Tony Milera if he slips through PICK HIM UP

consider Josh Farmer from West Adelaide

He has great hands, endurance level around 175 cm but solid good around stoppages played in a couple of State U18's games and in the Westies U18's SANFL one of the best on ground in the gf, he is in the Rodger James Mould, I would Love if port picked him up, thoughts?
It's Tim Milera or his cousin Terry Milera not Tony.

If Josh Green is available at 31, Brisbane will snatch him. Possible to even go to one of our earlier picks (especially if we use a compo pick) and wont slip to Carlton at 33.

I think its the red hair...

I think I might post a fifth round at some stage tonight. Obviously it wouldn't be overly accurate in regards to how many picks each team makes, but just think of any further selections as being rookie picks. Would throw out some other names who could be later options too.

Tony Milera if he slips through PICK HIM UP

Assuming you mean Terry. I think he'll be picked up as a rookie, the fact he is 22 and still playing SANFL reserves will count against him. But he was the best in the reserves this year, and some teams are interested in him.

Hopefully Tim gets picked up in the national draft though.

Yeah, a lot of Brisbane fans seem to love Green. I don't know though, I just think some of the other guys in a similar range are the better options. I think he'd be on the cards from 25, but I wouldn't be surprised if he slipped on past the second round.

I posted this in my old draft thread, it still holds true....

McCarthy would be my favourite player in the draft. As a KPP, his potential is second to only Day in my opinion. Carlisle and Chaplin are good players, but McCarthy is a completely different type of defender. He is like what Chad Cornes used to be. And I would be surprised if Cornes played past 2011, while I don't particularly rate Pettigrew or Salter as defenders.

Sometimes you just have to go best available, particularly when they are home grown KPPs....

Chris are you doing this draft by best available or by what you think each club will do?

If it isn't your best avail then who do you think Port will draft if they dont pick McCarthy. It has been reported that Rhode said Port WOULDN'T be drafting any tall backs. That may be a ruse (I doubt it). It was reported Port will take runners with at least 2 of their first 3 picks and will find it hard to overlook Lycett at 16.

Also I have it on very good authority that if Brodie Smith is avail Port will jump at him straight away. But they expect him to be gone well before 16.

More a combination of best available and what I would do, not what I expect the club to do.

The chances of Port taking McCarthy are pretty slim, although I still think it would be the best move. But I've said that before.

Otherwise, Smith would be the favourite for Port's pick and Young the outsider. I don't really think Lycett is all that required, Brogan has a few years left in him while Port do have some young rucks coming along. The smarter move would be to take a ruck with a late pick, someone like Giles.

I added a fifth round. Like I said before, treat it as a rookie draft if your club isn't going to be picking that late.

Also changed two picks in the fourth round, with Batchelor going to North and Sippos to Fremantle instead of Lester and Puopolo.

Still some decent prospects on offer too, plenty of mature aged options too. Just a few of the ones I still like....

Ozgur Uysal - 181cm forward
Matthew Jones - 199cm ruckman
Darcy Barden - 192cm forward
Ryan Lester - 190cm defender/forward
Alex McLeod - 182cm midfielder
Joseph Groenewegen - 198cm ruckman
Andrew McInnes - 189cm defender
Zac Fitzgerald - 192cm forward
Rowan Garlett - 181cm forward
Graham Jetta - 175cm defender
Haydn Busher - 191cm defender
Chris Luff - 190cm defender
Sam Menagola - 194cm forward
Darcy Armfield - 190cm forward
Jake Crawford - 191cm defender
Jarrod Ninyette - 185cm forward
Ken Campbell - 175cm defender
Tom Ledger - 187cm midfielder
Jayden Schofield - 183cm defender
Alex Johnson - 192cm defender

Hi Chris , i noticed you havn't included leif cope at all.

205cm extremely mobile ruckman with a basketball backround that was at the draft combine, dont you rate him at all or simply an overseight.

Leif is definitely in the mix, and I would be tempted to draft him just based on his name. There is a good chance that someone will take a punt on him early, because as you said he is very athletic for a guy his size.

Ultimately, Hickey and Brown were just ahead of him in my draft. No real reason why, and he'd be a great pick up this late.

would love this kid in the rookie draft if he falls through, even richmonds 63 i'd be tempted.

Round 1

16. Port Adelaide - Patrick McCarthy - 194cm defender

I had this in my last draft, and not all Port fans agreed. I rate McCarthy as one of the top talls in the draft, but his rebound work is up there with the smaller defenders. I see him taking over from Cornes and ultimately you can never have too many quality talls.

17. North Melbourne - Brodie Smith - 188cm midfielder

Has everything a young midfielder needs to be successful, but not everyone can go inside the top fifteen. Has good speed and awareness in close. I see him as a Rhys Palmer type, and there is nothing bad about that.

"We're probably discounting key backs as we're pretty well off for those and will prioritise all our running positions"

If you can believe what Port are saying we wont take a tall defender at 16, if Brodie Smith is available I reckon we wont be able to call out his name fast enough.

Port isn't a dumb club, if they thought someone might pick a player a little earlier than they wanted to, to get in before Port did, then I could see them trying to throw the hounds off the scent.

A few people (mainly Port supporters) don't seem to like my views on their picks. So here is what I think will happen in the first round, not what I would do...

Round 1

1. Gold Coast - David Swallow
2. Gold Coast - Harley Bennell
3. Gold Coast - Sam Day
4. West Coast Eagles - Andrew Gaff

7. Gold Coast - Daniel Gorringe
8. Essendon - Shaun Atley
9. Gold Coast - Tom Lynch
10. Gold Coast - Josh Caddy
11. Gold Coast - Luke Parker
12. Melbourne - Kieran Harper
13. Gold Coast - Billie Smedts
14. Adelaide - Ben Jacobs
15. Geelong - Patrick McCarthy

Yeah, I didn't expect Guthrie to last that long. But unless Gold Coast take him, I think it could happen.

And he is a much better prospect than Pitt or Prestia.

Personally I think Prestia's as good as Guthrie, but TBH it doesn't matter because our midfield needs pace, hence I'd be very surprised if we take someone like a Guthrie until we've tabbed that player first.

Also think Pitt will be very good.

Where do you think he'll go?

Guthrie is like Travis Boak, but with a more defensive nature, so in this day and age of football, I really rate the kid. At the moment, he is sitting around 10th* on my draft list.

Have not really attempted a Mock Draft yet, so maybe Chris is correct. All I know is if Carlton had a chance to select Guthrie, I would be super shocked if they passed on that chance, unless a highly rated tall falls to our pick.

*Have not seen any of the draft combine results yet, so this is subject to change.

If you're looking for speed then Isaac Smith if he manages to last to your pick is the one your after. He would love to be on the end of the likes of Selwood, Chapman, Bartel, Corey and Ling.

I still can't see us taking Jacobs over Smith, he just seems like the type of midfielder we have plenty of. We need a hard running, mainly outside mid.

Certainly a possibility, although he might be seen as too much of a risk as he's still so raw. On the other hand, the amount of development left could be a plus. I would say Prestia, Andreoli, Smith, Green etc will all be in the frame for 23, as Wells has (correctly) indentified that's the hole we need to fill.

I don't really rate Jacobs as a first rounder, but he would suit Adelaide very well. He can play anywhere on the ground, is a genuine ball winner and disposes of it well too. Would be a powerful midfielder, which Adelaide don't really have a lot of.

Could be another Dangerfield/Ebert type pick.

Does he have any genuine speed though? In Thompson, Sloane, Reilly, Vince etc, we have plenty who can get their own ball. And Smith seems like more of an outside mid, which is something we have lacked for a while. Tambling helps, but I see him playing more off the HBF/wing.

He isn't the fastest player going around, but he is strong off the mark so it isn't a major problem. Basically with Jacobs, you're getting a powerful ball winner with excellent foot skills.

I agree that Adelaide need pace, they always have. But Jacobs just seems like an Adelaide pick.
