Speculation Clayton Oliver [UFA 2030]

wait but you were just saying hes worth 2x FRP's?
He thinks he's still a 95 rated player on AFL Evolution or something, but his most recent season he played like a 65 rated player + severe behaviour issues. Definitely someone you want to shell out 2 FRPs for.

They shopped him around behind his back last year, then tried to walk it back.
Kiss and make up end of 2023.
Then, out of nowhere, the fricking President starts shopping him around at the end of 2024, then act shocked when he decides to nominate which club he wants to go to.

Melbourne are a shambles and their supporters are delusional.

So u gave him 10 million reasons to do what ever he wants.
BRILLIANT!! Simply BRILLIANT!!
The MFC. The gift that keeps giving.
Only the MFC could have had a nap on the couch when a dynasty came a knocking at the door.
Cheers and best of luck with whatever happens going forward bud.

How’s that excitement for pick 5 going?

I reckon Gary Pert knows he is probably getting the sack with the review & went rogue shopping Oliver around to blow the place up, almost like bringing the ship down with him.

Sounds like Geelong have until tonight to put forward a suitable trade to the Dees or they miss out. Ball is now in Cats court.

Waiting to announce it until tonight has given Cats the window they need to up the offer.

Geelong are not upping the offer mate.

trade period doesn't even start for another 3 days so I guess you're right, if Melbourne expects the trade done by tonight then it won't be happening

Geelong don't have to do a thing, he either wants out or not, he either wants to go to the Cats or not. It sounds like the Demons are back peddling after finding out his stocks are not as valuable as they thought? It's been a mess for the past two years and the Demons don't know what to do as the left hand is telling the right hand something completely different. He can stay if he wants, but he is their player until 2030, it's up to Melbourne!

huh? what are you banging on about. 'to do whatever he wants'...yeah, that's why we're shopping him around..your logic is deeply flawed. You realise if Oliver goes to Geelong, then you'd be the ones paying him 10 million? lol.

The Gift that keeps giving? Yeah the 2021 gift was great.

are you listening to yourself? Petracca wants to go to Carlton. Is he going to Carlton? No. Why? Carlton have no picks. Same thing with Oliver.

Too late for that. He's 27 with only another three years of good footy left in him.

We tried it with Mitch Clark who was the same age and it didn't work out.
Tyson Stengle has been a success but he was fairly young (23) at the time of signing up.
haha comparing Oliver with Stengel and Mitch Clark. Gotta love Bigfooty. The Geelong board was frothing over getting him, it went into overdrive with about 10 pages in 1 day. Now that he's staying, Geelong fans criticise the dees' decisions :) Embarrassing stuff.

Considerably different. The Oliver saga has been going on for a couple of years. Geelong don't have to do a goddamn thing, no skin of their nose if he stays, at the moment he's Melbourne's problem and his stocks are not as high as they once were. Oliver holds all the aces, he's got a long term highly paid contract that Melbourne appear to regret giving to him, at any rate he will get paid until 2030 when turns 33! Geelong will move on Smith and someone else if need be...i doubt they're sweating on the Oliver deal.

It feels a little bit like Treloar to the Dogs (with the extra spice of Oliver's reputation). Oliver is seemingly falling into Geelong's lap, its not something they've actively targeted so its really all gravy for them

Especially if it's accurate that Pert only called teams at the bottom of the laddar and as soon as Clayton found out he was the one who contacted Geelong

Melbourne should be doing everything possible to get this contract off their books.

The Oliver and Petracca contracts are going to have them hamstrung in their rebuild for years.

I'd be looking to move on Petracca as well. If he manages to come back at 80% of a player that he was which is debatable, then he won't be much better than an average mid. Average mid is worth somewhere in the range of 600 - 800k, not 1.8mil a year.

You say considerably different yet don't go on to explain any differences. Geelong clearly think they can turn Oliver around. Melbourne will back themselves in to do the same. They just don't want to pour the resources into him. And rightly so.

agreed. but the afl screwed us over by not allowing the trading of future picks (2 years in advance).

That's fine. But to get these contracts off your books, you can't expect much back.

And even still, maybe it's better to swallow that bitter pill in the short term than to keep them for the long term.

Really unfortunate that two long term contracts for absolute superstars at the time of signing have gone south.

Not all Geelong fans were happy about it.
It's great news in my view.

Really compromises another contender in the coming years when better free agents are opting to head back home to Victoria 🤫
