Round 3

44. Collingwood - Daniel Farmer - 187cm forward/midfielder

Hard to predict exactly what the Magpies will look for, so this is probably more a best available type selection. Leading half forward who is quick on the lead, takes a strong grab and knows where the goals are. Can also run through the midfield, and with some development will be able to make an impact with his size.

45. Collingwood - Tim Milera - 170cm forward

Small forward from Port Adelaide, Milera is the classic crumbing forward unlike the midfielders cum forwards. On the AFL website he compares himself to Eddie Betts, and that pretty much says it all. Very skilled player who with Dick, would offer something different at the feet of the talls.

46. Richmond - David Kruse - 190cm defender

Attacking tall defender from the NT, his versatility and athleticism are his strengths. Now that Thursfield is sticking around, this pick may not be as likely. But I've stuck with it, for a team like Richmond who has struggled for so long, it could be a good idea to pick up someone with flair that the fans could rally around.

47. Essendon - Cameron O'Shea - 190cm midfielder

O'Shea was listed at the draft combine as a tall defender, but that isn't entirely accurate. He is a hard working player, who can be given a set role and will stick with it all game. A bit like Myers, he could play as that medium defender or go into the middle and win the contested ball as a tall midfielder.

48. Gold Coast - Cameron Delaney - 191cm defender

A Geelong Falcons boy, and would give the Suns another young option down back. He is strong in contests and his spoiling is a highlight of his game. With a couple of seasons in the gym, I think he is one player who could develop into a genuine full back.

49. Melbourne - Brandyn Grenfell - 198cm forward/ruck

Melbourne have some promising young rucks, but another one wont hurt. They went after Hale, and while he isn't a mature player, Grenfell is a similar ruck/forward type. Better below his knees and faster than Hale though. With Watts and Lynch being more mobile types, Grenfell could be the 'crash the packs' type forward option.

50. Richmond - Ben Brown - 197cm ruckman

Richmond need another ruck option, and they have plenty of choices here. Brown is more a forward/ruck than a genuine ruckman, and his work below his knees is great for a guy size. Had a knee reconstruction this year and wont be back running around until May, but he is a long term investment.

51. Port Adelaide - Max Otten - 191cm defender/midfielder

If you've seen Andy Otten, then you know exactly the type of player that Max is. Half back with a good left boot, who makes smart decisions and works hard to link up. Otten would provide a lot of run off back, something Port probably wished Krakouer could have done.

52. Melbourne - Kirk Ugle - 173cm utility

Bit of a smokey, but one that Melbourne could go for. Comes from the same breeding ground as the Jettas and Bennells, and it wouldn't surprise me if the Demons look to build their own little group within the squad. I listed him as a utility because where he plays would be up to the team. Like Bennell and Jetta, the Demons could develop him at either end of the ground.

53. Geelong - Blayne Wilson - 188cm defender

Has played a lot of football at full back, but that isn't likely to happen at AFL level because of his size. He would however be a strong marking, attacking medium defender. Has got a big kick on him, and although Hunt showed promise, would be another option to replace Milburn. After strengthening their group of talls, expect them to go small in the rookie draft.

54. Hawthorn - Jake Batchelor - 187cm defender

The Hawks did already draft Watson, but strengthening their defence even further wouldn't go astray. He isn't just a defender though, and like Ellis and Young he can run through the middle. Is a defensive minded player, who does have good foot skills. Needs to work on his tank, but I think he could also be developed into a tagger.

55. Fremantle - Arryn Sippos - 188cm forward

I'm sticking with a rebuild of the Fremantle forward line. Sippos is a strong marking medium forward from Victoria, who does play taller than his height. He isn't the quickest, but he has a big tank and very good foot skills. Give him a couple of seasons, and he could very well patrol around the CHF spot.

56. Sydney - Aaron Mullett - 183cm midfielder

Classic Sydney type player in the way he works under pressure and seems to put the team first. He isn't just the battling type midfielder though, as he has decent speed and skills. Conca and Mullett would see the Sydney midfield go from strength to strength.

57. Geelong - Rookie Upgrade - James Podsiadly

58. St Kilda - Nathan Batley - 184cm defender

Some more speed for St Kilda, and a very quick player at that. Most of his football has been played running off of half back, but there is no reason he couldn't play as an outside midfielder. Has good awareness and decision making, his kicking might not be elite but it is infinitely better than than one Saint in particular.

59. Collingwood - Tyler Chalwell - 193cm defender/utility

Spent the season playing Colts, and was named in the team of the year. Due to injuries, he played ruck although that would be unlikely at AFL level given his height. Had he not been needed elsewhere, he would have settled in at CHB and he moves very well around the ground. Could develop into a Ryder type player.

Round 4

60. Adelaide - Paul Puopolo - 175cm defender

Rumours have it that the Bulldogs are very interested, so don't be surprised if Adelaide jump in before they get a chance. With McLeod gone, and Johncock and Doughty getting older and declining, the Crows could use something else down back. Puopolo would be perfect for them, and is genuinely fast so that's a real bonus for Adelaide.

61. West Coast Eagles - Jacob Brennan - 190cm defender

Father son pick for the Eagles. I haven't seen a lot of him, but I would rate some of the guys to come as the better prospects. Brennan will be solid though, and could have an early impact.

62. Richmond - Jarryd Lyons - 183cm midfielder

Just a real solid player is Lyons. Primarily plays as an inside midfielder, but can also go forward and kick a goal or two. I like to think of him as a more agile version of Shane Tuck, because he just racks up the football.

63. Essendon - Rookie Upgrade - Ben Howlett

64. Brisbane Lions - Rookie Upgrade - Claye Beams

65. Hawthorn - Hayden Yarran - 186cm forward

Hawthorn went after Josh Hill, and they could still get him in the draft, but if not Yarran is a decent alternative. They are fairly similar players, both clever and strong marks for their size. Similarly, an improved fitness base will see his game go to the next level.

66. Carlton - Tom Gordon - 194cm defender

Gordon can play at either end, although for Carlton's sake he should be played down back. Is a good size, but can move with the more agile forwards and also compete on the ground. Has decent foot skills, so is able to set up plays from defence.

67. Port Adelaide - Rookie Upgrade - Cameron Hitchcock

68. North Melbourne - Matthew Rankine - 179cm midfielder

Hasn't been getting a lot of attention on BigFooty, but is an exciting prospect. Very quick small forward with good goal sense, but can also win the hard ball. A bit like Garlett in that he is stronger than you'd think.

69. Carlton - Kieran Butcher - 183cm midfielder

Butcher has his fans, but I think he is in a similar position to Mark Hutchings from last season, in that he deserves to be selected but it may not come until the rookie draft. Still, he is a strong all round midfielder, and has leadership qualities from state football.

70. North Melbourne - Alex Johnson - 192cm defender/forward

An interesting player, and one I don't think really has a set position yet. Can play forward or back, although probably more a third tall at either end. Is also quite fast and mobile for a guy his size, so can push up and play off a wing. When it gets to this stage in the draft, versatility is key.

71. Fremantle - Jimmi Savage - 195cm forward

Fast becoming one of my favourite players in the draft. Is a key forward who has been playing U18's for Norwood, and has remarkable athleticism for a guy 195cm tall. He runs all day, is fast and very clean below his knees. Not only that but he is a genuinely strong mark and good kick on goal.

72. Sydney - Ben Reid - 181cm forward

Small forward who played for NSW in the U18 Championships this year. I think he could potentially go in the third round, so it's a good pick up for the Swans here. Does everything you want from a small forward both in the air and on the ground, just needs to improve his strength. More of a crumber than someone like Dennis-Lane, so would be well suited to Sydney.

73. Western Bulldogs - Justin Monaco - 190cm defender

A real bargain pick for the Bulldogs, and a more than capable replacement for Everitt. Is a stronger defender than Everitt and reads the ball in the air, while his rebound work is a strength. Maybe more Hargrave like, but I think he could be developed into a deeper defender.

74. St Kilda - Jake von Bertouch - 191cm forward

Having another tall forward to work with wont hurt the Saints, and von Bertouch is a good prospect in my opinion. He isn't a monster forward, but leads at the ball hard and is also quick off the mark. Jake isn't a one dimensional forward though, and is mobile enough to cause a few problems.

75. Collingwood - Rookie Upgrade - Jarryd Blair

Round 5

76. Collingwood - Rookie Upgrade - Lachlan Keeffe

77. West Coast - Rookie Upgrade - Lewis Stevenson

78. Richmond - Bachar Houli - 180cm midfielder

Chances are Richmond will actually save this pick for the PSD, and take Houli there. Houli will get a proper shot at Richmond, I don't think he'll ever be a star but he should play a role for them.

79. Melbourne - Rookie Upgrade - Jordie McKenzie

80. Adelaide - Nathan Ahmat-Watkins - 186cm forward/midfielder

Medium half forward with genuine football smarts. Originally from the NT, he represented them in the championships, although he now plays in SA. The Crows have a few half forward options, but another wont hurt. Ahmat-Watkins could also push up and play as an outside midfielder.

81. Port Adelaide - Rookie Upgrade - Danny Meyer

82. West Coast - Rookie Upgrade - Andrew Strijk

83. Carlton - Rookie Upgrade - Simon White

84. Hawthorn - Josh Mellington - 186cm forward

I'd like to see this guy get picked up earlier, but it wasn't to be in my draft. Medium forward, who is strong defensively and in marking contests. Is an accurate kick on goal, and just a solid all round player.

85. Fremantle - Rookie Upgrade - Michael Barlow

86. Western Bulldogs - Rookie Upgrade - Andrew Hooper

87. Western Bulldogs - Rookie Upgrade - Brodie Moles

88. St Kilda - Rookie Upgrade - Tom Simpkin

89. Collingwood - NSW Scholarship - Tom Young

Round 6

90. West Coast Eagles - Rookie Upgrade - Callum Wilson

91. Richmond - Rookie Upgrade - David Gourdis

92. Melbourne - Rookie Upgrade - Jake Spencer

93. Adelaide - Rookie Upgrade - Ricky Henderson

94. North Melbourne - Rookie Upgrde - Ben Speight

95. Carlton - Rookie Upgrade - Jeff Garlett

96. Fremantle - Rookie Upgrade - Matt DeBoer

97. Sydney - Jamie Solly - 190cm forward

Solly has gradually fallen down the order, due to nothing but the fact that he is solid rather than spectacular. Could do a lot worse than learning the game from Daniel Bradshaw, so Sydney would be an ideal location for Solly.

98. Gold Coast - Luke Dahlhaus - 175cm forward

I think the Suns will look to a small forward or two late in the draft, and again in the rookie draft. Dahlhaus might not be an exciting crumbing forward, but he competes well and wont let the ball out easily. With Bennell and Matera set to spend time up forward, a work horse like Dahlhaus is exactly what they need. A bit like Nason, in that he will fill a role in a young developing team.

99. Adelaide - Rookie Upgrade - Matthew Jaensch

100. Carlton - Rookie Upgrade - David Ellard

101. Fremantle - Rookie Upgrade - Alex Silvagni

102. Sydney - Rookie Upgrade - Mike Pyke

103. Gold Coast - Ryan Gamble - 184cm forward

Someone will give Gamble another chance, and the Suns are probably the front runners. Would be a quick fix up front, and should at least be good for a goal a game.

104. Fremantle - Rookie Upgrade - Jay van Berlo

Good work this is how all mocks should be done (love explanations they show some thought). Cats would be happy with Caddy and Hallahan but personally i would take Patrick McCarthy instead of Caddy and then get Hallahan. Just to good a defender to pass up and the Cats need one.

Looking forward to this. I agree with you that too many are discounting Polec in calculation for picks 4 and 5. He has shown very impressive form for a junior in the SANFL and has speed and x-factor like no ones business.

Also Gorringe is now officially 200cm and genuine ruck height. I can find the link later if you like.

Look forward to reading the rest.

I would think Wilkinson would go au least in the top 30, and especially with the lions having a heap of picks should they use compo picks. Yes he is more of a athlete then a footballer, but nicnat went pick 2 not that long ago. I wouldn't be surprised if a team takes the punt with their 1st pick

On polec, don't discard smith before him...he out played polec in one of the sanfl finals

Would Carlton really overlook Watson and Darling for another midfielder ??? I know we generally go for best available, but those 2 would be perfect for us at either end of the field ............

Good effort nice to see some different names up high then the norm,i really like the guthrie pick good to see some one rate him pretty high class act.:thumbsu:

I think the quality of midfielders is a fair bit higher than the quality of talls, particularly in regards to the first round. So if a team was to go for best available, then that will likely go towards a midfielder or utility type.

The only reason Watson went in the first round was because of Hawthorn's need for a big bodied defender, so I had them taking him early. Carlton are in a similar position, but they also have two second round picks so they can afford to go best available with their first one. While potentially picking more for needs later on.

Carlton will be taking a key defender in the third round, to go with their tall forward in Mitchell, soon though.

As for Darling, I think he is a legitimate chance to last until Fremantle. Gold Coast, Melbourne and Carlton would be the main contenders, especially if Lynch went earlier. But there isn't much separating him and Cook, so even if they decided to go tall it doesn't mean Darling will be the one.

The third round will be up tomorrow at some stage, so don't worry if you think your club has missed out on something. Some decent names still to come, one from WA in particular.

Fantastic read. :thumbsu:

I'd be very pleased with Atley at 8.

There seems to be a bit of talk about Essendon taking Gorringe, but I just see it as doing our due diligence. How would you compare Lycett to Gorringe at this stage, and going forward? Is Gorringe a much better prospect or is it simply because GC may use some early picks to cover all basis?

I like your work Chris25. Will have to make a new one myself over the weekend when I get the chance.

Like the interpretation. A few interesting sliders.

Lycett and Jacobs it really surprises me to see both down so low in this draft. Jacobs I feel will have a really immediate impact at AFL level and I get the feeling he might go top 20.
Lycett also pretty surprising to see him slide so far, again would be pretty surprised to see him slide so far because I think with time he will develop into a very good ruckman.

West Coast do need another key forward so Cook or Mitchell would be a nice result, but if Lycett slides to one of our picks we would be crazy to pass him up.

Cox is ageing and we have no other rucks on our list bar Lynch who has been kept to pinch hit if one of the two get injured. We need to start developing another young ruckman to help NicNat out in the future.

Great work as always Chris, thanks for the hard work and I look forward to reading the rest of it.

Just a couple of thoughts on Geelong:
Certainly if Caddy is there at 15 he seems a likely pick for us, albeit that we are a tall defender short list wise so Watson and McCarthy might also be possibles for 15. I suspect one of our first round picks will be a mid, and the other a defender, it's just which way round Wells wants to do it. Smedts will also be firmly in the frame if he slides.

The ruck situation is interesting..in one sense we have 5 on the list so we don't need another, on the other hand in 12 months time we'll be down to 2 or 3 (Ottens will retire, Blake will go and one of Simpson or West will be cut) so you may well be right about #36. Having said that for some reason I feel it's more likely we'll take a ruckman late (in the 50's) or Wells may even decide to do it in the rookie draft, in view of the fact that we'll be elevating most of our rookies at the end of '11 (as Collingwood are doing now), he may feel that's better value. Hence more a 'project' than a ready to go might be likely.

Do you think there's a good chance Andreoli will slide beyond the first round? I definitely think we'll look for quick mids again with one or two of our picks so it would be interesting to know who might be there for our later picks.

Would be stoked if the draft fell that way for the Tiges, been wanting Heppel but when gc and bris traded picks i felt all was lost. fingers crossed it goes down this way

Chris, as usual a great read.:thumbsu:

Do you rate Newton higher than Cripps and Fasolo?
