honestly the way i look at it; this is a simple trade for essendon:

Out: Stringer, Shiel, H. Jones + 2023 first round pick & Dyson Heppell in 2024. Or perhaps do a 1 for 1 with Darcy Parish, both are invaluable assets :)
In: Oliver, Future 2nd round pick

think about it this way; you get 2 highly sought after players (Shiel + Stringer) who'll easily be able to fill the gaping maw left by Oliver leaving. Harrison Jones, while having some back issues, should be easily able to fit into your forward line.

Nothing simpler than that if you ask me. Get it done Dodo!

Nothing like trading a bunch of trash assets for a gun. Are you sure you’re not playing in my dads 2016 nfl fantasy league?

Exactly. And the only player i could concede being better is Bont
I’d take Petracca over Oliver every day of the week and twice on Sunday’s. A few others too, but I concede your real point. He’s pretty bloody good and is worth a king’s ransom on the open market. Sometimes stars don’t quite return a king’s ransom as they should though, and teams often have to settle for something more akin to a prince’s bounty.

nah m8 never touched a fantasy league, i like real things, ya get what i mean.

it's a simple trade if you ask me, in their prime, stringer and shiel were double the player oliver was in their prime, we're basically gifting melbourne their chance to get another premiership with those trades. besides, it's clear they want to offload him, so give him to a club that'll appreciate him!

Just a simple question, why all this talk/chatter about Oliver moving if there isn't something very significant going on?

He is a very, very good player no one can deny.

My thinking:
1: Its about oliver i.e. injury, attitude, persistent drug use; or
2: Club.... no cash here or awful environment.

What else could the reasoning be?

PS - strange as well, the entire Grundy shemozzle

Not sure which is worse, the 'ignorance is bliss' Dees fans overlooking a trade situation that's looking A LOT like the Treloar/Grundy debacle, or the Crows supporters wanting to hand over their first unborn child at the first whiff of a premium non-SA born player POSSIBLY wanting to come here.

If there truly has been a falling out, and the silence IS deafening from Dees HQ, then you can expect unders if Oliver asks to be traded to Adelaide. Do Dees have an imminent cap issue? 7 years @ $7 million doesn't come without its risks, and here it is in all its glory...

He will be 27 next year. A lot of Dees pointing out accolades within the past 4-5 years, but i know i'd much rather those 7 years fell within ages 24-30 than 27-33...., there will be a drop off at that end of the age profile. There's no doubt he would still be quality, but not like the years that have gone behind him

Fairly decent hamstring injury this season might have Dees wondering about durability?

Dees fans are on a different level of delusion if they think we'll honour that full contract AND cough up multiple 1st round draft picks, recent history would suggest you're in for a bit of pain at the trade table.

Unfortunately Melbourne haven't learned from the Bulldogs handling of the Stinger situation. If you're happily driving him towards the trade block, the player loses some value. If the player has had multiple indiscretions, he will lose some value. No matter how good they are.

Some of the trade suggestions equivalent to 3 first round picks in value is ridiculous. He is not peak Gary Ablett Jr. He is a gun player, and he will net them something good. But I wouldn't be expecting a kings ransom for him, given the two things above. You lose some trade leverage.

Well, you're technically correct.
Stringer + Shiel = 2 players
Oliver = 1 player
That's double alright.

This reminds me of the Treloar and Ben Brown situations.

There’s no walking it back if the board gives the green light to trade him tonight.

It’s a fire sale and Melbourne will be taking unders.
Melbourne would have to be very very incompetent to publicly announce that they are open to trading.

It's more likely they will say "we will listen to offers and speak to Oliver, but he is a required player with a contract and we expect him to play here next year".

When that premium player is in a position of need, and we're on the clock to win a flag now (Dawson is not getting any younger and showed this year he's capable of being a line leading midfielder), I'm handing my first unborn child over to do it.

not the place for it 😝 trade board is a bit less inclined to see a joke as a joke

Those words are just another way of saying he’s up for trade.

Dees played better when he was out. With a s**t forward line and team performing with him out doesn’t it make sense to test the market to rebalance the team?
Sounds like a plan.

Happy to trade McAdam for Oliver & we will throw in 2x 1st rounders for good measure.

Win/win.

I'm just not sure how Adelaide get the trade done if its true.

They don't have the draft picks and any of the players that the demons may want are untouchable
Would imagine a possible 3 way deal with GC - they end up with crows F1 and pick 20 and maybe Doedee compo. Melbourne get Crows picks 4, 9 & 22 and McAdam and crows get Burgess and Oliver.

Would leave the Dee's with picks 4, 5, 9, 13 & 25 (before any compo picks). Maybe Melbourne can then engage with North for pick 2 with 4 & 9 and then WCE may accept 2, 5 & 13 for 1

With the possible picks up for grabs, there may be a pathway WCE will accept that involves crows picks and the GC pick 4???

like grundy was a required player mid year wasnt he?

Think the Dee's know something that they're keeping to themselves.

Not many players are out for 12 weeks with a hammy. Big doubts his body will hold up for the duration of the contract.
10 weeks not 12 apparently.

9 + F1 + 21 + McAdam

Maybe throw in 24 with 33 going back

Still unders but you couldn’t ask for much more if you were kicking him out.

Dees go and get Reid or GC pick 4 from there.

The problem is even if 9 and adel fr1 gets 4 off gc i dont see 4 and 5 getting 1 off wce. So if im melb i just keep oliver and sell him next year (when they will get picks in a better draft next year). Theres no reason for melb to trade oliver if it doesnt get them reid.

kidding yourself. Oliver a proven generational talent for a speculative pick 2 that has a 50% chance of busting. Laughable proposal. What are the odds that Harley Reid is a 4 time AA bnF winner, 3 time AA and 2 AFLCA 's by 26? 1% chance? Maybe 2% chance.

The odds of Harley Reid surpassing Oliver is next to zero.
He's clearly damaged goods. No way you'd be allowing him to leave the club on a massive deal if he didn't have demons. You will get unders for him. You better hope North offer 2 for him because you wont get a better deal from the crows. Your post season is looking a lot like ours did in 2007.
