I think some may just be scarred from Rankine who was ‘set to re-sign’ for most of last season.

Maybe he is yet to speak with Dimma, but I’d imagine Sam’s mind is fairly made up by now either way. All I’ve heard from him was that one interview a few weeks ago where he said not much has happened talks wise which doesn’t fill me with confidence.

If we want to believe media, Flanders would probably leave if Dew stayed. With Dew now gone it makes sense for Flanders to see who the new coach will be and have a chat about his role. We should know within a couple of weeks post season.

For me more interesting question is, what is the acceptable offer. Do we overpay if needed thus putting pressure on cap again and limiting chasing down A grader? Or follow Rankine path. Do we pay him what we pay Miller, Anderson, Rowell? Haha. That's probably some serious money. We will be paying probably top money also to Humphrey, Andrew and others down the track.

For the sake of argument, if I am Flanders agent I could argue if Flanders would spend the same time in the middle like Rowell he would probably have better numbers and on top of that Flanders can play other roles (not a strong Rowell's trait).

BTW, call me an optimist but even if Flanders leaves, I believe we will be fine.

But yeah, I would let go Hollands and use his 400-450K on Flanders :p

Agree that we will be fine if he leaves, it just be great to have somebody who is blossoming stay.

More like he is either trying to renegotiate with whoever he has been talking to over the last 6 months or fielding new offers of which hopefully we are one.

If he does leave which seems likely, who steps in next year? Davies, Hollands, other?
If he does go, Suns will be pushing hard for a first round pick. Now if he goes to a Collingwood, that’s achievable as it’s in the teens. If he goes to a Hawks or North… not so much.

We might also bundle him with excess late picks we can’t use and try and get something better.

But I think a two year deal with us is pretty likely. Takes him to FA.

For me, Flanders is 500k, especially if he takes a short 2 year deal. He might get more elsewhere on open market though.

He might play 22 games with us next year and be a star, or his form could drop off and he’s just another Fiorini. Davies, Humphrey or some recruit could take his spot—who knows.

Last few months he has been top quality. Anderson and Rowell are more “game winning” when they are on, but love the way Flanders goes about it as more a Prestia type, maybe. And every team needs a Prestia type to get the midfield gears turning.

Big Flanders fan. But if he chooses to go, he’s shown enough to validate why he was a first round pick—so a late first is what we should be aiming for.

The AFL average is 400k in 2023 so I think he should be getting 550-600

Yeah, teen first round pick for me too.

I have little doubt clubs like Hawks would offer him more. So, 500K is a limit? Don't forget that's possibly what Hollands will be paid in his 4th year (as top picks do these days).

If his agent say pay him 650K and he stays, we will let him go? It's bloody difficult to make decisions. I bet Rowell will be in that 600-700K range min.

With Flanders end to the season I can’t see how Hardwick doesn’t keep him in the middle.

If Flanders talks with Hardwick and he confirms the above, I can’t see why he wouldn’t stay.

I reckon short term contract around 500k is fair.

If he can continue the form, then he can extend on more dollars if he earns them. Half a season of good play doesn’t equate to a super contract.

Rowell is a “name” player. Commentators, media, opposition fans etc. know him. He gets some endorsements and advertising.

That is worth extra money, I guess: even if output is similar.

🤞he’s a ripper and we won’t get value for him if he does go
In the past value and our trades are like chalk and cheese. I really hope we have passed the sh it show.. Side note. The chance of Martin coming in scares the crap out of me. Not sure the powers can be trusted not to stuff it up.

Could you look at it like a Hodge to Brisbane situation? Hodge's best years were clearly at Hawthorn but I don't think anyone would deny he had a big influence on their playing group in the two years he was there and they looked like they played more confidently/with belief with him in the line up. Dusty could have a similar influence on our playing group even though he's not 2017 Dusty.
Unfortunately I don't think there is anyone left at Richmond like that. A part of the reason why the dynasty is over.

Shane Edwards would have been the perfect fit but it's a couple of years too late. Dusty is not a leader and not even a vocal presence, Craig Cameron has all but said verbatim the locker room is quiet enough as it is and there is no room for any more shrinking violets. The only player I think might come through would be Marlion Pickett. He would probably appreciate some space from the Vic media circus but he was also very high on the Suns wishlist before he got snapped up by Richmond. He probably wouldn't play every game but new coaches sometimes only bring players over to help preach their gospel and expedite the playing list buy-in

Anyone heard anything about when Dimma will be announced? It needs to be soon if we are any chance of retaining Flanders. I know the media have said as early as Monday but if that was the cases press conference would of been announced
Monday or Tuesday makes sense to me. Barrett seemed to think they'll do it at the Burleigh Pavillion because they want that scenic backdrop. Anyone connected closely enough with the Burleigh Pav to know if they have a massive booking at some point this week?

Surely Barrett couldn’t be wrong could he 😂

I would rather wait until the Mon/Tue after Round 24 to announce it but understand if they want to announce it this week. That is from the POV to announce it once our 2023 season has finished.

Sooner the better. We need to get moving with contract talks and convincing guys like Flanders to stay.

Think this means we will see an early week announcement. Looks like the big man ripped a fat cone before heading to the airport too. What a god.

The rumour was that an announcement was coming tomorrow morning and we now have photographic evidence of Dimma at Melbourne Airport tonight...

Fully expecting a press conference tomorrow morning. A new era has arrived on the GC. Buckle up ladies and gentlemen. It's going to be a wild ride!
