Collingwood player saying no to a paycut

We are going to offer him a "fair" contract based on what he is worth.

He is no superstar, so if the GC offer him 600-700K a year, Trav will either have to take a pay cut or he will be getting a tan next season.

Old news, good old hutchy, dragging up old news during a slow week.

Its got to be cloke. If memory serves correct swanny is contracted till the end of 2011, wouldnt think theyd start talks now

Look at the end of the day if its Trav and if he wants to go, to be completely honest, theres the door mate, close it on your way out

Hasnt improved in 3 years at the club and as much as i like the guy, as much as i think hes important to our team and our structure, if you dont want to be a team player and if you dont want to wear that black and white jumper then we dont need you.

I think he'll stay, he'll play out the season and he'll sign but if he doesnt i will be disappointed but there are worse things in the world

The majority of our players would take a pay cut to try and keep this team together in order to win 1 or more premierships.

As soon as I heard one had said no to a pay cut, I instantly thought of Travis even before they mentioned the player was a B & F winner.

Just seems like a 'me, me, me' kind of person and from all reports regarding his brothers and father, it wouldn't be far off the mark!

Should not have included him in the side this week. If we come off with a win (which we should) Cloke will realise that we don't need him to win a premiership and if he doesn't take a paycut or negotiate with Collingwood then he may not be a premiership player.

If he waits till after the finals it could backfire on him. His goal kicking over the last 2 years is not good. I'd also like to see some strong contested marks. I'd put in a tight bonus system based on specific performance. Leon need this too.

He got suspended for a cheap shot, which was extremely selfish & ill disciplined.
Now, when the side is firing, he is sulkng for more/same money.

It's all about Travis. What a selfish person.

Don't blame Travis myself. His Dad is the problem - the Damir Dokic of the AFL - and if Travis was managed by a proper management company, he would be receiving much better advice. Take a 3 year contract for $1.2M and be done with it young man. And cut the ties was papa bear.

Word from Travis is that he adores the club and he does not want to engage in any "contract talks" until the completion of our club's season. These words were mentioned in an interview two weeks ago.

For those that haven't seen the Footy Show yet, basically what Hutchy is saying is that Cloke has been offered a smaller base contract, but with a possibility to earn more as the "new contract" would be performance based.

Surely, if you believe in your own ability, you would take the smaller base contract believing that you as a player could earn more if you perform, as long as there was an injury clause in the contract.

Seems a little strange that you would break off negotiations just because the club has performed it's due diligence in offering an under performing player an incentive based contract.

Basically though, at least we won't have to worry about this till after the finals.

And yes, David Cloke is a huge "problem" in this case.

Some of you are forgetting Cloke's impact on games against Essendon in the first half and Freo at Subiaco for three quarters. He was remarkably good in our previous encounter against the Blues as well. So think again, crew!

Nicely put.

Pretty much shows the state of Trav's competitiveness or self-esteem. Hasn't been performing too bad this year, a lot better than last year.

If we don't contract him are we able to trade him off?

If so, how much do you think we can get from him?

No one is doubting his talent.
I just don't want a player who is only thinking about money.
Especially a forward who can't kick goals!

you've pointed out 2 games, one of which was against a bottom 4 side.

i think this year he has been OK. he's presented well, and his kicking isnt usually quite as wayward as it was prior to this year.

that said, last year he was bad. he has to make up for that. he's on the way to doing that but by no means is he there yet.

Well I'm not forgetting that he got suspended for a selfish act right before our game against St Kilda, which was then our biggest game of the year.

And we played quite well, actually very well.

Everyone listened when told 4 months ago he might be leaving, what are you going on about?

He won't leave anyway, I'd pretty readily put my left testicle on the line for that call. Nothing wrong with negotiating for a bit more coin, especially when I'm sure the GC's offer would probably be double the offer on the table from Collingwood.

Nobody on this board would accept being (in their mind) underpaid in their career, not sure why we expect footballers to be any different.

I'll throw in my right testicle to boot.

We're getting a bit hysterical, don't you think?

It's freakin Hutchy who's breaking the news. Since when have we paid attention to anything the balding version of Caroline Wilson has to say?

Cloke ain't going anywhere.

Trav is out of contract, so he could "just walk" and take his chances in eithr draft, or he could request a trade before the drafts.

Or he could become the one uncontracted player the GC take, and we would, under the revised compensation system, receive a first round draft pick that we could use over a 3 year period at any time.

The "ball" is basically in Trav's court now, Collingwood can't afford to offer him too much, as we still have several more players to re-sign, and we also have to consider our future possible problems with the salary cap.

It's up to Cloke now, if he wants to stay, he will have to settle for basically what Collingwood consider's "fair", because I can't see Collingwood budging too much on it's current rumoured offer.

If I was a betting man (oops, I am) I would place my money on Trav staying, and having his best season ever in 2011 as he seeks to make more money then he ever has off an incentive based contract.

Watch cloke sign

He was interviewed last week saying he wants to stay, doesn't want to be talking contracts until after finals. Oh and no gc offer

So yeah just watch him sign on

It is all part of the negotiating process. We try to get him for the cheapest price and his managment tries to get more money for him.

In all honesty he isn't worth 450k a year, and I wouldn't be surprised if they accept 400 + incentives for 2 years.

But from what i've heard of Cloke, he loves the club and won't be going anywhere

Saying your 196cm main forward isn't worth a half million is just blind.

The salary cap is there for a reason and underpaying players to stay under the cap isn't the right thing to do.

Why should Swan get more money than Cloke??

Can he take a pack mark and kick a goal from 50m?? No??? Why not??

Key forwards are worth big bucks. That's the simple fact of the game.

boys i cant buy this "his father is a problem" talk

hes a big boy, if he wants to play footy for collingwood then he'll put pen to paper at the end of the season nomatter what anyone says about the size of the contract

Personally i'd rather it be done and dusted now. Not that it'll happen but i'd rather not have articles on him potentially leaving the club heading into finals ala Gary Ablett.

But seeing as its not going to happen just yet, he is still best 22, he will play out the season and the finals and (touch wood) when he has his premiership medal he can sign and be satisfied with what we offer him
