NO TROLLS Clarkson signs on as new North Melbourne coach - No Trolling

Your list was pretty poor last year (takes one to know one) due to not having very good players and a rough injury record.
Our list was good enough to knock off 5 top 8 sides in the second half of the year and draw with the eventual premiers with Koschitske as our sole key forward for much of that time.

It took a Clarkson half a seaso. To recognize we were playing a depressing and defensive game style that could kick a score.

Clarkson was being paid upwards of $1.4m to bounce around the bottom 2 and have players underperform for l look rage parts of his last 3 years.

If it takes Clarkson half a season to put together the game plan and react well enough to knock off 5 top 8 sides I'll take that as a pretty good first season in charge. If anything it shows he was still able to evolve with a team he had in place.

He also had to do it in 2017, 2019, 2021 after early season beltings and it didn’t work at all in 2020.

Don’t really understand why anyone is making a judgement on his coaching post premierships.

He wrung as much out of that list as he possibly could. It’s not like Mitchell has taken over and turned them into world beaters.
Clarkson believes he is the AFL Bill Belichick. Clarkson regularly goes to the states to learn from Belichick.

Tom Brady made Bill Belichick just like Hodge and Mitchell made Clarkson.

With nobody to check Clarko he will ruin the list just like he did at Hawthorn in the last few years.

So when anyone else peaks and then drops off it’s natural progression and time for a rebuild, when a guy with 4 flags does it, it’s him ruining the list

Let him go to some other mob who are happy to pay him big bucks to live off past glories.

Or if you absolutely 'must' sign him, give him 2 years with triggers for 3rd and 4th year.

Finals in 2024 or out the door.

The paying members have been waiting a long time to see a decent team on the park.

With the picks coming the club's way this season, after the last two seasons of high picks, there'll be enough talent on the park.

If they can't make top 8 in 2024 with a big name coach after all of this then what is the point?

Five year plans are for Terrys Wallets and co i.e. the bin 🚮

Finals in 2 years after the worst 3 years in 90 years.

Good thing you are taking a sensible view of things.

Clarkson was a big part of us trading out of the draft to top up.

The top up failed, and Wright left the club after butting heads with Clarkson when he was wanting to continue down that path.

And if he gave up trying and dropped us down the ladder he would have been accused of tanking.

The idea that he was wrong to try and win one more flag is crazy.

Also, Im sure Wright didnt also leave for the massive pay boost.

He was a big part of pushing for O’meara and Wingard, which cost us a number of high draft picks.

As I posted already, I think it was his right to top up and try again, but that doesn’t mean the conclusion that it both failed and was costly to the list is wrong.

So overrated.
Great job in ‘08 no doubt but he had so many great picks that anyone could’ve coached them thereafter.

‘12 shouldn’t even make the GF after the shocking umpiring.
Couldn’t beat the Cats until Chappy/Enright were out of the side.
Umpiring assisted again in the prelim of 2014. It’s Port at the G, big bloody deal.
Fyfe hampered in the 2015 prelim after losing to WCE in QF but you get a home GF anyway.

09-12 were epic failures but actual good teams were at their prime I guess. They fell away and the likes of Eagles, Swans, Freo and Port were the competition lol.

Would be interesting to know what another coach would’ve achieved. Are they really going to fail with Buddy, Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Roughy, Rioli etc?

Obviously any team which tries something and fails made a mistake and could have done something differently.

The issue is how quickly people turned on him for daring to try.

Your salty tears are always amusing.

He was given 6 years after the 2015 flag, and only really started getting any heat from fans in 2020 after the arse fell out of the side.

He had 2 years after we stopped playing finals. And we saw Mitchell lose a year, Rioli retire early, and COVID cost all developing teams because the kids werent playing.

Finals in 2024? Never gonna happen. Time to build club from top down and then you’ll see results in every dept. That will bring sustained success.
We pinched 2008 from Cats best team ever yes, but it took a few seasons after that to be a genuine contender again.

There are no quick fixes at North. But will be nice to see them back up in the top 4 in over the next several years. It’s good for footy.

He didn’t rebuild and instead he traded in players. They initially stayed in the finals after the fourth premiership but then fell off the cliff.

All he did was delay the rebuild and that kick the can down the road list management isn’t sound.

A nature progression is normal but Clarkson didn’t want to rebuild.

People are focusing on the successful period for Clarkson and forgetting the list he had and how that was crafted.
