I'm baffled as to how Masten can finish just above Hill and below Cox, Selwood, Gaff. Even our own club don't rate him! when you look at our top ten for the b&f then our whole list you realize there is a hell of a lot of room for improvement. I'm actually feeling more optimistic slightly now for next year. Shuey/Wellingham/Natanui/Hurn going to be important.

I like Pridda, he's a great bloke who is hard to dislike but seeing him win the B&F is kind of deflating.

On another note, its pretty funny that the club website had been pumping up Masten all year as having a 'break out' year and then he finishes so low in the 'woosha medal'. WCE media department and coaches not quite on the same page.

So how is the Priddis named 2013 Club Champion meltdown thread going?:D

Obviously the planets aligned nicely for Priddis to win this year.

Shuey missed games injured with his hammie.
Selwood missed games with his fractured hand.
Cox struggled with his back.
Naitanui never really made it onto the park
Gaff had a off year because he got the tag that usually followed Priddis previously.
Kerr was a no go.
Hurn missed a lot of games.
Waters missed a lot of games.
Wellingham hardly played.

Masten coming 9th is interesting.

So really it ended up being the next best most durable player who won.

Pretty much summed up why we failed to make finals. Priddis I rate as a good footballer but those listed above are better than him.

Congratulations to Priddis as he was our best most consistent player in 2013. Hopefully all those above poll better than him next year and we make finals. :thumbsu:

Club champion award always goes to the most consistent and usually whoever has played the most games. Its no surprise Priddis won it.

Sure, but in reality we have a number of better players who should not have let Priddis anywhere near the award. It is both a huge compliment to Priddis' professionalism and a massive indictment that the club couldn't produce a better player than Matt Priddis in 2013.

It happens. Look at Freo last year. Crowley won it. Crowley!

A pretty big indictment on our year. Priddis winning sums up our club's overall averageness, lack of dynamic skill or vision, our lack of flexibility, our inability to match it with the best midfields/teams and our rewarding of honest tryers who aren't taking our club anywhere. How fitting.

Emac robbed.

If you care to check the game points average and games played, you will note that Mac. was second due to playing one game less than Priddis.
That game that Priddis got knocked out in the first few minutes was obviously the one that got him over the line.

Oddly true.

Just making the 22 gets you votes. If Priddis had say banged his head getting off the team bus and was ruled out then Mackenzie would likely have won ...

I agree EMac was very unlucky, but Priddis finishing high in our B&F is isnt the reason for our season going bad.
He finished 2nd in 2011 when we made the top 4...wasnt an indictment then.

The views of Priddis on here have become completely out of whack with reality

I meant it more symbolically than literally. I know our b&f has always rewarded those that play the most games with a specified sorta role.

Symbolically though, it sums up what was wrong with our club in many areas this year.

The voting system needs a total overhaul, for Masten to finish behind Gaff is a joke. Mckenzie or Kennedy should have won. Hill in the top 10??

It gives too much advantage to players who play every game.

The Top 10 is odd. Cox was poor this year; Priddis, even by his own standard, was below par; Jack Darling had a season that was all over the shop and regressed somewhat. And that's 60% of our best 5.

As I previously posted, players to play 17 or more games and not make the top ten were Brown and DDD. It was literally a year of survival of the fittest rather than amazing performances. We had a dirty year and it shows.

Over the course of his career Priddis has received the following recognition of his performance from both internal club and external sources:

2006: Sandover Medal
2007: WCE Rookie of the Year
2010: Runner Up Club Champion
2011: Runner Up Club Champion
2011: Ross Glendinning medallist
2011: Geoff Christian medallist

In Brownlow voting he has polled at least 7 votes in every year since 2007. He has been the highest polling Eagle in several of those years, and has finished top 10 overall once, and top 20 on two other occasions.

IMO a person has to have a reasonable level of talent, ability and performance to achieve these results, and given the result in non-club related awards, cannot be solely attributed to club favoritism, club voting systems, or general incompetence by Worsfold and the match committee.

Priddis has many attributes that he brings to the club, not the least of which are his durability and consistency. He rarely misses a game through injury, and he performs at a consistently solid/good level each week. I believe it is these two factors that go a long way towards his ability to attract award votes on a regular basis. He does not perform at a stellar level that the absolute stars of the competition achieve, or have a mixture of outstanding games and poor games. He just is always on the field, and performing solidly. I imagine most teams have similar players.

The fact that he narrowly won this year's club championship is largely a reflection of the fact that a lot of our star players had seasons that were disrupted by injury, and thus could not receive votes, while Priddis as usual was there giving his solid contribution. I think that this is what people should be concentrating on and taking out of this years votes, rather than blaming the system, or the match committee's votes.

There are a couple of people on this board who constantly, continuously and forcefully voice their negative opinions on Priddis on this board, and that this has led many others to similarly focus on his negatives, while dismissing, ignoring and belittling his many positives.

He is not a competition super star like other award winners such as Chris Judd, Ben Cousins or even Darren Glass, but he is a consistent, hard working, team oriented good player, and I believe it is most unfair that many supporters hold him responsible for other inadequecies in the team and its performance.

I.e he's a hard working plodder playing a position that good sides fill with genuine guns.

That's been my issue with Priddis for years. I've consistently said we can't win with him in that role and we haven't and we are routinely exposed against the very good sides; he is a stats machine with limited hurt factor; but yes he's consistent and given his role he's always in the play ....

I understand his positive attributes but almost none of them increase our chances of beaten good sides when it matters and he has the rare attribute (in a gun mid) of not making his team mates better ...

You play footy in the middle and get 25+ touches a game and you'll get votes in any system. It's his "achievements" that justify leaving him there while our club goes nowhere ...

The focus on Priddis' negatives goes way beyond anything I or others drive. He was overlooked in numerous drafts despite his stellar WAFL fork for exactly the same reasons he's questioned now. He has always been able to get it, it's everything else that's been questioned since 16's ....

Name a worse footballer that's won our club F&B?
