Guthrie will have one more year I think of decent money, Jez is a big contract but it's the only million dollar one on the books. Blitz I don't think is huge money but he's one of the only ones contracted. Stewart a decent but not outlandish contract. Holmes again isn't huge but his next will be.

We actually are in danger of planning around the cap floor. Need Smith at the very least to prevent having to overpay kids.

I think you’d turn him around under Chris Scott. Goodwin is a moron by all reports who fostered this culture and environment whereas Scott would be the opposite.

May not be the worst deal in the world.

Yeah but everyone thought that about Jack Steven and Mitch Clarke. Not all issues can be solved with fresh ocean air and a supportive coach

Nobody is taking Oliver's contract on. Melbourne would need to pay a decent portion and throw in some quality draft picks to make it happen. They had a chance to cut their losses last year. Their best play now is to hold him and try to help him sort himself out.

melbourne dont even have salary cap issues, obviously they would have budgeted oliver contract rises through the years. who they going to spend the money on if they trade away oliver?

Melbourne have plenty of salary cap room. Brayshaw retiring early and we'll get some concessions there and Tom Mcdonald and Brown are both on pretty pricey back ended contracts so that should free things up a lot. Clayton just needs to get back into shape. Clubs still rate him as that's why they send their number 1 tagger to him most weeks so I back him in to turn things around next season. I didn't expect him to be playing before the Bye with the off-season that he's had but there's no excuse to still be carrying all of that excess weight.

Doesn't look great as of now, but if he can pull his head out of his arse and get back to his best, then all is fine.
Was only a couple of seasons ago that everyone was trying to say that Cripps was cooked.
Since then, he's won a Brownlow, led the team to their 1st finals appearance in a long time and looking to back it up again, with another strong Brownlow showing looking good and captaining the team to the currently 2nd best record.

Obviously Cripps didn't have the off-field issues that Clarry has been facing, but it's not impossible for him to turn it around. Depends on how much he wants it.

Yeah no ones taking on a $1.2-$1.3 million, 6 year contract.

It's hard to fathom Dees giving him that deal given they apparently knew he had issues at the time. Add the $1mill+ that they have to pay out on Brayshaws crazy deal and Dees have some serious dead TPP space.

Keep an eye out for him, he would benefit the club who could facilitate his last chance saloon scenario.

Clubs like essendon and geelong usually think they could with their earlier interest in Thomas.

dont think you know what last chance saloon means, he is guaranteed 1 mill plus till he is 33 years old, well past the average retire age of afl footballers.

he also won a flag already.

And you do? Okay mate.

He's guaranteed 1 mil...not if the club wants to get rid off him like collingwood got rid off trelor after 5 year deal.

Particularly not if his current form continues.

They cant not give him his money, Melbourne have 2 options:

1. Keep him and hold him to his contract, while paying what the contract stipulated
2. Try to find another club to take that contract on

Either way Clayton is getting his money. As long as he keeps rocking up to training each week he gets a big paycheck

The only way out of it for Melbourne is if they get Clayton to agree to taking a paycut for no reason. Nobody would agree to that

Think we will hold him.

With most of Brayshaw off the books, Grundy, Harmes, Hibberd gone and Gawn & May close to retirement we genuinely will struggle to hit the minimum payment cap soon. Throw in Ben Brown, Melksham and Tom McDonald also close to retirement.

Cap isn’t an issue so it doesn’t make sense to offload picks for even more cap space when we for the most part don’t have the young cattle to demand huge contracts.

If anything we will probably have the cap space to take other clubs offloads if we really wanted.
