AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Claiming a Ross Glendinning medal is like boasting about a best on ground against North Melbourne. It doesn't define a players career like a Brownlow or Norm Smith. It's such a shit claim to fame claiming that Glendinning medal.Over the course of his career Priddis has received the following recognition of his performance from both internal club and external sources:
2006: Sandover Medal
2007: WCE Rookie of the Year
2010: Runner Up Club Champion
2011: Runner Up Club Champion
2011: Ross Glendinning medallist
2011: Geoff Christian medallist
In Brownlow voting he has polled at least 7 votes in every year since 2007. He has been the highest polling Eagle in several of those years, and has finished top 10 overall once, and top 20 on two other occasions.
IMO a person has to have a reasonable level of talent, ability and performance to achieve these results, and given the result in non-club related awards, cannot be solely attributed to club favoritism, club voting systems, or general incompetence by Worsfold and the match committee.
Priddis has many attributes that he brings to the club, not the least of which are his durability and consistency. He rarely misses a game through injury, and he performs at a consistently solid/good level each week. I believe it is these two factors that go a long way towards his ability to attract award votes on a regular basis. He does not perform at a stellar level that the absolute stars of the competition achieve, or have a mixture of outstanding games and poor games. He just is always on the field, and performing solidly. I imagine most teams have similar players.
The fact that he narrowly won this year's club championship is largely a reflection of the fact that a lot of our star players had seasons that were disrupted by injury, and thus could not receive votes, while Priddis as usual was there giving his solid contribution. I think that this is what people should be concentrating on and taking out of this years votes, rather than blaming the system, or the match committee's votes.
There are a couple of people on this board who constantly, continuously and forcefully voice their negative opinions on Priddis on this board, and that this has led many others to similarly focus on his negatives, while dismissing, ignoring and belittling his many positives.
He is not a competition super star like other award winners such as Chris Judd, Ben Cousins or even Darren Glass, but he is a consistent, hard working, team oriented good player, and I believe it is most unfair that many supporters hold him responsible for other inadequecies in the team and its performance.
Top 10 in order:
EMac
Kennedy
Glass
Priddis
Masten
Darling
Cox
Gaff
Selwood
Brown
Rookie of the Year: Lycett
Best Clubman: A.Selwood
The Recruiters
Seriously, we have wasted that many picks in the last few years. Papertalk?? Bedford?? Morton?? Broome?? seriously what were they thinking? If you could give me three good reasons why they picked those players up, I'd be very surprised.
Fact... the much maligned midfielder is considered the best consistent player at the club, for the season, by the most informed people to judge.
As a player the endorsement by your coaches and your peers is all that matters in the end. That's a good thing for Priddis... because in 'cyberspace' there are plenty of loud obnoxious arm chair warriors ready to cut the bloke down.
Congrats on winning the club champion award for 2013.
Why don't we go down to the High school athletics carnivals and just pick up the quickest runners there then? They'd be speculative picks it won't matter if they fail.
It's like that what the Eagles recruiters think at times. Why not pick up a proven player at state level, at least you know they might be able to cope. We picked up a Papertalk who was struggling to get 10 disposals in the WAFL reserves. seriously?? You can't honestly back that up as a good selection?
Morton - Was clearly proven not to be upto AFL standard, watch a wafl game this year, he was barely upto that standard. Yeah but your gonna say he was a top 5 draft pick!! Yeah but playing big boys footy is a little different to U18s
Bedford - Delisted by Geelong and was clearly never going to make it.
Broome - I didn't mind so much, he was at least someone who had showed a bit prior to getting drafted (four or five goals in a wafl colts grand final I think?) The other three all mentioned above had either struggled and were clearly not up to the level or hadn't shown enough to even consider being drafted. chuck in Oakley nicholls too.
EDIT ** Yeah I'm not really sure why ive posted this here ** Maybe move please mods??
without going back through the stats or record books when Priddis doesnt play , our midfield gets really flogged . Im not saying priddis is really great its just that we dont have enough tough nuts in and under and if we had players llike Judd or cousins or similar users of the balls priddis dishes out , priddis would look better
you have to remember, Priddis works his guts out week in week out and rarely has a poor game..
We don't have enough quality inside mids (Priddis despite being slow is by far our best)
I don't even know what im going on about anymore
I agree EMac was very unlucky, but Priddis finishing high in our B&F is isnt the reason for our season going bad.
He finished 2nd in 2011 when we made the top 4...wasnt an indictment then.
The views of Priddis on here have become completely out of whack with reality
