Traded Chris Yarran [to Richmond for Pick 19]

Wouldn't pay anything higher the pick 20 for yarran. Anything higher is delusional unless there's another player or picks included each way. Don't rate him as a player at all.

Shit this thread is cringe worthy.
I'm not a huge fan of Yarran, in fact he annoys the crap out of me but the fact remains that when he pulls his head out of his own arse he can be a bloody damaging player. Whether he can maintain focus long enough to make the most of his ability is anyone's guess and it'll be something for the Tigers or whoever decides to recruit him to think long and hard about.
His best footy is worth a first rounder and his worst is probably beneath VFL standard, which does make it hard to place a value alongside his name which is inevitably why people fans opinions of him are so varied.
Possibly the greatest post by a Blues man. 100% sanity in appraisal.
Raw. Honest. Completely free of bullsh1t.
You, sir, are a fine man. I dips me lid.

Matthew Richardson was asked about Ben Lennon tonight. He was asked a Yes / No whether he was staying.

Basically paused when asked. Said Yes, but then said he didn't know and most likely he will be at Carlton for Yarran.
I think you'll find that we'll trade Lennon if it helps to improve our list, but it won't have anything to do with the Yarran trade

Im willing to do a straight swap for yarran and give carlton relton Roberts but that is as good as we are going to offer

Yarran is like a Maserati. Everyone goes "wow, thats awesome" when you see it go by, but gee, they are unreliable. Thats why Porsche and Ferrari's are worth more. But the Maserati is still worth more than a Commodore or a Falcon.

Richmond epic fail looming.

Yarran not traded to any club and kept for another year - Lennon walks to Carlton through PSD.

That would be Epic failure
Henderson to Cats for 2nd rounder
Yarran to Richmond for 2nd rounder
Bell to Brisbane for 3rd rounder

Carlton get Adcock in the PSD as no other players left
This is a real knighmare - Thats a real possability

I have no Doubt that Yarran will become a much better player at Richmond than he ever was at Carlton - All Players Get better when they take off that terrible jumper and Facts just dont lie

Grigg,Betts,Garlett,Waite,Jacobs,Kennedy - Next will be Yarran
*jesus you could almost build a premiership team around these names*

Do not know where Yarran is going. Do not really care. As long as traded for sensible pick or players rather than the nonsense done before of nothing for Mitch Robinson and bugger all for Garlett, Laidler, Waite and Betts I will be somewhat satisfied.

Browsed a small portion of this thread. For the most part it reads mainly Carlton and Richmond fans both being stupid.
I would think there is a fair chance Yarran would be happy to be traded to West Coast and play with his close mate Nick Nat.
If Carlton and Eagles can find suitable deal could be win win for everyone. Although Lewis Jetta also wants to head back to Perth based club too. Unlikely but a three way swap between Swans, Eagles and Carlton could find a deal done in some way too.

The value of Yarran is going to vary greatly for each fan but his best is an elite user of ball and at fast pace to carry the ball all over the ground. His worst is he is out of gas and pays no attention to the play in front of him. Not good enough to be a first rounder I would think.
However AFL have a system they rank all 800 odd players on AFL club lists. Yarran is listed at number 110. Make of that what you will. In trading it gives a clue of where he should probably be valued in his standing in the league overall. His age, recent form (trend) and years left in game will clearly come into it also.

In the small/defender category you will find him at no 12 below here:
Rating, Player, Position, Trend, Points
33 Easton Wood Small/Medium Defender no-change 476.8
46 Brodie Smith Small/Medium Defender down-fast 461.3
56 Robert Murphy Small/Medium Defender no-change 446
60 Shaun Burgoyne Small/Medium Defender up 443.1
79 Nick Malceski Small/Medium Defender no-change 419.3
81 Matthew Boyd Small/Medium Defender up 412.8
84 Heath Shaw Small/Medium Defender up 407.6
91 Grant Birchall Small/Medium Defender down 400.2
93 Shannon Hurn Small/Medium Defender up 397.9
105 Kade Simpson Small/Medium Defender no-change 389.4
107 Corey Enright Small/Medium Defender no-change 388.6
110 Chris Yarran Small/Medium Defender down 385.5
123 Elliot Yeo Small/Medium Defender up 376.6
132 Marley Williams Small/Medium Defender no-change 369

Fair point, all those players were proven finals performers at Carlton...except grigg

99 pages of talk about someone apparently only worth a 2nd rounder, mostly Richmond supporters beating their chests.

You can really smell their desperation.

1st rounder or swap for a best 22 player thanks.

Adding Yarran to our list is going the way of the Terry Wallace days. Lightweight speedster squibs may add a flash of brilliance once or twice a year, but won't give you the output needed when finals time hits. Hawthorn, Fremantle and West Coast can sustain the addition of flashy types because they have plenty of big bodied, wide chested, tough ball winners. We've got bugger all.

If Lennon is the answer to the trade, Carlton will end up being the big winners of that deal.

Do you seriously consider losing one player who's played a handful of games to be an 'Epic failure'? Here's a reality check for you sunshine...

How about sacking your $1M head COACH, squandering the talents of your $1M elite PLAYER and then coming DEAD LAST on the AFL ladder - all in the space of 23 weeks.

FFS your club didn't have the decency to match a 500K offer by Adelaide to retain Eddie Betts, yet you offer that to a second year unproven player?

Please do come again your fanciful posts are entertaining if not cringe worthy.

C'mon Jet; let's be realistic here. When Yarran pulls his finger out, he is VERY good for a ten minute patch of a quarter two times a game.

Will improve at a better club with a better player list. But let's not get carried away; at Carlton he has been disappointing if not average over years of his work. Wasted pick for us and explains the foul mood Wayne Hughes was in when he left that draft day with Hurley gone a pic before him. Forced a grimace as a smile on camera.

On our side, Richmond still need a poor man's version of Rioli as that is all that is available.
I am being realistic, the main selling point with Yarran is that dreaded word, potential.
Blokes like Lennon, Aish and Menzel can maintain their value despite not necessarily setting the world on fire with their performances because they have youth to go with their flashes of brilliance, Yarran on the other hand is soon to be 25, at some point (read soon), consistency will have to find a place in his game otherwise he'll risk being another case of unfulfilled potential.
If a club were to get the best out of him then he's definitely worth an early pick but personally if Carlton were trading for him I wouldn't be overly keen tbh.

Yarran is worth a 2nd round pick pick around 18/25
You guys got greenwood for 25.. Yarran isnt a better footballer on this whole years form for mine on talent top20 pick on how he acts pick 40 and how inconsistent he is so in that view he is worth 25-35.. No chance he is worth under 25 you'd be kidding yourself and if the tigers pay what carlton want Id be suprised yarran wants to eff off

I still think Greenwood was a bargain

I still don't think we will do a straight swap Lennon for Yarran, but IF we did, Carlton are massive winners from that deal imo. I'd be a very unhappy Tiger fan if we did that, and many would feel the same.
You would be massive winners, unproven hff vs a proven line breaker. The only reason you get this deal is because Yarran has had an off year

An off year? What happened in his other seasons then when his best result in the B&F is 4th and next best a 10th? He is nowhere near a "proven" linebreaker.
