I wouldnt say that only the good die young. Ron MacIntosh was no spring chicken but was a top bloke.
Yes but I was talking more in terms of talent that is often lost young. Clinton Grybas was near enough to the best commentator in the business. And no, I'm not trying to turn this into a Hendrix/Morrison issue. :D
Id like to send my condolences to the Grybas family. The hurt that we feel for losing a great commentator pales in comparison to the hurt that his mum, dad, partner and brother are feeling at this very time.

Great call. :thumbsu:

... I gotta say, this has hit me by far more than any other celebrity/personally unknown death that I can remember. ...

it's very sad. Matt Price's passing affected people in a similar way, so did Mainwarings. Some commentators/ journos seem merely to annoy, but some like Grybas and Price almost become part of people's lives, such are their genuine communication skills. and to lose them at such a young age!

Definately my favourite TV Commentator, and one of the best on radio too.

Loved his work not only on calling games, but also his work on Pre-Game Fox Footy, White Line Fever and other stuff like the Boxing. Really knowledgeable and smart guy when it came to footy, and indeed all sports he covered. Will be greatly missed. RIP. Condolences(sp?) to his family and friends.

Just finished listening to Clinton's mother Sandra being interviewed by Neil Mitchell and Nick McCallum on 3AW - emotionally stuff.
Sincere condolences to his family and girlfriend Laurenna.

Listening to 3AW sport will never be quite the same.

If there's one thing that amazes me, it's that why not one FTA channel ever offered Clinton Grybas the chance to join their network such as Channel Nine for instance. Clinton Grybas would've been good doing Nine's cricket, NRL, tennis, horseracing and Olympic coverage, as well as AFL.

Not just a sports caller, he is one of the best media personalities in the business, especially when there is a significant lack of talent these days. He could have host any shows on TV. He can call a game, interview, host, and MC. It amazes me that he is only 32 and he's been doing his job since his 20's. A tragic loss.
RIP mate!

Some things we cannot control, the rain, sun, moon, and anothers life.
I'm not so sure about that, and hopefully an autopsy can determine what actually happened so it may help others in the future. The cause of his death still appears to be a mystery.

Late to the scene, but want to add my 2c.

Grybas' quality was marked by his almost-complete absence from the "which AFL journalist I detest the most" lists that regularly crop up on BF. There is a reason for that- he communicated without grandstanding, got to the bottom of issues without rampant self promotion and nauseating catchphrases and above all, MADE SURE HE KNEW HIS SHIT. He might have been caught out on occaision- and haven't we all- but overall he knew his place in the AFL firmament and fulfilled his duty with aplomb.

RIP Clinton, a talent lost way too soon.

I'm gutted. He was a great caller, up there with the best and seemed an absolute gentleman. Will be obviously missed by the footabll community but my thoughts are more importantly with his family and friends. R.I.P. :(

My family are shocked and saddened by Clinton's passing.

He will be sorely missed, as he was a great asset to our game

Many thanks Clinton - RIP

I haven't posted yet and I suppose that's to do with others posting what I've been thinking, but what a loss. I didn't know the guy but like many others I had a fair bit of respect for him.

I only subscribed to Fox last year but in that short time he'd become my favorite commentator. I can imagine how much harder it must be for those who have had Fox for much longer.

I heard someone say on the radio that he's a big loss for us footy lovers, but that pales in comparison with what his loved ones and friends must be going through. I wish them strength during this traumatic time.

You will be missed Clinton.

He was a great caller and it seems a great person. Caroline Wilson's article about him was well written and right on the money. I don't say this too often but well done Caro.:thumbsu:

He seemed to have the perfect life, doing what he loved, being good at it and having a beautiful partner. Read the interview with her in today's sun and it almost brought a tear to my eye. She said he always put her first even with all that he had going on and he was an even better bloke than he appeared in the media. Gone way too soon but he at least lived his life to the full.

RIP Clinton.

On the subject of Caro's article, it really was fantastic. I dont think it is so much her journalistic skills which are normally doubted, but more so her subject matter or in many cases choice of target. However this article did not have such a problem.

I like that she did not try to claim they were best friends, but shared personal stories that reflected on Clinton as a person and not just the Media personality

Surely even the biggest NOOB sports journo would think this was worth a story?
