Collingwood 2016 Pre-Season Discussion

I'll be honest - I never wanted Bucks to take over. Not saying I wanted MM to stay but I has some real concerns over the "messiah" persona/stigma that would come with the position. I had exactly the same thoughts with Voss and Hird and look how that turned out. Was worried that they would be all too bullish in trying to prove themselves more than developing a squad.

Buckley hasn't done anywhere near the damage the other two have which we can be thankful for. That being said we are all results orientated and there's only so long people will tolerate mediocrity but my issue is how do you move someone on without upsetting the natives when you have a club legend in that position.

Interesting year or 2 coming up.

The one thing I've learned about Buckley is that he coaches for Collingwood not himself and if/ when he leaves we won't be left in a hole from a list perspective.

What's your definition of "go to shit"?

5-17 in the second halves of 2014-2015...

Agree - but leaders still need to produce results. No point having all the persona in the world if your ship still sinks and you all have a smile on your face.

I don't want to turn this into the Bucks thread and maybe I should move it over there, but my stance is that I love the guy but need to see improvement. I'm not worried about seeing him moved on if need be, but the masses that may ridicule or dislike him should he go no further than where we are right now will taint he's better days at the club.

Slowly I can see the gracious in defeat face he wears slowly morphing into a "it's not me it's the team" stigma placed on him by supporters.

I've still got faith don't get me wrong, but I agree we are approaching D-Day
Yes every coach has time frames.
My only difference here, is instinct tells me he has the makings of premiership coach.
I like longer term coaches, stability etc.
But if they no good, well....
I think in general our club was fortunate having
Jock McHale
Phonse Kyne
Bob Rose
Tom Hafey
Leigh Matthews
Mick Malthouse
And now Nathan,
All longer term, overall. All seemed in charge.

Conversely I was never much of a fan of Tony Shaw as coach, supported him yes, as I do whoever is coach.
But Tony from day one came across as a try hard. Just never saw he would succeed as a coach. Fine player, captain and all.

Do you think we recruited Treloar solely to be available to play the 1st game of the year against Sydney?
Are you Gen Y?
Well That's fantastic looking at it more long term. I'm not concerned about round 1, I'm concerned this is clearly not a "minor surgery" that we were all told about before the trade that Adam had.

Given the delecity of the groin and how it can impact performance, this is very concerning

Love this photo from Fox Sports' article this morning.

Very bullish about Maynard's future!

No pre season means he will struggle to be at his best when he does return. Very sad news.

I think we knew that when we Traded for him. That we knew he had to have Major Hip Surgery and would miss most of the Pre-Season.

Hopefully Treloar be Fit and Firing at 100% by Mid-Season

Just stop worrying . No point and it is going to be long season full of ups and downs.
We couldn't even play out the last 2 years. So what that a quality player is not ready from day 1? Let him come in the team later, we can give others time to recover and still not fall away.
Things can only get better. Only concern might be that we lose games that we should have won with him in the team, well we see about that when it happens.

He's not worrying. He's stirring the pot with his bullshit doom and gloom rhetoric and people are getting sucked in. A couple of weeks ago he said he had 'mail' about Aish and Treloar's injuries and how they were much worse than expected and now Aish is back in full training.

Treloar hasn't even been ruled out for round 1 yet Balme has apparently written him off. Can't believe anyone takes that guy seriously.

Even Balmey seems to have written off Treloar for round 1. The Davoren curse strikes again.

Collingwood recruits Jeremy Howe and Adam Treloar on track for Round 1 debuts for Magpies

“I would not have thought either of them were definites at this stage because it is very early to be making predictions, but I think they are both a reasonable chance (to play Round 1),” Balme said.

Balme said Treloar had been doing “a hell of a lot of work” despite being restricted from main training.

“He had some problems with some OP (osteitis pubis) last season, so we have just been careful to make sure he doesn’t hurt himself again,” Balme said.

“But you can see he is working extremely hard and he is even kicking the footy.

“So, it’s early to be saying if he will play or not, but I will be very surprised if he doesn’t play Round 1.”
