come out on top. With that being said, watched 360 last night and as switched on as he obviously is, Kochie is a bit of a knob jockey

Well then it's not a problem is it :)

I realised I haven't commented on this yet.

It's an incredible opportunity for the club and it's clear that a lot of effort has been put in. This is certainly a long term strategy but we're already seeing some immediate impact and benefits. I can't help but be excited, we're promoting our game internationally which opens so many doors and potential revenue streams.

I'm not bothered by the haters, they're gonna hate and their reasoning is typical of those who fear change and/or Port Adelaide being successful. **** them.

Also, I'm tiring of reading the Crows shitposting in this thread, I'll be deleting those posts if they continue.
