Traded Chris Yarran [to Richmond for Pick 19]

Yesterday you were saying 19 wasn't a first round pick and wasn't good enough.

Just another case of Carlton moving the goalposts in this trade.

Richmond didn't 'win' the trade...I think 19 was on the high side of fair, but it's near enough.

Carlton lost the trade though in the sense that them repeatedly moving the goalposts before blinking and taking the pick that 'wasn't good enough' makes them a laughing stock.
If trading out a player who had walked out on the club, who had been dropped twice that year, didn't make their best players in one game that year and has a history of poor attitude and performance for a top 20 draft pick is a loss.. I'd love to see what you consider a win.

Regardless of what SOS said in the media, I bet he is very happy with what he received

You have to laugh .... Predictably a lot have done a 360 turn around from their viewpoint before the trade. According to some Richmond, Yarran is now possibly the greatest footballer of all time and 19 was a steal. According to some Carlton fans, 19 has always been a first round pick and SOS and the forum never stated that they would not accept anything less than pick 12. They would gladly have him back at Carlton because he will be unstopable in 2016.

I enjoyed the ride this thread has produced though.

I don't think a 360 degree turn around is what you think it is.

I'm hoping small forward...high half forward. You've seen more of him...what do you think?
I'll just chip in here too. The best I've seen Yarran play is at half back when a zone defence was very popular. Teams usually zone an area within 70m of the ball carrier, but Yarran can move the ball 100m very quickly. Lead to some easy goals with Carlton forwards running back & no-one between them & the goals.
If zoning keeps making a comeback maybe HBF is the place to play him.

The loss had nothing to do with the player, it was a matter of how it was done. The deal was near enough, but the cost to Carlton's credibility from repeatedly shifting the goalposts and then blinking at the end makes it a loss for them.

Ideally we would have hoped for more just as Richmond would have liked him for less.

I think an outside club supporter will see this as a fair deal. Yarran is what the tigers need and will be great for them. Hopefully someone like Gresham or Partington is available at 19 for us to give us a solid midfielder to add to our rebuilding list.

He should be happy. It was a win/win, if not slightly in Carlton's favour for his worth.
Both clubs should be happy with the result.
But he made the dealings a painful process for no reason.

Pick 19 is a fair deal, I know it, you know it and I'm sure SOS knows it... All he was doing is trying to see if Richmond would blink and trade overs, they didn't and fair play to them... If Carlton had accepted unders, then you could make the case SOS folded... It's a negotiating tactic.

My opinion earlier in the thread was that pick 19 was fair and reasonable, Carlton got a decent pick for their rebuild and traded a player who didn't want to be there, Richmond got some speed and goal kicking ability (up to us to get the best out of Chris as his best is very good).

Thats what we have been saying the whole ****ing two weeks.
19 is fair or even slightly overs because of his attitude. Yet we have been told by Blues supporters that no, no, no he is worth 12.

But SOS overplayed that hand mate and missed on on Tomlinson. Mackay admitted as much. Said the yarran deal took to long so they ran out of time.

so maybe next time, now that he knows we won't pay overs, he will stop dicking everyone around and just do a fair trade???

Some Blues fans are saying he's worth 12 yes, just like some Tigers fans are saying he's worth 31 + McBean or something like that... Supporters aren't objective and some only want to see things from their teams perspectives

Hahahaha ! Touche.I only joined this forum about one week ago and already feel like I'm getting dumber.

It's ok, at least you didn't double down on it like someone else who shall remain nameless. ;)
