More I think about it the more likely I think its a discussion with Gold Coast happening.

Hardwick probably thinks he can help Oliver and fix the issues, he probably thinks they have enough assets to get a deal done without losing the core top 10.

In giving up pick 5, trading away future 1st + future 2nd to and trading away Hollands/Chol/Burgess they probably feel they can get it all done
what are these so called issues? anyone know? or people love to make stuff up 😀

I’ve heard Doggies are right into him. He’s got connections to Laitham Vandermeer and apparently Laith has been talking to him.

Dogs would look to move Lobb on to clear up 500k and I would think Baz to Geelong this season would become likely. Would give them more picks to please the dees, as well as create the cap space for Clarry’s deal.

Smith to Geelong for pick 8 + 40 odd. Pick 10 + 17 for pick 5

Pick 5 + 8 + Lobb for Oliver

Its done

5 more years in the window mate :) Remember when you said Melbourne's backline wasn't good and you rated Cam Rayner 😀

No links either.

Danny, do you know what Oliver tatoo'd onto his foot? Would love to know.

Miller, Rowell and Anderson is a brilliant starting midfield trio.
It doesn't make sense for the Suns.

This is a really interesting one.

What he is worth is not what Melb will get IMO.
This entire post is predicated on IF's and Buts.....its all just speculation at this stage.

No club in the right mind are going to pay max draft /players & max cap resources for a single player.....just not happening.

IF melb want him gone
.....then no club is paying what he is worth in draft capital & taking his 7 year circa $1M contract on.
So Melb either pony up massive cap payments for the duration of what they owe him in fav of better draft capital, or they take the hit to free up cap space.
Wont get it both ways.
I suspect the contribution of cap would have to be massive to make it the "2x top 10" a reality.....

IF Oliver wants out
Melb again won't get what he is worth because they don't have a position of power. He just hangs around and takes good coin for 7 years playing VFL (not that he would do that...but just using an extreme to make a point).
So they won't keep him for cultural reasons if this is the case.
He may agree to tear up the contract if he is the one instigating it, but again that would mean he effectively 'quits'....which means the club that wants him are bargaining from a position of power.

Of course Melb will come out and say "we'll look at offers for what he is worth"....what do you expect them to say?

I actually don't think many clubs have both the cap space & draft picks for someone that seems to have a lot of unsubstantiated rumors floating around (smoke and fire and all that stuff).

This one will be fascinating to watch unfold (if indeed it actually unfolds).

Yeh honestly makes a fair bit of sense to me but wait and see.

I’ve thought for a while the dogs might be surprisingly active in the trade period. Feel like Bevo and Co are desperate to win now after a bad season and failed off-season moves last season.

A coach and list management team under pressure, is the sort of mixture to make a crazy big move.

That's not what i said, i was referring to your bullshit post of doing a deal for Oliver and packaging our other picks for pick 1.

Oliver himself is worth pick 1.

I'm aware of the Oliver issues this year, he has had some personal stuff going on in his life and also didn't cope well with his first serious injury (and did something stupid to make his injury worse). But at no stage has he indicated he wants to leave.

No player is untradeable however it would take a massive offer to get Melbourne's interest. North's first 2 picks for Oliver and a later 1st rounder would be more likely than the crud you were suggesting. and then the other club would have to convince Oliver to leave.
You may believe that Oliver is worth pick one alone but I doubt too many recruiters would happily give that pick up for him, which means he isn't.

Melbourne have put him on the table which suggests they are happy to give him up for the right price, which won't be pick one.

But they won't get that for him in a straight swap, which means it is possible they try to package something up to get him.

You can call me a a nuffy for suggesting that but I think the Melbourne supporters currently in denial thinking they may get something outlandish for a guy they are pushing out the door is more in nuff territory than what I was suggesting.

The most obvious attempted click bait from trade radio to get people to pay attention to it before anything can officially happen.

Absolutely zero chance this goes anywhere
It's true.....Melbourne didn't respond to a email from Tom Morris straight away and we Tom knows all.

I dont agree. he is worth a million dollars a season. So a club would just be paying his worth. Oliver is no 850k a season player. He's top shelf 1m.

lol this is drivel.
Contracted player so no matter what Melbourne have the upper hand unless its pure salary dump, which it isn't.
All this talk about off field behaviour yet he has one of the best records by age 25 of any player in history. People really are smooth brains now hey.

7 years, 7 million contract is not pushing put the door mate.

Smith to Geelong for pick 8 + 40 odd. Pick 10 + 17 for pick 5

Pick 5 + 8 + Lobb for Oliver

Its done
In terms of value, it's actually not bad at all.
Not sure that another ball winner is really what WB need however. Nor is the cap hit given who they have out of contract next offseason.
That and you would have to convince Lobb to go.
Other than that though :thumbsu:

Melbourne would be absolutely mad to trade him
Depends what's actually going on. If Melbourne have done all they can to help this guy off field and he is continually throwing it back in their face then he may not be giving them much choice. This is IF he actually has off field dramas.

There are certainly players who are untradeable. After all, they're the one contention windows are built around.

Unless there is a genuine level of buyers remorse with that contract, Oliver would surely be in that list. Mids of that quality don't grow on trees.
