Round 3
44. Collingwood - Daniel Farmer - 187cm forward/midfielder
Hard to predict exactly what the Magpies will look for, so this is probably more a best available type selection. Leading half forward who is quick on the lead, takes a strong grab and knows where the goals are. Can also run through the midfield, and with some development will be able to make an impact with his size.
45. Collingwood - Tim Milera - 170cm forward
Small forward from Port Adelaide, Milera is the classic crumbing forward unlike the midfielders cum forwards. On the AFL website he compares himself to Eddie Betts, and that pretty much says it all. Very skilled player who with Dick, would offer something different at the feet of the talls.
46. Richmond - David Kruse - 190cm defender
Attacking tall defender from the NT, his versatility and athleticism are his strengths. Now that Thursfield is sticking around, this pick may not be as likely. But I've stuck with it, for a team like Richmond who has struggled for so long, it could be a good idea to pick up someone with flair that the fans could rally around.
47. Essendon - Cameron O'Shea - 190cm midfielder
O'Shea was listed at the draft combine as a tall defender, but that isn't entirely accurate. He is a hard working player, who can be given a set role and will stick with it all game. A bit like Myers, he could play as that medium defender or go into the middle and win the contested ball as a tall midfielder.
48. Gold Coast - Cameron Delaney - 191cm defender
A Geelong Falcons boy, and would give the Suns another young option down back. He is strong in contests and his spoiling is a highlight of his game. With a couple of seasons in the gym, I think he is one player who could develop into a genuine full back.
49. Melbourne - Brandyn Grenfell - 198cm forward/ruck
Melbourne have some promising young rucks, but another one wont hurt. They went after Hale, and while he isn't a mature player, Grenfell is a similar ruck/forward type. Better below his knees and faster than Hale though. With Watts and Lynch being more mobile types, Grenfell could be the 'crash the packs' type forward option.
50. Richmond - Ben Brown - 197cm ruckman
Richmond need another ruck option, and they have plenty of choices here. Brown is more a forward/ruck than a genuine ruckman, and his work below his knees is great for a guy size. Had a knee reconstruction this year and wont be back running around until May, but he is a long term investment.
51. Port Adelaide - Max Otten - 191cm defender/midfielder
If you've seen Andy Otten, then you know exactly the type of player that Max is. Half back with a good left boot, who makes smart decisions and works hard to link up. Otten would provide a lot of run off back, something Port probably wished Krakouer could have done.
52. Melbourne - Kirk Ugle - 173cm utility
Bit of a smokey, but one that Melbourne could go for. Comes from the same breeding ground as the Jettas and Bennells, and it wouldn't surprise me if the Demons look to build their own little group within the squad. I listed him as a utility because where he plays would be up to the team. Like Bennell and Jetta, the Demons could develop him at either end of the ground.
53. Geelong - Blayne Wilson - 188cm defender
Has played a lot of football at full back, but that isn't likely to happen at AFL level because of his size. He would however be a strong marking, attacking medium defender. Has got a big kick on him, and although Hunt showed promise, would be another option to replace Milburn. After strengthening their group of talls, expect them to go small in the rookie draft.
54. Hawthorn - Jake Batchelor - 187cm defender
The Hawks did already draft Watson, but strengthening their defence even further wouldn't go astray. He isn't just a defender though, and like Ellis and Young he can run through the middle. Is a defensive minded player, who does have good foot skills. Needs to work on his tank, but I think he could also be developed into a tagger.
55. Fremantle - Arryn Sippos - 188cm forward
I'm sticking with a rebuild of the Fremantle forward line. Sippos is a strong marking medium forward from Victoria, who does play taller than his height. He isn't the quickest, but he has a big tank and very good foot skills. Give him a couple of seasons, and he could very well patrol around the CHF spot.
56. Sydney - Aaron Mullett - 183cm midfielder
Classic Sydney type player in the way he works under pressure and seems to put the team first. He isn't just the battling type midfielder though, as he has decent speed and skills. Conca and Mullett would see the Sydney midfield go from strength to strength.
57. Geelong - Rookie Upgrade - James Podsiadly
58. St Kilda - Nathan Batley - 184cm defender
Some more speed for St Kilda, and a very quick player at that. Most of his football has been played running off of half back, but there is no reason he couldn't play as an outside midfielder. Has good awareness and decision making, his kicking might not be elite but it is infinitely better than than one Saint in particular.
59. Collingwood - Tyler Chalwell - 193cm defender/utility
Spent the season playing Colts, and was named in the team of the year. Due to injuries, he played ruck although that would be unlikely at AFL level given his height. Had he not been needed elsewhere, he would have settled in at CHB and he moves very well around the ground. Could develop into a Ryder type player.
