OH WE'RE FROM LIQUORLAND,
WE'RE ALCHOHOLICS, WE'RE FROM LIQUORLAND
IN ANY WEATHER YOU WILL SEE US WITH A GIN, (oi!)
GETTING PISSED AGAIN, (oi!)
THEN WE DRIVE, BLOW POINT 05, AND LOSE OUR SPONSORSHIP
OH WE'RE FROM LIQUORLAND
WE NEVER WEAKEN TILL THE BAR IS FULLY DRY,
LIKE THE DRUNKARDS OF OLD
WE LOVE OUR BEER COLD
OH WE'RE FROM LIQUOR - YELLOW & BLEAK
OH WE'RE FROM LIQUORLAND
Rough recall of schoolyard version:

Oh, we're from Tigerland,
A toothless terror we're from Tigerland,
In any weather you will see us with a grin
Dribble on our chin
If we're behind then never mind
We'll watch the oppo win
For we're from Tigerland
We're never running when the final siren's gone
The Tigers are cold
We're slow and we're old
For we're from Tiger
Callow and Slack
We're from Tigerland.

I've always thought it was "us" since the early 70's and was surprised to see "up" on Thursday night.

My dad explained to me that the Champions were trying to send us - as in on our way (as losers), but we would keep our end up and not be beaten.

So they weren't "sending us" Champions, but the Champions were trying to "send us".

As long as they play it regularly at the end of games, we sing what we like!

I was born in the early 90s, and was taught 'Us' from young.

My own interpretation as a kid was that 'they' was the Gods/footy God's ie. The Gods were sending us champions to play for us. And we'll keep our end of the bargain up by winning games.

Then as a teenager I read that it was supposed to be Up, so that's what I've been singing since and have been singing to my toddler too.

Welp first post but as an American I have always sung it as 'us' and in context of the song..

"we're the only team old carlton knows.. with all the champions (carlton), they like to send us, we'll keep our end up" ..

to me it always sounded like it was referencing players from Carlton coming up to the team.. I'm going to assume back in the days this was written a lot of the players on your teams would of actually been from the areas your team represented.

and the last part..

"And they'll know that they've been playing.. against the famous old dark blues"

this part obviously refers to the opposing team knowing who the team they are facing is because it's a bunch of carlton boys. Not just the team but from the area of Carlton.

shrug
