It has been highlighted in the print media already, but nothing as such has been mentioned on BF.

Collingwood albeit a decent percentage and Ave winning margin, have clearly been over rated this year.

Wins over
Fremantle (14th currently) - M.C.G - in Rd1
Richmond (11th) - M.C.G - in Rd 3
Essendon (13th) -M.C.G - in Rd 6
St. Kilda (10th) - T.D - in Rd 8
Geelong (1st) - M.C.G - Rd 9
West. Coast (15th) - M.C.G - Rd 10
Melbourne (16th) - M.C.G - Rd 11
shows no real dominance other than the win against 1 top 8 in a lack luster Geelong (Rd 9)

Losses to
Brisbane - (7th) - Gabba - in Rd 2
Carlton - (8th) - M.C.G - in Rd 4
North Melbourne - (9th) - M.C.G - in Rd 5
Hawthorn - (2nd) - M.C.G - in Rd 7
Carlton - (8th) - M.C.G - in Rd 12

Therefore in 8 games against top 10 sides (teams that genuinely have a chance the make the finals) currently Collingwood has won just 2 games.

Hardly inspiring stuff that.

With games against
Western Bulldogs (3rd) Rd 13 @ T.D
Sydney - (4th) Rd 14 @ ANZ
Adelaide - (5th) Rd 15 @ M.C.G
Kangaroos - (9th) Rd 16 @ M.C.G
Essendon - (13th) Rd 17 @ M.C.G
Hawthorn - (2nd) Rd 18 @ M.C.G
St. Kilda - (10th) Rd 19 @ M.C.G
Port Adelaide - (12th) Rd 20 @ M.C.G
Sydney - (4th) Rd 21 @ T.D
Fremantle - (14th) Rd 22 @ Subiaco

i can only see myself confidently tipping them in 1 games/ Essendon and possibly Port Adelaide, only because its played here at the G.

Who knows if Collingwood continue to play show pony footy (Didak, Medhurst, Davis & Thomas) dont get consistent performances from Cloke and a fit Pendlebury, could it be that Collingwood miss the finals....????

I dont think they will miss the finals, but so far this year, i dont believe their year has been what some would call a PASS year thus far.

Thoughts

Always has it’s tyres over pumped by the media to sell newspapers and so their gullible fans will watch the tv.

It is a shame really as Collingwood can never seem to crawl it’s way out of mediocrity.

Even when it is successful, it achieves on the back of a mediocre list who exhibit exceptional GRUNT.

Unfortunately that GRUNT, is missing at the moment.

Collingwood will awlays be hyped up from the media - i cant understand why everyone always listens though. they have a pretty good list - but some massively overrated players touted as superstars just because they play for the Pies, will do well but cant see them actually winning the thing

Coming from a bloke who is too scared to say who he barracks for. The one thing about Collingwood supporters is we always stick by our team whether they are on the top or bottom of the ladder. Sure some might moan and groan but we are always there. Win loose or draw. The only reason we are mediocre over the last few years is because we never tank and always give 100% in every game we play. I will book mark this thread for 12 months time so I can laugh at you!!!!!

No, Collingwood being over rated has never been mentioned before on BF. I never hear it every week on here. You truly are a visonary and an inspiration to us all. Gees, the Carlton and unlisted fans seem to be out in force nowadays.

I've always said we are good without being great, but admittedly I did get a bit carried away after the Geelong win.

The Dogs match on Sunday will be the true indication of where we stand imo.

Although I do agree that they pumped up quite a bit, and their form hasn't been great, they are a fairly handy side with injuries. To get on here and say that is a ballsy move! It might be a good time to go to the dole queue at this time. You will have 1000's of people leaving to post in response to your thread!

I still think they are a genuine premiership contender. Their biggest issues are the average form of Cloke, the lack of supporting KPPs for Cloke and a midfield that can go missing.

Undoubtedly, their strength are their small forwards, Davis, Didak, Medhurst and Thomas. But too often when their midfield goes missing, these players are forced up the ground and whilst that helps immensely, it takes away plenty of goal scoring power. We saw this particularly during the Collingwood vs Carlton game. Interestingly, I don't recall them being pushed up the ground when the game was on the line and their midfield were being spanked, which I believe was a mistake.

Another major issue is Josh Fraser. He simply isn't doing enough. When in the ruck he is being slaughtered. Chris Bryan is a limited footballer but has looked far better in the ruck lately. When Fraser is forward he doesn't have a presence or impact. This is vital whist Rocca is out and it shows.

Umm if you continued to read my post (probably the highest of difficulty for you) it goes on to mention that you have only beaten 2 top 8 sides. Which was my reasoning for this thread. Hence as stated, something that hasn't been identified on BF just yet.

BTW, consider changing your signature. Shows your real intelligence in football intellect :thumbsu:

Why would they care where they finish? With all victorian sides now ruling the competition they'll get all their games at the MCG anyway. Oh yeah, did I mention they get the best draw every year...
All the media hype gets in the players heads and certain members of the side (Thomas and Didak esp) undo any good work they do with arrogant stupidity.

But yes, definately overrated.

Behind at least 4 sides in '08 = No premeirship chance. I like it! :D

I read your whole post and agreed parts of it. If you read my post properly you would have seen the only part that I disagreed with was the part that I directly quoted. Collingwood are over rated is always mentioned in one way or another. E.g. Thomas is a girl and a completely soft showpony with gay hair or the Pies are frontrunners or Carlton own Collingwood.

Collingwood definately over rated!!!
Mind you they do perform well against geelong and the bulldogs but I mean every team has a few sides they usually beat!
I think the Hawthorn game and the Carlton game show that teams can run all over collingwood with good coaching!

Collingwood will awlays be hyped up from the media - i cant understand why everyone always listens though. they have a pretty good list - but some massively overrated players touted as superstars just because they play for the Pies, will do well but cant see them actually winning the thing

Collingwood have no players on their team that are 'touted as superstars'. In fact, the media often refers to them as a good team without any standout players.

Could you tell me who in the media referred to a Collingwood player as a superstar? And which player was it? Because I think you're just making stuff up.

In the past two years we have won big games against good teams and lost games to teams we were expected to beat.

This is somewhat true again this year.

If we can finish in the top 6 again we can be a threat like last year. If not, we are truly making up the numbers.

We have a great interstate record and do lift for big teams. 2 of our losses were 50/50 games (Brisbane and North) where umpiring decisions and bounces could have handed us an extra 8 points. Alas they didn't, but this year we have handed out 3 big thumping whereas last year we weren't able to beat anybody by over 40 points all year.

Will go one of two directions. When we had Hawks, Saints, Cats and West Coast everybody said it was a big month. We got 3 out of 4 there. We were deflated against both Melbourne and Carlton, and now have a second big month ahead of us.

Those who say Malthouse is coaching poorly are fools. He is the best coach in the league and is far more valuable than any individual player IMO.

Bring it on.

Interesting point of view, here are some more useless facts created due to a stupid draw.

Only side in the 8 that Carlton has beaten is Collingwood
Only sides in the 8 that Brisbane has beaten are Carlton and Collingwood
Only team in the 8 that Adelaide has beaten is Carlton
Only team in the 8 that Sydney has beaten is Brisbane

On the flip side, the Dogs have beaten 4 sides currently in the 8, even Geelong have only beaten 2 sides that are in the 8 and they got belted by the 'overrated' Collingwood.

What does all this tell us? Sweet ____ all. The only decent measure with a stupid draw like this is the ladder and percentage. On that basis, most teams are in the position they probably should be apart from maybe Freo and Port who probably should have won a couple more.

I agree, they are still a good side but people are tipping them for top 4-5, cant see that happening, i don't see how they dominate Geelong and then lose to Carlton.

Malthouse conceded after the game that Carlton already had a better playing list than Collingwood. He said that he thought the two teams were pretty even across the board, but Collingwood didn't possess the dynamic midfield or the superstar full forward that Carlton did

So while Carlton's list is better on paper, and as they showed on Sunday, on the field too, Collingwood's biggest concern is its dysfunctional forward line. Too heavy a reliance on small forwards Didak, Medhurst & Davis to kick goals and Travis Cloke is never going to be much more than a 2-3 goal per game full forward. As big a useless hairy-back as Anthony Rocca is, he at least creates a contest and helps to bring the smaller forwards into the game.

Collingwood are a potential top 6 side, but their list has gaping holes. They're not going to push for a premiership anytime soon.

Same way we belt Sydney on an annual basis then drop games in consecutive years to the wooden spooners when we make the finals.

Same way we got done by 15 goals by Brisbane last year and then went onto a Prelim while they finished 11th.

THATS FOOTY

We always lift for the good sides but drop our stack for the shit sides (carlton).

Last sunday we had loads of players underdone and was really an insult to carlton playing them.

Reid (had not played a game for 4 weeks :))
Davis (Carried an ankle from the Melbourne game)
Pendles (had tight hammys all game and hardly played in the middle)
Fraser (hurt his knee in the state game and cannot even JUMP, let alone the broken nose haha)
Swan was underdone and didnt train much last week.
Johson tweaked his hammy the week before.

6 out of 22, with 3-4 of those that would not have played if we where playing the hawks, geelong types as we would be worried about a blow out.

so all in all we are still going ok.

then you need to consider why we are rated TOP 4 by some.

Goldsack has OP and got smashed against brissy, broke his nose and tweaked his knee, has now just stared playing for our VFL side, was a massive part of our team last year.

Rocca, unpridicable who gave scarlett a bath in our win against the catters earlier this year. We are missing him up forward without a doubt.

Rusling is the forgotten hero from last years finals seriers, dominated the swans games, and is out spear head leading FF, we are really missing the bloke this year.

But thanks for your concern Marc Shmurf 3, we should be right for september, jeez i hope we dont have to play carlton

Not sure if they are, I think if they do make the finals they would consider themselves against any opposition. Yes, they have lost to all of the better teams bar one, but all that matters is that you win enough games to get in the top 8, and Collingwood are nearly there already. So I don't believe they are over-rated, they simply have had a very easy draw and will play out of their skin in the finals series.
