Darren Burgess seems to be the gold standard when it comes to S&C within the AFL, particularly when it comes to building sides fitness

I recall him saying, or it being written about him, that the biggest gains come in his second preseason in charge

Matt Inness definitely changed our program last year with some encouraging results. Hopefully we can see even more improvement with his second full preseason in control

First year is about developing buy-in. Given the few soft tissues and general improvements the trust will be there for Inness to push harder next time round.

Agre re: Schofield. The thing going against him will be the overarching need / desire for change

This is going to be a huge factor. Club loves its optics above all else and appointing Schofield isn't going to be seen as some huge move that's going to solve all our problems. His best chance is Ken stays put and Buckley doesn't put his hand in the ring. If the teams wins a game or two and plays with some spirit then it comes between him, Hansen, Graham and the other assistant coaches then his resume and impact in the caretaker seat hopefully come to the fore.

What is happening? Last year, we were talking about trading in Travis Boak. This year, we are discussing the head coach position for Hinkley. Are we Port Adelaide fans?

I feel Schofield need a minimum of 1 win in the next 2 rounds to be in contention.
2 wins will see him perhaps become favourite.

I would also want to see some of the senior / young players publicly back him in.
Havent seen that yet which tells me he hasnt won them over yet.

Article in Fridays West saying Oscar loves playing under Schofield.

I did think it was odd for Ginbey to say he wanted to play under an experienced coach.
Wasnt sure what he meant there - did he mean experienced AFL coach? Which rules out JS.

Oscar probably felt that he had to say something positive, so i agree his comments dont mean much.

So far i havent seen JS do anything that shows me he is imaginative / innovative.
We seem to be continuing along the same vein as with Simmo apart from a couple of minor changes.

Don't think any caretaker coach could do any better actually .

What did you expect him to do thats creative?

There are only so many things you can do while still at least trying a little bit to stay competitive

Ready to be flamed by the Ken haters, but I think my ideal setup would be Hinkley signed this year as Senior Coach and then sign Hansen either this year or end of next year as Senior Assistant on a succession plan for 2027.

Hinkley could then go into Director of Coaching or GM of Football.

Or the sunset.

Also important to see if we can bring in some on field coaches like Jarryd Lyons or Boak to help educate the kids this off-season.

Someone like Hansen isn’t shifting from a Senior Assistant position to do the same job at another club

And I don’t think Hinkley is going to take on a senior coaching role to eat shit for 2-3 years then be moved on once the team is (hopefully) getting ready to contend for finals

I am sure Dom Sheed can do a better job than Boak. Sheed knows how to win premiership and Boak doesn't. On educating young players, Sheed knows how to position the young players like an old fashioned traffic police.

Just watched the presser, pretty happy with that. Love the bit about Harley. Sounds very keen on Trew.

Anyone else feel like Schoey isn't the type of coach you want to piss off?
Ask some of his old subi lads, I know one who played under him and still laughs that if he f***s something up, he still looks over his shoulder expecting a baking from Schofield🤣
