Increasingly keen on Hewett, less enthused by Ginbey as a midfielder. At #8 there is potentially so much talent (McKenzie, Phillipou, Humphrey) that we shouldn't be taking a punt on Ginbey being able to suddenly add 10 extra disposals to his output at the elite level (+50% on his current production).
In the 20s I'm also not too keen to be grabbing kids who didn't even get an invite to the national draft combine(like Kaleb Smith as per knightmare's mock draft). 67 kids got invited to the national combine, we have 2 x picks in the 20s, and we're going for a kid outside of those 67? Come on!
I’d be more worried if he was only getting linked to us. Admittedly, it is mostly us but there’s often a qualifier on if he lasts to our pick 8 or the clubs immediately after our pick 8 are raised as a possibilityGinbey can't be that s**t if he won WA MVP being thrown into a new position. And that's rating his performance against the other best mids in the country.
He also turned 18 last month, so he's a bit younger than others he would've been up against.
I haven't seen any footage but there's a reason he's bolting up the ranks and I'm sure the analysis runs deeper than counting his possessions on a stat sheet.

Doesn’t necessarily make him the best choice but it wouldn’t be a howler if we did take him. Assuming we take Hewett, a legitimate mid, at 12 then that’s a good pairing of picks worth taking the risk of trading down for
His colts game whee he kicked 2 goals was handy enough. However you are spot on that he just doesn't do enough. Is like SPP where he is strong to break tackles but thats hardly a reason to draft someone with so many flaws in their game.Wait, i just googled Ginbey's stats.
Is he seriously a proposed midfielder based on the following stats? If you can't find the ball consistently pre-draft, you're not going to all of a sudden become a prolific ball winner at AFL level. Unless i'm missing some games where racked it up this is absolutely yuck, do not want, no matter what his athletic profile is.

WA were shit. On par with the Allies team who only realistically get 3-4 players drafted all to the Northern Academies mid to late draftGinbey can't be that s**t if he won WA MVP being thrown into a new position. And that's rating his performance against the other best mids in the country.

Honestly though, it looks like we might make moves on Ed Allan at 8/12. Such a West Coast pick.I’d be more worried if he was only getting linked to us. Poo isn't untapped though, he has delivered.Theres been some chatter Ginners might be off the board by 8 so absolutely it's not like we'd be reaching based on general consensus.
And given how he performed when moved into the middle, I suspect there's a consideration of untapped potential and high ceiling much like there is with Poo. WA plugged a HBF into the midfield and he won the MVP. That's Yeo-like trajectory which seems to be getting people excited.
I'm not going to melt as hard as others if we take him, but I'd definitely want more of a sure thing at 12. Hewetts got a good body of work, he's a safe pick there.
It's not a West Coast draft if we don't pluck a random from nowhere with a ? as their profile picture on the draft tracker website!
I just love that all the talk is of a HBF with midfield potential with our first pick, when there will be legitimate midfield options still available.
I think a lot of us on here are weary after the whole "HBF with midfield potential" strategy we've often employed. When we've got pick 8 at a point in the draft where there is still a lot of genuine midfielders, it scares us posters that ROB may be trying to be a bit too clever.
God I hope not.Sydney apparently very keen on Humphrey.
If he was available at our pick 9, and Sydney offered 15 + 17, would we do it? Maybe a ports F2 going back to Sydney or something just to make it more realistic.
Go to the draft with 12 (Hewett), 15 (Hustwaite), 17 (Hotton), 20 (Ed Allan), 26 (Keeler)?
Only 3 sleeps for De GoeyStill 39 sleeps worth of this s**t
You don't know if O'Briens hard on will last that longThought we were considering Allan at 20, not as early as 12

To me it's a no brainer. Ginbey, McKenzie, Hotton, can be part of a good midfield. Where as a few others can be the best player in your midfield and also have goal kicking ability.Of the players talked of being available at our pick I think Clark and Mackenzie, maybe Hollands also, are the genuine mids. Clark and Mackenzie are likely to go before 8 with Hollands a chance to be taken by Gold Coast
Now if it falls that way the choices other than Ginbey are :
• Humphrey - more a high half forward and has questions on his disposal
• Busslinger - KPD
• Phillipou - more a mid than Ginbey but I’ve still read doubts on whether he’s a mid or a forward
Ginbey is a risk in that he hasn’t proven a capacity to be a high production mid but he does have a big body and pace. Handy attributes that we lack. Also seems to have a genuine competitive streak/bit of campaigner to him as well
None of this directly relates to ROB (yet). This speculation is all the impartials suggesting we'll take Ginbey at 8. Are they all wrong as well? Just doesn't make sense they'd all project him to go top 10 (and some were suggesting he'd go earlier than 8) if he's a spud.
