Club Champion

Congrats to Priddis and duly rewarded for his effort after a couple of close seconds. Can tell how much the award, and being the first Worsfold medalist meant to him as well.

Gaff finishing ahead of Masten is a noteworthy decision but what I don't get is how Hill finished top 10. That's more baffling than Gaff ahead of Masten for me and possibly speaks volumes of a bad season.

Congrats also to Sellers on winning the best club man. Well deserved recognition and Lycett on winning best first player (even in his third year...). Think it would have been fitting to announce the new jumper number for Ellis, Yeo, Sheed, Karpany, Barrass, Main, Maginnes and Powell last night but will hopefully see that announced next week

What that Ploddus is useless?

Has just won the Club Champion award, after twice finishing runner-up (including losing the 2011 award on a countback) and finishing in the top 10 every year since 2007. And just to counter your next argument, which is that the coaching staff over-rate him, he's also won the Christian Medal, awarded by the ABC commentators for the best WA-based player, and made the 40-man All Australian extended squad.

But yeah, completely useless footballer

god i have issues with jeff newman. and in particular him having a ring on his pinky. whose idea was that I wonder? how try hard look-at-me-i-am-old-but-i-want-to-be-young-and-modern can you get?

seriously, only people who read the weather and become celebrities should be hot girls. I am sure he has done great things in community, but so have many other people. I never saw mother theresa have a crazy ass ring on her pinky. i am sorry, but i find it pretentious.

Gaff averaged lower votes per game than Masten. Hill got in mainly because the only other players to play 17 or more games were DDD and Brown, both of whom aren't very good.

Well, minus the roll eyes, you nailed it in that last sentence ... Shaun MacManus 2.0. Getting rid of Matt will be addition by subtraction .... :p

Says you and other nuff nuffs like Eagle87.

I'd be interested to know what level of football you both reached if any at all. o_O

Reality is there are many football people who actually have a clue who think otherwise. They include those who judge football awards both within and outside the club, the players, the coaches, opposition coaches and opposition players.

Priddis is not Chris Judd but the guy has worked his guts out to get the very best he can out of himself, he's a team oriented player who is hard at it and very consistent. There are plenty of natural footballers who could be better than Priddis but don't make it because they lack the work ethic and have no heart.

Every good team needs players like him, why? Because every team can't fill their list with top 10 picks, they need lower picks and rookie players to work their butts off and develop into very good footballers and that is exactly what Priddis is, a very good footballer. Not elite but very good.

The lack of respect shown by you and others by calling players such as Priddis "useless" is seriously disappointing not to mention embarrassing (for you that it!).

Happy he finally got the B&F, which he could have already won a few times but fell tragically short. A really genuine nice guy as well. 7 straight B&F top 10s is a testament to how prominent he has been for us post-premiership.

I feel in that finally cracking the B&F, he can retire happy. If he starts to decline in the next year or so, wont be as much of a blow now.

Let me say that Priddis deserved the medal. And this reveals the fact that we are an average football team who finished 13th.

If Priddis was in Hawthorns team he wouldn't have made the top 10.

He isnt a useless footballer, just that he isnt an A grader like Ablett, Judd & Co.

The last point I will make is don't be surprised if Simpson changes his role and he isn't "relied" on so much anymore. We cant go forward in our midfield if it rotates around him.

Do we need another thread or can we discuss the pressing issue of Masten here? What do we make of his lack of polling? We have always viewed him as someone liked by the MC because he was only ever dropped to the WAFL once and held his spot when many thought he wasn't player at the requisite standard. Does it indicate that he may play a more prominant role under Simo? Or does it show that the MC thought he can play much better than he did?

Yeah I find that interesting.

I always think he performs his role well and he seems to be one of the first picked each week. But does not get the love from the club. Not half as many articles about his hard working nature as Priddis'. Its been pointed out many a time about how in the past peoples views of him are but perhaps our club are stuck somewhere in between because of the external views of him?

Edit - actually i guess for hard working articles you can't go past the TTHD mentions in pre-season. However I always suspected early on that they were carrots to the fans that "this might be the year Masten smashes it".

You really want a discussion about football credentials?

Mine have been provided previously. Suffice to say as high a level as say every level Sheed has played at to date ....

How about you? :)

From what I remember Shuey was one of the few who did well against Crowley in one of the derbies.

His clearance work wasn't bad. But his outside run was squashed, hard to running away dragging another 85kgs.

And we performed so well in 2011 because clubs still bothered to waste their time tagging Priddis and Kerr, which is pointless because it's hard to stop players at the ball drop. Fast forward to mid 2012 and the attention moved to our runners and elite distributors.

The fact he's not warranted a tag for so long is telling. Priddis is the public servant of AFL midfielders. If you can't hurt sides when you're off the leash then you're not close to elite.
