It truly is amazing how much of a bandwagon club Hawthorn is. How many members did they have in '04 or '05? Seriously, they are now aiming for 50K after getting 40K in '08. It's just....wow.

I think you will find that Hawthorn will have the biggest junior membership in 09 due to the Buddy factor! there are so many young kids under the age of 10 that are following Hawthorn due to buddy!

For the last decade or so, Hawthorn have had fairly healthy membership numbers. I think it was the year after the merger threat that they more than doubled their membership to over 27,000 and actually led the Victorian clubs. That was when the AFL were saying clubs needed 20,000 members to be able to survive. In 2003 and 2004 their membership figures were higher than their average attendances. They went from 31k to 41k in 2008, which was a massive increase, and I guess it's not unreasonable for them to hope for a similar jump in 2009, considering their 2008 form.

Are we seriously aiming for 50k? We want a 20% increase in 1 year where we weren't overly successful? Ok...

Very much doubt we'll be #1 this year, as previously mentioned, Hawthorn are on track for a massive figure and have a good chance of finishing #1.

Ive got a feeling Hawthorn might overtake us next year

It all depends on how we start the season, if we have a phenomenal start then we could easily have 45K+, but my guess is 43K-45K

Apparently (according to Google) there are about 50,000 people in Bundaberg.....

that was just a little peice of trivia, I hope you will all be able to sleep better tonight. Thank you :) :p

Don't fret too much. If Hawthorn bust 50k, just wait until they start slipping in 5 years time and watch the wheels fall off the Hawthorn bandwagon.

Fairweather today isn't it?

Im not sure whether or not to buy an interstate as I won't get down to Melbourne at all. So, in effect the only thing it guarntee's me is a seat in Sydney. Not really worth getting.

what do u mean not worth getting?
Interstate memberships r very cheap, get guaranteed seat to the match in ur state and u r helping out the club.
There is no reason to not buy a membership ;)

Meh - they may be cheap. But I couldn't use it for the 5 Games in Melbourne. So I would be saving money.

But for the sake of the club I guess so.

I hope to move to Melbourne in 2010 anyway.

I'm not interstate but it's still a 3-4 hour drive to get to Melbourne from here in Warrnambool. But even if we don't make the trip many times in 2009, at least I get the satisfaction knowing I'm supporting the club I love.

Agree totally. I used to go to every match (except for interstate) but the last few years i've been OS & work has not allowed that committment.

However, I have never let my membership slide.

Support the club!

Decided I would just purchased a Legend's membership as I was bored - also an interstate. Waste of my money but atleast it's going somewhere I love.

Ahh, Across the Waves.

I'm not getting my interstate memebership this year as I'll be away when we play the Lions. I'll still get a membership of some sort to support the club.

The little 3 gamer sounds good. I will definitely be in Melbourne in round 1, so get some use of the memebrship.

That's pretty much why I don't get an interstate membership..... I doubt I'd get to Melbourne next year (unfortunately), so it will only get me a seat at the Gabba.
So... it's just as easy to get tickets in the week or 2 before the game.
Plus nothing else in the package really appeals to me.... *shrugs*

Ahh, Across the Waves.

.

Oh, so you know Across the Waves.....?

Do go on..... :p
