probably none, because covidWhich of the draftees had really strong under 16s form before missing a lot through injuries?
That is ROBs first pick.
At 8 we’d have the choice from 5 of Tsatas, Humphrey, Ginbey, Busslinger, Clark, Mackenzie, Hollands, Hewett and Phillipou (4 will be gone). This is why 8/9 is a sweet spot. We'll have great options there, and I'd rather not trade back further. Any of the 5 players you've mentioned there have the capacity to overtake the top 5, too.
20 days out from the draft last year, how many had us taking Chesser with our first?
Probably not too many, from memory it was all about whether Erasmus or Johnson would be there for us as a local pick. Then there were whispers of Sinn, and then Chesser very very late
Next minute we have the first 10 picks in the 2025 draft and the AFL decides to introduce Tasmania to the league and gives them the first 10 picks.8 for 11 & 21?
Go to draft with 11, 12, 20, 21 and 26. Five picks inside top 30 as ROB/Nisbett said (can't remember which one said it).
Good draft hand overall, but my ghod what a way to burn pick 2 in the draft for a bunch of picks outside the top 10.
I also wonder if 11 pushes us out of the 2nd tier talent (McKenzie, Humphrey, Tsatas, Philipou, Clark) and towards the 3rd tier in this draft cohort.
Otherwise 8 for 11 and F2 (pick 32-36 before academy/FS/Norf compo selections if Bulldogs get their act together)

Interview with WA talent manager Adam Jones
No surprises but mentions Ginbey will be the first WA player taken (top 10), followed by Busslinger then Hewett and Allan.

Listening to this, Hugh Davies sounds like the quintessential West Coast pick.
Key back, Claremont, Christchurch, pick 30-40odd
Never seen a second of him play but any chance of being the next E-Mac, Barrass?
Yeah but did he go to a private all boys school though?
Thanks for the insight mate.
If it happened then the top 10 of the draft could look like this.
1 Ashcroft
2 Cadman
3 Sheezle
4 Wardlaw
5 Tsatas
6 McKenzie (Saints swap with Suns)
7 Clarke
8 Busslinger
9 Poo or Ginbey
10 Hollands (Suns)
Would the Cats go Buss? Would the Hawks go Clarke?
Phillipou is a Smokey he could go to the Bombers ,Hawks or Cats in this scenario.
Would still leave Humphrey, Hewitt, and either Ginbey or the Poo outside the top 10.
Other prospects that could jump up in the draft are Jefferson next best key Forward, Hayes next best key back and Barnett best ruck option.
Cats ( if Clarke is gone before there pick) Blues and Dogs are hard to gauge as to what they will be looking for. Will it be one of the mids or talls.
AFAIK is Mackenzie and Tsatas are off the board then the trade with saints isn't a likely go ahead.
So what makes Busslinger better than someone like this guy?He had a shocking Championships, bleed goals at important moments and fumbled to many times for my liking in critical moments.
Yes he has a had a very good Colts season, however he seemed to be found out in the Championships, when the speed and intensity went up several notches.
I have watched a bit of him this year and he would be a pass from me.
Speaking of Quintessential West Coast Picks.
He isn't in our current pick range but the player IMO, who is most like E-Mac Barrass, ( and who also has RO'B stamped all over him ) is James Van Es.
Van Es has displayed at the Champs a lot of the traits that the Pie Man generally looks for in KPD.
Pick 26 would be a slight reach, but I think he is gone by the end of the second round, he hasn't been getting a lot of love from the mock recruiters but I think he is very under ratted.
He started the year at 193 cm and he is now 199, and yet he still managed to come in fourth in the 20 mtr sprint at the Combine with a time of 2.91, not many 199 cm kids have clocked a sprint that fast.
He has a very good leap on him: He came Second in the standing vertical leap with 75 cm and came in First in the running vertical leap with 98 cm.
He plays as both a lock down defender and also chooses when to intercept mark, the kids very safe and strong overhead.
Has clean and good foot skills.
Remember the name James Van Es, he will be one to track going forward, I think he has a good chance of becoming a very handy AFL player.
As an AFL prospect I rate him much higher than Keeler.
So what makes Busslinger better than someone like this guy?
Kicking, play reading, marking and footy IQ. Van Es is definitely a later key defender type worth drafting. I didn't think he was at the start of the year but he's very much pure lockdown and is reactive.
I have the same worry on Busslinger that and his injury historyWell said.
You have summed him up beautifully by way of a comparison.
Van Es was much more physical in the champs than Busslinger, James is a strong lad and he is already 99 kg, I think he will become a very solid lockdown key defender.
On Busslinger, I have some queries about him as a KPD, very good footballer, but I am not sure he will be able to hold down the gorilla type KPF in the AFL, in many ways he plays like a tall attacking HBF.
He may prove me wrong BUT that’s the concern that I have with him.
And we have Bazzo who can already play that role, plus Bazzo can play either end of the ground, if needed.

Like your thinking.Just on Busslinger I dont have that as a concern. I actually think the future requires 1 genuine big lockdown key defender and then a couple of guys like Bazzo and Busslinger who can float, read the play as well as forwards (or in the Bus's case better than almost all forwards) and then intercept or bring the ball to ground. You then need 1 lockdown small on the ground and two run, kick and carry HBF's. Busslinger at 197 with the footskills and playreading of an elite HB is a huge tick from me. He as you know was my safety pick at 2. I also wouldn't write off his ability to play man on man yet either. From what is reported to me his shoulder affected pretty much his whole year. So to put in the performances he did before having to go off for surgery was a huge tick for me.
It's why Buss is still my pick for 8 unless Mackenzie is available. I see a backline round 1 2027 of Hough, Edwards, Bazzo, Chesser as well as hopefully Busslinger and Jakob Ryan. Your would have 2 4th year players, 3 5th year players and your really big lockdown defender in Edwards. (At 8 I have Mackenzie, Busslinger, Clark, Philippou) in that order.
To make it perfect add in Philippou and Hewett into the mids and we are more than halfway there in the rebuild imo. Add a top notch HFF, Ruck and a Key forward next year. Develop the team and you can then start looking to fill holes. (we'd still be about 3 mids short, a crumbing pressure forward and a two way hard running HF link up player / wrecking ball type.
You can replace Jakob Ryan with Charlie Clarke and it just means you're looking for another small defender however if either one of Chesser or Hough were to become full time mids then having Ryan already there would be a huge positive.
If we can trade our 2024 first into next years draft and pick up GC's first we could fill those 3 gaping needs with 3 elite talents in those areas.
If we draft and trade exceptionally I see this as a 5 year rebuild before contention. This draft would be year 2 of the rebuild.
I’m assuming going by this that you think H.Edwards is AFL quality and will make it?Just on Busslinger I dont have that as a concern.
