Collingwood and Richmond - who has the greater supporter base

Just a reminder: Terms like “Minnowmond”, “Shrinkingwood”, “Dwindlewood” and the like belong on the bay, not the main board. Same goes for referring to either team as a minnow, when clearly neither fits that description.

Very pro collingwood crowd tonight probably 55-60,000 were Collingwood. No one draws crowds like collingwood when we are up and about and that includes Richmond, Essendon and Carlton.

Also collingwood are closing in on Richmond in memberships. By round 7 collingwood will overtake Richmond I have no doubt.

Lol, more like 50 to 35 due to being your home game but geez you love to inflate numbers, well nothing new on that front especially seeing your posts firsthand on the attendance thread. Might as well say you had 85,240 from the crowd of 85,241

Richmond living rent-free.

Was sold out

MCC and reserved seat ticket holders didn't show up to crack the 90k

Pretty ridiculous how a game can sell out and have 16k spare seats
It’s virtually impossible for home and away games to draw 90,000+ nowadays. This is because so many of the seats are now designated Club reserved seats tied to memberships. As memberships have grown, so have season reserved seats. For many reasons, people can’t go every week and so these seats, ‘sold’ remain empty matchday.

As an example, I have two reserved seats on level 2 at Marvel and the MCG for all Essendon home games. Yet, I only went to one game (1/11) last year, and didn’t go to Marvel last week because I’m residing in QLD atm. So, my seats are empty every week. This is the reason why in Essendon’s case, 45,000 is the capacity crowd at Marvrl, and about 89-90,000 is the capacity of the MCG for an Essendon home game.

Collingwood probably have nearly 20,000 members with a reserved seat. Even on a fine night, at best only about 75% of these seats are utilised for any home game. Even blockbusters. That means ~5,000+ Collingwood seats would’ve been empty last night. Then there’s unused corporate suites not fully at capacity, MCC seats etc. and they don’t sell the 5,000 standing room for home & away games either. That’s where the 10,000+ capacity gets easily eaten away for the best of home and away matches, like last night.

Collingwood had 60,000 last week against port. There was a similar Collingwood turnout tonight.

There was no way 35,000 Richmond fans more like 25,000. We all know Richmond fans don’t like going to the footy when it’s raining lol

In the 2019 PF against GWS the crowd was 77,000 on a rainy night, and that's because Collingwood supporters like going to the footy when it's raining correct?

Richmond have bigger membership numbers but Collingwood has a bigger core that go week in week out. IMO. Both are feral though.

Reserved seating, or at least at the level they do it these days, is just stupid money making. Most member seating is reserved these days on the big games, but when it's a rainy game like last night, so many seats are vacant. I have been to Rich v interstate team games at the MCG where all sections are of 'reserved seating', but no one is sitting there because there is only 45 k at the game. It's pretty stupid.

Yes, 60K V Port but there were port fans there too as well as neutrals, it was heavily promoted in SA to make the trip, wear your prison bars etc and it was the only game at the G. Funny thing is most people on social media saying that your fans "as evident at the city end with so many empty seats" decided not to roll up on top of MCC
As I said don't inflate your numbers.

Collingwood supporters are awesome
Richmond too

A successful Carlton and Essendon would make the como something else.

Agree, Carlton took that step in 2022 for crowds after being in the wilderness, All we need now is for Essendon to hit its straps, meaning being a contender. Looking forward to when the big 4 Vic clubs are all contending at the same time, crowds would be off the charts in these blockbuster games.

Omg yawn. Is this thread still going?

All I can see is salty Richmond fans clinging to the fast fading dynasty, shouting 'one more year'.

Give it up guys, it's time to start the rebuild and let the true kings of the AFL shine (Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon in case you're wondering)

There would have been max 1,000 port fans last week. And last night Collingwood outnumbered Richmond 2 to 1

Agree 100%. Apart from m1-m6 at the punt road!! There was not many Richmond fans. I would say 25,000 Richmond fans at most
Collingwood fans stay away when it's Richmond's home game.

And we are still bathing in the 3 flags.

Collingwood fans have belief this year and that is why they are turning up.

It has been 13 years between drinks and Tiger McRae is making Collingwood fans believe again.

Well done to Fly and Leppa.

Terrible game first half but at least we showed some signs.

Collingwood playing alot like our team back when we had the hunger.

When teams challenge them, they lift the pressure up and pile on a few extra goals, exactly what we used to do.

I think Richmond played the game out to the last siren, kicked the last goal so not all hopeless.

Plenty to work on.

Our first half was atrocious.

Fumbles,not hitting targets.

Our defense held up quite well I thought and kept us in the game.

Only R3 ,shedloads of footy to go.

Doggies no doubt will run their little leggies off now Richmond has come up on the fixture.

Lol, but here you are lmfaooooo
Salty why? It's RD 3 hombre, lets's see come finals where your at. You'll do what you always do and that's CHOKE. This you cant deny, 14 GFs in the last 60 years for 2 flags :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

True Kings of the AFL, 2 flags in 60 years, tigers have won 8 in that time, 2nd most after the hawks. The blues and bombers have won many flags.

No doubt the Tiger fans have launched onto the bandwagon the last six years, and fair enough too, but just like every team that has its ups and downs, the Tiger fans will realise that their team is now cooked and the fans will go back into hibernation till their time comes again.

By 2026 the Tigers will have less members than probably four or five Vic clubs.

That sums it up.
Tiger ‘supporters’ trying to sum up the crowd by the noise off the TV.
That’s the best that can do because they weren’t there.
Tiger ‘supporters’ were at home watching.
Us Pies (60,000 of us) turned up.

Yeah, I was there champ and there weren't 60K of you. Couldve hit 90K if your city end members decided to roll up.
Ohh so when you hear collingwood late in the last when you know you're going to win, is that just not true the way it comes across the TV because games that I've seen like pies v cats it sounded pretty loud to me and it echoed but in your own words that is simply not true what comes across the TV.
Do you realise how absurd you sound, of course, there is a general idea of how the noise levels are at a game.

i see you no GIF by Shalita Grant
