There cutting your losses with Oliver and there’s accepting a F2 and 50% of his wage for 6 years.

Would be the correct thing to do. AFL needs more stars and losing Oliver to mental health @ the Dees wouldnt be profitable at the AFL.
AFLPA (Danger) in talks with Oliver. Supposedly Oliver is punting next year as well if he doesnt get to the GFC.
AFLPA putting the press on Melbourne to do the deal. 50% retention + 2nd rounder from the dees.

that's correct. And if he plays well, he'll be worth double. It's a big year for Clayton.Geelong can just wait another year.. If he has another bad season he will be worth close to nothing next year with that contract.
You’re right he would be worth nothing in trade but Geelong would still need to take on his salary which I’m not sure how they make that work. Because it’s fanciful if they think Melbourne are actually going to keep paying half his salaryGeelong can just wait another year.. If he has another bad season he will be worth close to nothing next year with that contract.

But I love how everyone is critical of Melbourne for not trading a player that wants out but there's many clubs that are doing the same thing. GWS are playing hardball over Wade Derksen who has said he wants to leave. So it's just because Clayton is high profile that mfc gets the backlash.
Sometimes I think opposition supporters look at how Geelong has been so successfully run for the past 16 or so years and wish their club could do the same. Players like Dangerfield, Stewart, Stengle and Cameron could command much higher dollars at other clubs, but it isn't always about the money. Hell, Isaac Smith was offered a ridiculous contract by MFC but chose Geelong for lifestyle reasons. We only have about 4 players contracted beyond 2026.
We've got half a dozen premiership players that won't be on our list from next year, replaced with guys like Ollie Dempsey and Lawson Humphries.
That premiership team also had a good chunk of players that came from the rookie list, so aren't on big bucks even after resigning, Stengle being the exception.
Sometimes I think people see us linked to players and add their value to our salary cap but never remove them if the trade doesn't happen
No its notumm yes. twice the player. Multiple BnFs, AA's, and 2x afl coaches award. Awards coming out of his ears.
I would rephrase the question, you're in your flag window and you can only take 1 player for the next 3 years, which one are you taking? Clearly it's Oliver.
What do you expect? the guy was waking up in ambulances, snapping windscreen wipers and rocking up to pre-season 10kg overweight. Don't put this on Melbourne! This is 100% on Oliver. Fancy expecting to feel wanted after his behaviour.
Gawn, Petracca, Oliver…..starting to get speculative after that. Viney? Lever? May? Who else?Sometimes I think opposition supporters look at how Geelong has been so successfully run for the past 16 or so years and wish their club could do the same. Last week the HUN reported a list of the number of highly paid players on each AFL team list in 2024. Geelong had 3 assumed to be Cameron, Dangerfield and Stewart. Melbourne, for example, had 8.
Bailey Smith is coming off an Acl and has documented mental health issues. He is arguably more risky. No its not
That's why I'd take Smith.

clearly we want to trade him. but for a fair price.Heaps of players are fine coming off ACL's, hell one just won a Norm Smith and had a ripping 2nd half of the year. Granted Smith does have a bit of history with mental health but it absolutely pales in comparison to Oliver. It is also telling that for the 2nd year in a row Melbourne don't really know what to do with him.
Which is absolutely fair enough, there's just zero takers on that tradeclearly we want to trade him. but for a fair price.
And if nobody is willing to pay the "fair" price you have to wonder if it's really a fair price.Which is absolutely fair enough, there's just zero takers on that trade
Whatever it is its not going to be close enough to Melbourne expectations to get a trade to happen. And if nobody is willing to pay the "fair" price you have to wonder if it's really a fair price.
Don't take this away from Barrett, he needs thisCh 10 running with Oliver still wants to be a cat.
This just won’t die off.
A cockroach in trade rumour form?Ch 10 running with Oliver still wants to be a cat.
This just won’t die off.
You the one that called up TR, saying it's a 'human rights violation'?Would be the correct thing to do. AFL needs more stars and losing Oliver to mental health @ the Dees wouldnt be profitable at the AFL.

He won't be worth chasing with such a big contract if he has another season like this year, will need to accept a big pay cut to move or stay at Melbourne and "earn" his millions.Geelong can just wait another year.. If he has another bad season he will be worth close to nothing next year with that contract.
