Petracca. Pick 2 2014.

Did his ACL in first preseason training and took another 4yrs of playing forward/mid before he shifted more Mid/forward. Stop stressing over injury. If anything early injury teaches the kids the professionalism to rehab properly bc their incentive to be drafted is so high. the same cant be said for the 150 game 27yo player who does his ACL, history shows us they rarely return to form, or are constantly injured....nicnat. Judd dropped to 3 bc he had bad shoulders - never had a dislocation once drafted.

And now do Nathan freeman?

What if he never settles plays poorly and we only pick 10 or whatever that club has. JHF was a generational talent and got a massive trade deal.
You have to take the chance. I would prefer to take the chance of this on a top end talent than dropping down the draft and chancing on a kid who has a blanket thrown over him with 15 others.

I don’t like that we traded pick 2 for two first round picks

We should have used pick 2 on a player then get two first round picks for him when he asks to go home in 2 years

Sounds like we end up 2 years ahead of schedule this way

True . However there may be a chance the mummy's boy ends up liking WA or at least stays a few extra years plays in 2 GFs with us wins a premiership a Simpson and a Brownlow, Captains our club , all Australian then goes home and nets us 2 first round picks who then play in 2 GFs win a premiership and snag a couple of Coleman's, all Australian on the way . Putting in Golf you can NEVER sink a putt if you hit it too soft...... a little hard tho might still go in .

Where injured x-factor could land

There is much intrigue surrounding where Murray Bushrangers power forward Brayden George will land in this year’s draft order.

George had an injury-interrupted season, missing almost three months in the middle of the year after having clean-up surgery on his right knee.

He returned to the field late in the NAB League season but played only half a game against Bendigo and then did the ACL in his left knee in the first quarter of a wildcard round game against Sandringham the following week.

The latest injury is expected to sideline George throughout 2023 and may therefore scare off some less established teams, but he is still expected to find a home in the second round of the draft.

“I would have thought he’s top-10 if he doesn’t get injured,” one recruiter said.

“His best has been as good as anyone’s, really.”

George has been likened to Melbourne’s Christian Petracca and Brisbane’s Cam Rayner and booted six goals against Greater Western Victoria Rebels in Round 5 of the NAB League this year.

“He’s a pretty unique player with his power and his ability to play tall and small and hit the scoreboard,” another recruiter said.

“With what he is, how unique he is, he’ll definitely find a home somewhere and 20-30 could easily be the range.”

Great write up on Darcy Jones

Unfortunately, GWS have shown a lot of interest and with picks 15,18 and 19 could afford to use on of those to reach a little bit for him

Also compare the following to some other comments we’ve seen

"I've come to terms with the fact it's more likely I'll be going over east. But you never know what's going to happen. If I'm lucky enough to go over east, then certainly I'll be over the moon."

Would not be upset in the slightest if he found his way to us

Yep, I want him badly, and it looks like if we want him, it will have to be with our pick 12. I would be fine with that. He is a Shai Bolton clone, and just what we need. Some zip and X-factor. Go get him Pieman.

show me the stats ANY mid/forw in the draft that has at NAB league an average 2.6 goals per game, 20 touches 3.3 tackles 8 score involvements and at the national champs not much less. kids a gun.

All good players but when all said and done likely wont be even top 3 in their respective drafts

Put yourself in the Piemans shoes, he has Culley, Chesser and Hough from 2022. He also has Bazzo that looks a winner. We need heavy hauls this draft and next year then we will be on our way.

Culley i can live with. I think he has some real upside and I can absolutely see him doing the heavy hauling in the middle in the years to come

Hough and Bazzo look like solid half-backs. Key here: half-backs. Unless Hough in particular makes it his mission to eat like its his job and starts hitting the weights like Mr universe, he is too skinny to make it as a modern onballer

Chesser has played a grand total of 2 games in the last 3 years. Was last seen playing against kids. As a half back.

This is hardly the making of a deep, elite onball division

Our cupboard is bare. And putting our stock into Hough, Bazzo, and Cheeser and praying they make it as midfielders is the exact same madness that has us in this position with our midfield stocks at all time lows

And annoyingly, its not a complicated fix;

Identify areas of deficiency: midfield
Identify midfield deficiencies: contested ball, tackling
Draft to address these deficiencies

I really cannot fathom how after all this time the Pieman seemingly cannot understand or draft contested ball winning midfielders with our initial selections

And case in point, I think he will reinforce this by taking Buslinger with our first pick. Which would be the most Pieman selection ever and a continued failure to identify what our real needs and deficiencies are

Which is exactly why we shouldn't have traded out pick 2.

Sheed, sheuy, Kelly nicnat in middle is good for 10 games next year. how many games have all 3 played in the same game.....hin SweetFA. Who comes in when sheuy does another hammy, NICs knee fails again and sheed slowness becomes apparent.

Yeo goes to half back..no way he plays midfield anymore. Body won't let him

Redden retired.

Gaff...oh what to do about gaff!!

Culley...certainly a shown a bit but can he step it up another level.

Chesser. HBF

Duggen doesn't cut it.
SPS useless.

West meh
O'Neill maybe goes next level but I doubt it

Err, Hough played wing all year..

I may be mistaken, but it looked like he played as a halfback who sat a little bit higher up on the ground to me

But again, I may be incorrect
It was a mix, started with half back for a few games and they then moved him up to wing.

It can be debated that an attacking HB and wing play a similar role these days. Drop back into defence, then press hard up the ground and are often kicking into 50.

Start? I've called him Gumby since he was 15.
Given he's played half Forward through a lot of his juniors the fact you've got him shoehorned as a half back is a little odd.

Kicking is too suspect atm to have a long term role off the half backline.

You are incorrect played wing at end of season with our coach saying he is considered a midfielder
Though he did start a half back.
Nobody other than you sees him as a half back
The club also see Chesser as a mid as well

We have seen a lot of these half back types mooted as potential midfielders over the years

With the exception of Yeo who was recruited as opposed to drafted, it hasn't really worked out for us

Ok so he goes home. we get 2 early first rounders in the 2025 draft. sound good to me considering the draft will compromised from 2026 on for the tassie team.

Brady Hough played all his junior footy as a mid right in the centre for Peel

Duggan
Foley
Chesser (debatable)

Who are all these half back types mooted as midfielders that we’ve drafted?

I count 3 and I’m not convinced Chesser counts. It’s certainly too early to say it hasn’t worked out (or will)
